I do not believe you are 100% correct... Per Fred from Neutrik in Charlotte, the CAT6 EtherCON jacks are NOT compatible with their CAT5 EtherCON plugs (what they call cable carriers) that Best-Tronics uses on their FAS11 EtherCON cable. The jacks and plugs have to be in the same series to work...

Be careful with what jack you go with. If you go with the one you have pictured here, that's a CAT6 EtherCON and requires a CAT6 plug on the end your plugging into it. I've spoke at length with Neutrik directly to find a CAT5 alternative to this one (NE8FDP - Neutrik) which is made for a 4 mm...

Those work just fine on a panel that is 3/16" thick, but my board is 3/4" thick. I'll probably have to drill a large hole than necessary and then mount this feed-thru jack to a panel that I would then screw into the wood from the outside. I have two of these jacks by the way that I was planning...

I don't have my ethercon mounted yet as I need to order a new jack before drilling the hole. I just have my ethercon cable plugged into the back of the MFC and ran out the bottom next to my red Mission, temporarily.

No pictures were taken during the Tolex application step as it's a VERY messy job and you have to work quickly before the glue keeps you from adjusting the Tolex. As you can see on the side of the board here, there is glue residue. This comes off really easy with a damp rag after it fully...

If you're looking for a completely different rig from your Axe, check out what the Carvin V3 line has to offer. The V3MC is a small 50W 1x12 combo that sounds great! I have the 100W head version and love it. They make great gear.

If you were to hook it up this way, wouldn't it defeat the purpose of having two separate Axe feeds? Modifying your own CLR monitor level while not affecting the FOH level is the goal I would guess.

With it pulled all the way to the front of the rack? Maybe a little, but with the amount of SPLs coming out of that thing, I doubt it would be a clear audible difference. Besides, I probably wouldn't do this (rack my CLR), it was just an interesting coincidence that it fit perfect.

That's what I was thinking! It would work great having 5U left at the top to rack the Axe Fx, a power conditioner, wireless, drawer, etc! Even better would be to get something like this: OSP 16 Space 16U 19" Shock Mount Amp Rack Case w/Casters. ..and then find a way to keep the CLR from moving...

Jul, if you have the Mark II units, go with a Ethercon cable from Best-Tronics. You can even get it custom cut to the length of your liking. I just got one at 30', which is plenty for most of my gigs around here. It's a great high quality cable that is beefy, yet lays flat. Some computer CAT5...

I wouldn't cover the vents with tape. They're there for a reason IMO. If Cliff thought that it didn't need vented, then he wouldn't have put the vents on the side.

Dedicated tuner switch is something I would recommend. Check out the Mission TT here: Mission TT | missionengineering.commissionengineering.com I've got one that I used for multiple switching duties. It's so simple and small enough for most boards.

Assembling Eminence Beta 12CX

can an axe fx ii into a mackie hd 1221 pull off a local gig by itself?

Tosin Abasi also used (or still does) use the Mackie HD in his backline I believe. I'd keep the wedge at a manageable volume when your Axe is set at 12 o'clock, then adjust on the front of the Axe from there.

I would NOT recommend the canned air for cleaning or dusting the Axe of MFC. Although both are sealed well in their respective chassis, there are still nooks and crannies where dust invades and gets to the inside. The canned air only coaxes the dust get into those places. The best option is to...

Turn AXE-FXII ON/OFF using a Power Conditioner.

The AC120S is great. And yes bright red voltage meter on front as well! I like the fact that I can pick and choose what I want to turn on. The AC120S is currently in my studio rack powering my Big Knob, active monitors and whatever else I have that needs power on my desk. I love it!

Post Your Rig!

What do you keep in your 2U rack drawer? I currently have one in my 6U SKB rolling rack along with my II and a 1U Monster Power, but that drawer even empty weighs 15 lbs! I load it with cables and it's well over 25 lbs. Just curious what other people are using their rack drawers for.

Another viable power amp option? Vivid Amp VR2700

Are you comparing it to the XT1000? For us in the States, today, the XT1000 would be around $731 with no other fees or freight charges, so yes Matrix is still a bit cheaper, but he's also an upstart company it looks like. The XT1000 is only 500W per channel, where as the Vivid is 700W per channel.

what if local venues have bad quality monitoring? buy a cab?

For those of you using in-ears, do you have a full band monitor mix going to them? I would think if it was just my signal from my Axe, that'd be the only thing I would hear and not the rest of the band. I like a "more me" mix with the others pulled in, but not an "all me" mix

Tosin Abasi's 2011 rig gets the Guitar Geek treatment

I did the same thing back in the day, iaresee! I'm sure I have a stack of my own geeked rigs somewhere as well. Probably my old Win 98 system! Ha! Now we all just need Adam to geek a CLR and some Matrix amps and that'd cover 75% of the Axe owners' geeked rigs out there!

digital wireless: akg dms 70 dr instrument

I've never had experience with the AKG wireless units, but have had great experiences with the Sennheiser EW models as well as the Carvin UX1000 model (Carvin.com : UX1000-BP UHF WIRELESS SYSTEM). Both have great range and both rackmount-able to get the antennas out front.

Has anyone played AxeFXII through the new Mackie DLM 12?

I've been thinking about the same thing. Without ever seeing, or hearing, one in person it's hard to tell. I like the cube shape of it to put a rack on tap. Now as long as it sounds good.
