I prefer accurate models (even if they sound "worst" than the idealized version). I use the tools in the Axe to "idealize" the model if I feel it is needed. If I can't get the sound I want after utilizing the tools in the Axe (adding compression, changing IRs, etc.), which is a rare occurrence...

I agree with your statement; however, "what sounds good" is a subjective goal while "closer to the sound of the modeled amp" is an objective goal. As far as I know, FAS has always aimed to nail the sound of the modeled amp as accurately as possIble.

IR Present for You

I am not an expert on IRs, but this comment makes a lot of sense to me. I do get great results adjusting the speaker page parameters by ear; but it would be great to have a "starting point" for each speaker-cab combination.

Cablab is a program available at Fractal Audio store which allows the user to blend IRs (among other things). There are no rules for IR implementation, you can use single mic IRs or pre mixed IRs. Whatever sound best to you.

How to "Hi-cut" While Not Killing the Tone

I use a filter block at the very end of my signal chain; set to lowpass, frequency at 20kHz, with Q from 0.3 to 0.25. In my opinion, cutting highs this way sounds more natural than using the cab block high-cut.

I agree 100%. I think that eventually, tube guitar amps will become a luxury/collector’s item; since modelers are getting better and closer to the real deal (not just the Axe, which in my opinion is better than a tube amp already).

Is the Axe a viable amp?

Personally, I prefer amps with warts and all. Why you might ask??? Because what sound bad to you might sound outstanding to me; furthermore, those "defects" add character to each amp and make them unique. Kudos to FAS for striving for perfection!!!

I live in Puerto Rico, Fractal does not ship directly to PR. You can use a mail forwarding service, there are plenty of them in the US. I suggest you select a vendor from NY or FL since these states have a lot of commerce with Puerto Rico; usually, packages sent from these states arrive here...
