Why is it necessary to apply high/lo pass filters to cabs?

It is because of the microphone. Most IRs are “close mic’d,” which means the bass and low mids will be fattened by the proximity effect. On top of that, many are also much more centered or “on-axis” to the speaker cap than you would put your ears with a real cab, which makes high cuts necessary...

    Germanium boost pedal?

I have an analog Benson Fuzz that I like. I run the gain at 0, where, according to the manual, it operates more like a clean germanium boost. It fattens/thickens the tone, softens it, and somehow makes it pop a little more at the same time. I want to replicate this in the AxeFx and go all...

Using multiple amps and continuity between tones and frequency?

Another factor to consider is the microphones. For example, going from an SM57 to an R121 is enough of a change to potentially break that continuity. Dynacabs are great for creating some standardization because you can select the mics and control distance and placement.

Why do some IR's and DynaCab's seem to compress more than others?

No, speaker compression is the right one for that. Turning compliance up simulates a speaker that has been worn down or “broken in” over time. A little goes a long way.

The more IRs are used, the more realistic the amp/cab in the room sound is

No, my 2 cents is: the closer to real listening distance (3-5ft) and the better the mic, the more it will sound like amp in the room. The closest I’ve gotten to that is 12 inch distance with a dynacab pack and a ribbon mic. I find there is a coherency and punchlines to one IR that washes away...

0.2dB is noticeable, but subtle. I suspect some of the differences could be the mic position. Question about the Cab Block/Cabinets (probably dumb)

A big part of the tone of a 4x12 is the large cabinet. Generally, an IR has a mic pointed at just one speaker, so think of it as more like a single 12” speaker in a giant cabinet with a deeper tone. A while back, I remember reading about someone who put a single 12” speaker into a big 4x12...

Messing around with this a little more using a monitor... I've decided I'm liking it best with the distance cranked all the way up to 24cm. Even going from 20 to 24 noticeably reduces the girth that mics add to the notes and makes it sound more like a real amp. I cranked up the volume a bit...

EQ curve preset that mimics regular guitar cabs for FRFR users?

Having re-read the thread, one thing that worked for me was using dynacabs with a single ribbon mic at 20cm. That produces a great amp in the room sound from my monitors. It sounds more natural and doesn’t have the girth that the traditional IR I was using before had.

EQ curve preset that mimics regular guitar cabs for FRFR users?

  73. G

EQ curve preset that mimics regular guitar cabs for FRFR users?

My understanding of the “actual problem” is that too much of your lows are bleeding into the room, and not enough are reaching your ears. EQ curve preset that mimics regular guitar cabs for FRFR users?

  75. G

EQ curve preset that mimics regular guitar cabs for FRFR users?

You could get a pad to put on the floor underneath the amp to reduce the amount of vibration and bass. Something like this: https://auralex.com/gramma-v2/ (Note: I don’t have experience with that product. It was just the first one I found on a search.)
  76. G

EQ curve preset that mimics regular guitar cabs for FRFR users?

Wedge monitors put a lot of lows and low mids into the room. To compensate, FOH needs to cut those frequencies from the mains. What makes it a pain for FOH is they don’t have a balanced signal to turn up or down. Adjusting the volume of the guitar in the FOH changes the balance. This can...
