Hanging with Periphery tonight in Chicago

AES vs S/PDIF vs USB vs XLR

Wondering if there has been any breakthroughs in testing AES vs S/PDIF vs USB from the participants of this thread? I've been following it as I'm in the market for a new interface to go between my AFII and ProTools. Not sure if I should just settle on USB if the consenus is that's the best way...

Show us your MFC setups! (post your pics)

I do not believe you are 100% correct... Per Fred from Neutrik in Charlotte, the CAT6 EtherCON jacks are NOT compatible with their CAT5 EtherCON plugs (what they call cable carriers) that Best-Tronics uses on their FAS11 EtherCON cable. The jacks and plugs have to be in the same series to work...

STOMPLABEL Dark Black Style Out now !

Very nice! I like how sleek they are. I may need to get these as a change up to your already awesome Stompbox - Basic Set. +1 on a "blackie" glow-in-the-dark set. I'd buy those in a heartbeat!
  10. woodnwire85

Show us your MFC setups! (post your pics)

Be careful with what jack you go with. If you go with the one you have pictured here, that's a CAT6 EtherCON and requires a CAT6 plug on the end your plugging into it. I've spoke at length with Neutrik directly to find a CAT5 alternative to this one (NE8FDP - Neutrik) which is made for a 4 mm...

Custom pedalboard for MFC and Mission pedals

Those work just fine on a panel that is 3/16" thick, but my board is 3/4" thick. I'll probably have to drill a large hole than necessary and then mount this feed-thru jack to a panel that I would then screw into the wood from the outside. I have two of these jacks by the way that I was planning...

Custom pedalboard for MFC and Mission pedals

I've been speaking directly with Fred from Neutrik and he assured me the CAT6 EtherCON jack (NE8FDY-C6 - Neutrik) is not compatible with the CAT5 EtherCON plugs (NE8MC-B - Neutrik), as on the Best-Tronics EtherCON cable I have (Best-Tronics Mfg., Inc.: FAS11-XX) Does yours work, prometh?

Custom pedalboard for MFC and Mission pedals

I don't have the case in my possession yet, but will certainly weigh all the different options with it all together. Also, as a side note, I made a list of changes I plan to make for my second board. Two of those changes will be finger joints (where necessary) not screws, and using 1/2"...

Custom pedalboard for MFC and Mission pedals

I don't have my ethercon mounted yet as I need to order a new jack before drilling the hole. I just have my ethercon cable plugged into the back of the MFC and ran out the bottom next to my red Mission, temporarily.

Custom pedalboard for MFC and Mission pedals

Thanks! I like the way it turned out. There a few things I would have changed after getting it together though, but happy overall after messing with it all weekend. Custom pedalboard for MFC and Mission pedals

Yeah about 51 lbs total with the case, but that case is large enough to put other things in it as well, which is my plan. I know a lot of your are concerned about going as light as possible. I'm not so much, I'd rather have superior protection and have piece of mine that my rig is safe in...

Custom pedalboard for MFC and Mission pedals

No pictures were taken during the Tolex application step as it's a VERY messy job and you have to work quickly before the glue keeps you from adjusting the Tolex. As you can see on the side of the board here, there is glue residue. This comes off really easy with a damp rag after it fully...

    CLR connection cable

If you were to hook it up this way, wouldn't it defeat the purpose of having two separate Axe feeds? Modifying your own CLR monitor level while not affecting the FOH level is the goal I would guess.

    How it's Made: Dream Cars

Love the music in this show! I've watched all the episodes so far and have always wondered who that was. Googled it and it led me back here! I had the feeling an Axe had something to do with those great tones behind the narrator!

    CLR in a rack

Going with a 3/4" wood shock rack case that's 16U is already a bad idea if you're traveling lightly. I wouldn't do it, but would be an interesting rig to show up with! Remember, people are still gigging with these! http://www.deyapa.us/adpics/250_3021527280_4fac1d2b68a29.jpeg
  38. woodnwire85

    CLR in a rack

With it pulled all the way to the front of the rack? Maybe a little, but with the amount of SPLs coming out of that thing, I doubt it would be a clear audible difference. Besides, I probably wouldn't do this (rack my CLR), it was just an interesting coincidence that it fit perfect.
  39. woodnwire85

    CLR in a rack

It's the wedge in the picture, not the cab, which has the cloth grill. I just have it setup straight like a cab and not kicked back like a wedge.
  40. woodnwire85

    CLR in a rack

That's what I was thinking! It would work great having 5U left at the top to rack the Axe Fx, a power conditioner, wireless, drawer, etc! Even better would be to get something like this: OSP 16 Space 16U 19" Shock Mount Amp Rack Case w/Casters. ..and then find a way to keep the CLR from moving...

    MFC Availability 2013?

Jul, if you have the Mark II units, go with a Ethercon cable from Best-Tronics. You can even get it custom cut to the length of your liking. I just got one at 30', which is plenty for most of my gigs around here. It's a great high quality cable that is beefy, yet lays flat. Some computer CAT5...

    CLR in a rack

I was messing around with rearranging some things in the studio last night and just accidentally set my active CLR wedge in front of my empty 16U studio rack and a lightbulb came on! The CLR fits in the width of a 19" rack! Not that I would need to rack the CLR for any reason but thought it was...

I played Mackie powered 15" speakers on the Axe when I first got it and they sounded pretty good. Most people here will swear by Atomic CLR, Matrix or XiTone. I sold a couple guitars to buy the powered CLR (mainly based on feedback from this forum) and it'll arrive tomorrow. Don't think you...

    Test clip fw10 vs. fw11

Headphones is the key to hearing the biggest change from 10 to 11, IMO. That takes out all background noise where you're playing and you're hearing only your guitar. Carvin DCM1540L into Mesa Vertical Recto 212 Slant Cab

I'm looking at upgrading from my Carvin DCM200L, it's just not loud enough in a full band setting. Just curious as to why you chose the 1500 and not the 1000? It's 4lbs lighter and $50 cheaper, not that either of the specs are dealbreakers. The 1000 still operates at 175W at 8 ohm, which sounds...

What is your Power amp of choice for use with the Axe FX II?

I just used a DCM200L on Saturday for an outdoor gig and turned it all the way home, but yet the drummer still drowned me out. I love Carvin gear and own quite a few of their pieces, but I may have to upgrade to the 1000 or 1500. How do you make the 200 work for you, Roadrunner?

I own, and have owned, quite a few tube amps so don't get me wrong in my opinion. Playing the AFII next to someone playing through a tube amp, you always sorta get that snarl or growl look as you reach over and go from a Twin, to a Dumble, to a Splawn, to a Mark II, and so on...while they're...

can an axe fx ii into a mackie hd 1221 pull off a local gig by itself?

Tosin Abasi also used (or still does) use the Mackie HD in his backline I believe. I'd keep the wedge at a manageable volume when your Axe is set at 12 o'clock, then adjust on the front of the Axe from there.

Could this because there's a gain setting on your wireless unit? I wouldn't think there would be a difference in the two inputs or Fractal would have put it in the manual.

products for cleaning the axe and mfc?

I would NOT recommend the canned air for cleaning or dusting the Axe of MFC. What do you keep in your 2U rack drawer? I currently have one in my 6U SKB rolling rack along with my II and a 1U Monster Power, but that drawer even empty weighs 15 lbs! I load it with cables and it's well over 25 lbs. Just curious what other people are using their rack drawers for.

Another viable power amp option? Vivid Amp VR2700

Are you comparing it to the XT1000? For us in the States, today, the XT1000 would be around $731 with no other fees or freight charges, so yes Matrix is still a bit cheaper, but he's also an upstart company it looks like. The XT1000 is only 500W per channel, where as the Vivid is 700W per channel.

what if local venues have bad quality monitoring? buy a cab?

For those of you using in-ears, do you have a full band monitor mix going to them? I would think if it was just my signal from my Axe, that'd be the only thing I would hear and not the rest of the band. I like a "more me" mix with the others pulled in, but not an "all me" mix

This is my worry as I also play some outdoor gigs during the summer time. For most gigs, we only pump vocals and kick through the FOH and blend in our guitar and bass amps.
