Should I keep bothering with the Axe-Fx II XL+?

Yes.... especially when big name acts are using it.... some people just can't make it happen I guess. Beats me

Who's Planning To "Eventually" Move Up To The III?

I'm sure there's more improvements in IR technology to come and the 3 will have the horsepower to facilitate the changes. I bet we'll all be compelled to get one sooner or later.
  8. M

Is it me or is the Axe fx 3 aesthetically unpleasing?

Personally I think it looks great and would be easy to edit stuff live on the fly and you can see what's going on the screen. I doubt the serious professionals will complain about the size. Can't please everyone.
  9. M

Does it sound better than the Axe Fx 2 XL+?

Its hard to resist the fantastic equipment that fractal make, shear pleasure to play with and explore!!!

    AX8 V9.02 Released!

I'm 58 and do a lot of home recording these days, I'd still go out for a few gigs if they were withwhile or with decent players. Lost way too much hearing from this passion as well. John Lee hooker played right up to very old age. Take heart and keep at it guys I say.

AX8: what is "must have" IR ?

I have Cubase... generally speaking they do 2 or 3 updates for free then a new version lands. Had it since cubase 4 on 9 Pro now. $200 dollars each time to stay with current platform. Had my Axe fx2 for four years, so many updates I've lost count. Yes it's what fractal say they offer in buying...

AX8: what is "must have" IR ?

Well every other software update I get for my DAW or anything else associated with music related stuff I pay for. Some others might offer a few updates, not like fractal imo.The whole point of my original statement was about supporting the company, that's all.
  15. M

AX8: what is "must have" IR ?

Really? All free indefinitely? I'm glad they have been so far. But If other companies such as car manufacturers for example offered free upgrades like fractal they would soon go out of business. You paid good money for a fantastic product but cliff and co have gone way over expectations really.
  16. M

AX8: what is "must have" IR ?

Once you've bought a Axefx or AX8 fractal receive no payment for all the firmware they give out for free.. all good will really. The extra cab packs are really cheap if you ask me and the tonal variations are quite amazing, and you are supporting this great company. Yes other 3rd party stuff is...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.00 Firmware Release

Cliff thanks for including the BK7. I know a lot of guys have been begging for more bass models but I think the tonal options of this unit is going to offer a lot more useable sounds to a very impressive range of bass amps we have. Very grateful to be using your gear that has changed the world...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 8.02 Firmware Release

Matrix GT 1000 and Matrix 2x12 full range cab. Last week I tried using a regular guitar cab with vintage 30 celestions and also my single 25 greenback cab instead of the Matrix cab but still using the GT1000. I preferred the full range Matrix cab and the particular IR's I use a lot more...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 8.02 Firmware Release

I had a jam on the weekend with some old buddies who are great players and there were some great amps on offer ...Vox's Marshall fenders etc there.. the axe and Matrix amp and cab was the best tone there on the day no question, they all played through it, and were all amazed. I've always...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 8.00 Public Beta

I think it's fantastic that Cliff shares each beta with the community, players pickup any unusual characteristics and report them. We all benefit from this. The fact that FAS are so willing to do this is a real credit to them and what clearly sets them apart from the competition.
  22. M

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 8.00 Public Beta

Not sure why you've posted this.... sounds a lot like a cheap shot at a lot of people here and at Cliff as well. I've been trying to get a 10 track recording of my songs finished for about 4 years now and started with firmware 11 or 13 thereabouts. I'm still using a lot of tracks from early on (...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.02 Public Beta

You are spot on, higher gain sounds have been more forgiving, nailing really great edge of breakup tones is more elusive. Looking forward to giving the motor drive a go!

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.01 Firmware Release

Running this latest firmware I tried turning off the IR's and using my greenback 25 cab instead of my Matrix 2 x 12 cab and I have to say I don't want to go back to that again. It's at such a high standard now it's just a backward step. The new shimmer drive is very special too. Gives a non...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.00 Firmware Release

Ok folks... show some love and go and buy the new greenback pack, I'm sure it's fantastic and good way of showing our appreciation for what this company does for us!!!
  32. M

    After 10 years, I'm done...

Yeah I get it, if I'm just using greenback ir's for example I would prefer to use my guitar cab, I guess it's more forgiving and what we are all more used to. The sound of different amps is less apparent with a cab as has been discussed so much on this forum. You've got to be happy with what you...

    After 10 years, I'm done...

I've got the 2U Matrix GT1000 powering the 2 x 12 Matrix cab and love it. It's a crisp bright sound next to a regular guitar cab, but it is a fully produced sound. Takes some getting used to, but I can't ignore all the speaker options I can use, it's far too limiting to just have one cabinet...

    Taking the final plunge.

I have a Vox Ac30 last of the batch made in the U.K with blue speakers and a JTM45 I had point to point wired with all the best resistors etc, never use either of them now. Paid a lot for them and would never get my money back. I'll hang on to them for nostalgia I guess.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.00 Public Beta

I noticed the Jumped Hiwatt sounding amazing at this release, it was never at the Marshall standard for me before. There's so much attitude and mojo now and works exceptionally well with a Fas drive or Fet boost in front of it, killer. Thanks guys!!

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.00 Public Beta

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Firmware Released

I wanted to say that even though I keep things really simple I think it's "awesome"the advanced functions on the drive pedals in particular. Just to be able to dial in a bit more bass or push /cut the mids or highs. I used to always want that on my old tubescreamer. It's great to be able tweak...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Firmware Released

A few people here have said friends & other players they know have been intimidated by the Axefx, that has been my experience too, actually I was one of those people before I bought mine, a Pre- amp processor with a huge amount of control, oh no I'll need a degree in engineering!! The general...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Firmware Released

To have an authentic screen of each amps controls or ones a different shading to indicate that certain controls don't exist on the real counterpart....That would be a damn lot of work for Cliff and co. I can see the above post will apply, resource hungry etc. It's fair to want to know sweet...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Firmware Released

The aurguements for a layout that are accurate to the actual amps are understandable, I don't use advance parameters either like Mikko. AX8 V6.02 Released

The JTM is always a tricky one to get right. They do get farty with out a lot of encouragement. Great amp though. I don't think I'll use mine much in the future, but don't think I could part with it. Fractal stuff is too damn good.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Public Beta

Played around with the speaker drive last night and tried it on a real clean preset getting that Stevie Ray Vaughan Little Wing/ Lenny tone. On that sound I found it took away a bit of the nice snap you get when playing that style. Will listen carefully how it sounds on other clean tones. Love...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Public Beta

I guess its what cliff has stated, a little more in the room....I think it gets a little squishy if you hit really hard in a good way with low settings. It just adds to the whole realism to me.
  49. M

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Public Beta

Good example of what too much sounds like ( on 5 that is). And listening to Neil Young's "Rockin in the free world" your sample of the speaker drive on five reminds me of his sound on his track, pretty flubby. Nice playing by the way!!!
  50. M

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Public Beta

I can understand high gain players not liking what the speaker drive does... compress etc . But for me a fan of Vox's & Ritchy Blackmore in particular it's just incredible. I'm nailing his tones with this now, something that was elusive in the past. When speakers are really pushed and amps work...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Public Beta

I love this new update. It certainly sounds more rounded to me with the speaker drive around 1.40. I've been swapping between my AX8 and (AXE2 with the new beta) using the same patches and cabs etc just to hear the difference and have to say it feels and sounds better. Thanks Cliff for this!!!

Yes they are great, and the hypermixes etc are a welcomed addition and would like to try some grungy type flavors.I've only had the pack for a couple of days so I really have only had a quick listen and replaced some of my patches with a sample of each type after some comparisons with the others...

Dr Bonkers Needs Your Input for Future Bass Cab IR Packs!!!

I purchased the Silver & black volume 1. What a great bunch of bass IR's!!! I always prefer 15" speakers to 10" any day and these particular speakers and cabs are really special. 10" speakers have too much upper mid range bark to my ears. Thanks Dr Bonkers, they are my go to IR's for bass now...

    Matrix vs. QSC?

I have a friend with an axe fx 2 who bought the QSCK12 and thinks they are fantastic. I trust his judgement as he is a great player. What a difference a good room makes!

I have a small room setup for my studio and the bass booms big time. I know I need to put some bass traps in the corners to alleviate the problem. From what some people have said there seems to be a real science to getting it right.

    Bass players

Marshall's sound great with bass for a bit off grit with a 4 x 12 cab and a bass cab together. Chris Squire of Yes used Marshalls all the time. I think there's heaps of great tones to be had for bass with the amps we have in the Axe. Mmm I will try the Hiwatt, I bet that sounds great with that...

ML Sound Lab Episode 3: Cab Pack 11 SV Bass Tutorial

Finally got back from a holiday in the US and bought the 4 x10 Bass Cab pack 11. It is really fantastic... the IR's seem to have a lot more clarity, punch, depth & sustain than the standard high res 4 x10 ones in the factory cabs presets. A real winner!!!!

At U2 now.. Where is Edge hiding the Axe's??

    Fractal - Never Better

Yep it's a fantastic piece of equipment. The axe and Steven slate drums have transformed my recordings. I was never prepared to release anything because I would be making excuses for the guitar tones not being what I heard in my head. Now it's all about what tone does this song need. I feel...

Should we have to "sign" the release notes before being able to DL them ?

I've been guilty of starting a unnecessary thread and felt foolish after I realized it had been discussed extensively. This is a busy busy forum and it's difficult to keep up with all the topics generated, they can quickly end up a few pages back depending on activity. I look at the forum during...

18.07 seems to have quite a bit more bass and gain?

A couple of big name players here in Australia have always had the bass turned right down to zero and say that they never use it. Their tones have been huge and don't lack anything.
  79. M

Are we wrapped up in the tech of the axe fx

I get your point. But most famous players doing a lot of recording use heaps of different amps, guitars etc almost song to song. I always think of Jimmy Page & Hendrix using any bit of gear they could get there hands on to build a sonic landscape. The Axe gives us all these great tones in the...

    Fractal Mic + Di cabs

I was playing around with a preset, (stays crunchy). There is 2 amps and four cabinets on that patch. I swapped out the cabinets routed to the bottom amp on the patch with the new UR factory patches 7 & 5. Wow!!! The difference is huge, and the tone is to die for. Will buy the Cab pack 10...
  81. M

Rough guess as to when Fractal stops updating the II?

I feel you can have too much stuff going on in a patch. EVH was better in the early days IMHO. Once he started using all that processing the very thing that made him so great diminished. It was in your face, and so inspiring. There's only so much space in a good recording.
  82. M

FAS Bass is G3 - but why no pro UR bass cab IRs yet?

Ok People, we've got these guys making UR bass cabs for us. To me that's the crucial element to good bass tone. We've all had our say... Get out and purchase them all when they land!!!!!!
  83. M

Tell a friend. Show your support.

They release a cab pack.. I buy it..when I.talk to other guitarists I sing fractal's praises. Too easy and our responsibility as satisfied customers. Win win for everyone, simple.
  84. M

FAS Bass is G3 - but why no pro UR bass cab IRs yet?

Maybe just maybe... Wild guess, Cliff might have plans for a fractal unit for bass players down the track?
  85. M

FAS Bass is G3 - but why no pro UR bass cab IRs yet?

You know what.... Bass is so important in a bands sound. Think of every great band. The bass is strong, very focused in the mix and driving the song. Take Led Zeppelin for example.. Jimmy starts whole Lotta love then this thunder-house bass comes in and it takes off. Would be a shame to have to...

FAS Bass is G3 - but why no pro UR bass cab IRs yet?

Adding Cab "air" for some ZZ Top Sizzle

Love Billy Gibbons, Tres Hombres is a killer album. The guitar tones and playing on the whole album is sublime. Never translated live, a lot of guitar parts to each song beautifully executed. Bass Amps and Cabs?

I use the ST amp and the 15" cab with excellent results. Sometimes I use 2 amps ie the ST & a Marshall & quad set With a bit of gain and blend them to get a bit more of an aggressive sound.I always roll off the bottom end in my mixdowns with all patches as it gets boomy but so does DI bass too...
