Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 2.04 Firmware Release

It's all good bro. My point is that we already have both since models are becoming more accurate and advanced parameters let you idealize them if you feel the need to do it. Also, as you know, the Axe has many idealized models to choose from. BTW, I am not against idealized models, one of my...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 2.04 Firmware Release

Although I respect your opinion, I strongly disagree. IMO, the whole point of modeling something is to get a close as possible to the modeled device. The Axe provides the necessary tools to idealize the amps, it takes time to understand and master them, but they are there. Furthermore, gettiing...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 2.02 Firmware Release

Ok, thanks for sharing. I totally understand your point. I asked for your opinion (or perception) knowing that what "sounds closer to the modeled amp" is a subjective matter. However, I do value your subjective opinion because you are the person who critically listen to the modeled amp vs the...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 2.01 Firmware Release

I prefer accurate models (even if they sound "worst" than the idealized version). I use the tools in the Axe to "idealize" the model if I feel it is needed. If I can't get the sound I want after utilizing the tools in the Axe (adding compression, changing IRs, etc.), which is a rare occurrence...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 2.01 Firmware Release

I agree with your statement; however, "what sounds good" is a subjective goal while "closer to the sound of the modeled amp" is an objective goal. As far as I know, FAS has always aimed to nail the sound of the modeled amp as accurately as possIble.

Not to hijack this thread, but for low volume practicing, I have been using IK Multimedia Iloud and the auxiliary input on my Yamaha THR10 with great results. The Iloud is designed to be a portable FRFR solution, the sound quality is so good that presets tweaked with the Iloud translate very...

    IR Present for You

I am not an expert on IRs, but this comment makes a lot of sense to me. I do get great results adjusting the speaker page parameters by ear; but it would be great to have a "starting point" for each speaker-cab combination.

Firmware Update Mindset (My Point of View)

The vast majority of improvements made to the amp block have been geared towards greater realism (getting closer to the amp being modeled); I didn’t say that greater realism is FAS only objective. Actually, I prefer my Axe over any amp because it allows me to mod virtual amps to my linking, must...

Firmware Update Mindset (My Point of View)

Like I said in paragraph 2, some of these complaints are legitimate and valuable; you even used the same example (feedback from people who own the actual amp being modeled or have extensive experience with it). 100% agree. If you are struggling with an update, post your concerns in a detailed...

Firmware Update Mindset (My Point of View)

No my friend, is more like the fact that something changes does not necessarily means that you will like the change. By the way, I do agree that FAS should pursue modeling perfection, because it is an objective goal. This is not a sport or some pissing contest, nobody wins or loses; I...

Firmware Update Mindset (My Point of View)

I agree with you. My point is that if some of these guys just change their mindset (modeling improvement does not necessarily equals tone improvement), they would enjoy the Axe more and overcome update shortcomings more easily.
  30. CrimsonGhostSLO

Firmware Update Mindset (My Point of View)

You completely misunderstood my point. Like I said in the third paragraph, is not that people who prefer a more idealized tone are wrong or they should not discuss how to get the tone they are looking for; is just that, IMO, some of them do not seem to realize that what they call "an update that...

    Axe-Fx II Firmware 15.00 Released

Just my two cents: FAS strides to model amplifiers as accurately as possible; it has to be this way because achieving ultimate realism is an objective goal. If you ask ten guitarist to describe their ideal tone, you might get ten different answers; the subjectivity of what "perfect tone" is...

    Fractal Audio Product Development Question

    Fractal Audio Product Development Question

Have not decided that yet. I would settle even for an ambiguous answer as "good things happen to those who wait". I am not demanding an answer or asking for details; but if FAS is working on a pedal format unit, I would rather wait and keep hauling my back-up rig rather than committing to a...

    Fractal Audio Product Development Question

Not in a hurry here, my current back-up rig works just fine (although it is inconvenient). There is a product being developed right now that will offer all the features I am looking for; however, I have the feeling that FAS has something much better in development

    Ownhammer question

Cablab is a program available at Fractal Audio store which allows the user to blend IRs (among other things). There are no rules for IR implementation, you can use single mic IRs or pre mixed IRs. Whatever sound best to you.

How to "Hi-cut" While Not Killing the Tone

I use a filter block at the very end of my signal chain; set to lowpass, frequency at 20kHz, with Q from 0.3 to 0.25. In my opinion, cutting highs this way sounds more natural than using the cab block high-cut.

Looking for Amps on Craigslist and Found This

I agree 100%. I think that eventually, tube guitar amps will become a luxury/collector’s item; since modelers are getting better and closer to the real deal (not just the Axe, which in my opinion is better than a tube amp already).

Is the Axe a viable amp?

Personally, I prefer amps with warts and all. Why you might ask??? Because what sound bad to you might sound outstanding to me; furthermore, those "defects" add character to each amp and make them unique. Kudos to FAS for striving for perfection!!!

I live in Puerto Rico, Fractal does not ship directly to PR. You can use a mail forwarding service, there are plenty of them in the US. I suggest you select a vendor from NY or FL since these states have a lot of commerce with Puerto Rico; usually, packages sent from these states arrive here...

Just in case, the VH4 is not my "go to amp"; like you, I noticed an increase in low end that did not suit my taste. I set the character frequency close to 850Hz, don't remember the setting for the character parameter, drop the dynamic frequency a bit (close to -1) and liked the sound I got...
