    FM9 Firmware Version 7.00

I gigged firmware 7 for the first time last night - it sounded amazing and worked smooth as silk. Awesome work team Fractal!

dumb question - any "fix" for the loud pop you get when powering on/off?

These are some interesting observations. Until recently, I'd always power on my monitor system (either FRFR or IEM) after I power up the FM9 (monitors being the last thing on, and the 1st thing off). As has been mentioned, this practice has always alleviated this problem for me. However, I...

USB Audio Driver Update for Axe-Fx III, FM3, and FM9

True that mac's don't need usb drivers, but things weren't entirely clear initially. The OP does say, "We recommend that all users should update," which I took literally. When I couldn't find any mac drivers I re-installed the USB v1.02 firmware. Doh! All good tho.

    FM9 Firmware Version 6.00

I finally got to gig the new firmware last night at an R&B gig, and again this morning at my church gig. Just using my usual presets. Everything was great. Having gapless switching between everything is such a monumental game changer. I've started to rebuild my main preset around all the new...

How to fix silent audio in Cab-Lab 4 'Software Live Mode' under Mac OS

Yes, turns out this is a known fw 6 issue that's supposed to be fixed in the next FM9 firmware beta. I'd been in touch with support on this and that's the latest I heard from them. I did roll back to fw5 and after resetting everything (you must re-load your previous v5 FM9 settings as well as...

    FM9 Firmware Version 6.00 public beta (1)

Actually - I forgot to re-do my permissions for the mic in Cab Lab 4. Once I reset that for CL4 the SW Live Mode was working fine on fw 5.0.1. When we were troubleshooting things under the fw 6 beta I had tried toggling that setting on & off (which was unsuccessful). So, it would appear that...

    FM9 Firmware Version 6.00 public beta (1)

After rolling back to firmware 5.0.1, I still don't have SW Live Mode working at all in Cab Lab 4 (which turned out to be operator error - see post below), but I was able to successfully use the HW Manual mode. Why anyone would want to use the HW Manual mode to create a blend of DynaCab Packs...

Same here - I've been working with Matt to sort this out via a support request. I'm getting the exact same symptoms as you - glad to know we're not crazy. LOL I'm going to roll back to fw 5 today and see if CL4 and FM9 (w fw5) play nice together again. If as I suspect they will, it probably...

    FM9 Firmware Version 6.00 public beta (1)

Has anyone tried using Cab Lab 4 with the v6 beta? I'm not able to get SW Live Mode to work. Even after trying these suggestions: https://support.fractalaudio.com/en-US/fix-no-audio-in-cab-lab-4-software-live-mode-under-mac-os-356462 Wondering if it's just me, or a possible bug?

How to fix silent audio in Cab-Lab 4 'Software Live Mode' under Mac OS

I've been having a problem along these lines with Cab Lab 4 on FM9 fw v6 beta 1. I'm on a mac pro running OS 10.14.6. Wow - this update is truly spectacular. Well done team Fractal. Mind blown. Because of the gapless switching, DynaCab technology, new everything (or so it seems), I'm once again completely rethinking how I build presets from the ground up. Which is a very good, if not slightly daunting thing...

Are most of you gigging with your FM9's?

Actually, I wouldn't draw any such conclusions and would go so far as to say you're being a little paranoid if you do. To say "many people experience weird behavior with it at gigs" begs a few questions of it's own. Starting with how many people is "many people" exactly? Are you talking about...

Are most of you gigging with your FM9's?

Yes - I bought it to gig & record with. I gig mine around 4 to 6 times a month on average. It's easily the most reliable piece of gear I've ever owned. To include going back to when I gigged my AX8. The latest firmware is excellent and if what's on the horizon comes to pass with the next...

Nobody has the courage to ask. I'll be the one to do it!

I too, like how you took some of the edge off by adding "very." Well played sir! Also, to the OP, we've all had the same question, but we also know this standard answer awaits any of us who dare ask. Thank you all the same. Here's hoping the gap between the last update and the next brings us...

    Praise and Worship presets ?

The P&W term literally means absolutely nothing as far as I'm concerned. I know, I shouldn't say that, but I really don't care. And yes, I just got home from playing one of my many "church gigs" I get called to do. None of which has ever been referred to as a, "praise and worship" gig. Music is...

Am I too low in the mix?

Yep. Based on these recordings, your guitar is a little low in the mix. I've done live sound in a variety of settings and between your apparent setup and the room you're in, the deck was stacked against you before you even set up. If the one guitar, bass and drums are going to be "playing the...

    FM9 Firmware Version 5.01

    Thanks!
  28. BCy2k

Will this be the guitar tone of the future?

Well, based on Mr. Watt's credentials, I'm not inclined to be too dismissive. I've done loads of sessions where upon soloing the guitar track, it sounds nasty and utterly unusable, yet sits amazingly in the mix. Go figure. Happens more than you might think.
  29. BCy2k

How do you plan to use gapless switching?

When I currently use 2 amp blocks, each block has the same 4 amps in it's four channels. From there it's about having the 2 amp channels I want instant access to within any given scene. If the gapless switching delivers as I hope, I'll be trying to run 8 different amps amongst the 8 available...

Gapless switching MAY be coming to FM9

They way I'm making presets lately is all about having gapless switching between any 2 amps of my choosing. It works, and I'm very pleased with that. If team Fractal can bring next level gapless switching between presets (which is huge), AND scenes (be still my heart), AND channels (shut up!)...

    Number of Expression Pedals

Yes, every preset. I don't use the mixer block. There are other ways to switch between amps of course, but overall I'm liking the pan/crossfade setup with the 3rd pedal. That looks very interesting indeed, thanks! I happen to have 2 more expression pedals looking for something better to do than...
  32. BCy2k

    Number of Expression Pedals

    To Dyna or not

It took me a while to warm up to Dyna Cabs. I get it. Finding the right IR, or mix of IRs, can take loads of time to arrive at (at least for me it can). When you do finally get there, that tends to set a pretty high bar. At first I couldn't get Dyna Cabs to sound even close to what my preferred...

    Pitch - Virtual Capo Sound

I started using the VC live for one song that's tuned down 1/2 step. I do hear the warbling and feel the latency, but "in the mix" it becomes much less of an issue. Just bought some EV PXM - 12MP’s

The people I know who have dealt with the pay to play environment were all in the LA/Southern California area. I know this was the norm for a few years there, and no one I spoke with about it had anything good to say about the practice. I never ever ran into it. I did lots of lousy $50 a night...

Sigh, I've been waiting to gig some DynaCab edits I've been working on. I was supposed to have 4 gigs over the past week, but every single one of them cancelled for various reasons. 3, including today's gig, were cancelled due to rain. Pay is the same, but I really wanted to crank things at...

    FM9 effects vs. FX8

I went from FX8 to AX8 and now FM9. I've always felt Fractal's effects were absolutely on par with the best stuff out there. From AX8 to FM9

I made the same move from AX8 to FM9 a couple years ago. I needed to do the same thing when I first got the FM9. The first order of business was I needed to replicate my AX8 presets for gigging. I still use many of the same amp models, and various effects as I used from the AX8, but I've more...

    Dyna Cabs...why don't I get it?

Update from this pilgrim, and my adventures with Dyna-Cabs. The magic to getting what you want out of DC may involve trying different preamps and/or EQ settings from the preamp page in the CAB block. I was able to get much improved results via DC compared to the (3rd party) legacy IRs I'm...

Just bought some EV PXM - 12MP’s

I did my 6th gig with the EV PXM 12-MP yesterday. This was on a larger stage not using IEM, unlike some of my previous gigs with it. I was able to open it up and run it louder given the circumstances and at the end of it all I was even more impressed with it. Really glad I picked one up.

    Dyna Cabs...why don't I get it?

When I was comparing my legacy IR selections to the best I was able to (quickly) dial up via DC (I'm talking after a few minutes), I made similar observations. I was using a pair of the more "beefy" Ownhammer IRs to get a better sound when using IEMs. I couldn't come close to replicating the...

    Dyna Cabs...why don't I get it?

Yeah, I must confess I wanted to love Dyna Cabs and they ended up being more or less exactly what I expected them to be. I'm just not dialing anything up that I actually like better than my most recent IR selections. I don't hate them either. I can get usable sounds out of them, they're just not...

    Xitone Build Time

I too, have both. I've been gigging the EV since I bought it and I've done some side by side a/b comparisons. I think they're both excellent for any modeler rig. So far I'm still a little partial to my XiTone (active wedge). Probably because I've used it for the last 5 years, I know it better...

AXE FXIII MKII -I switch to FM 9!

The only thing you have to fear, is fear itself. Or something like that. Seriously - I have had zero issues with mine. I was one of the first kids on my block to get one as well. I'm having a hard time imagining a better all in one rig. Rest easy - I think you're going love it.

Just bought some EV PXM - 12MP’s

Interesting comments regarding the bass response of these. I've only gigged mine once so far (will use it two more times this weekend), but in my initial side by side comparisons with my Xitone active wedge I noticed the same thing. It wasn't too much bass, or too little, it was just different...

Sun shield for the FM9, suggestions?

I really like several of the ideas here. I recently did 3 outdoor gigs where I had to set up, sound check, then hang out until downbeat. EV PXM-12MP vs Atomic CLR Neo

And so it begins. Initial 1st impression of the EV is it's very high quality, and noticeably lighter than the Xitone. Xitone is wider & taller than the EV, but the EV sits a couple inches deeper. They both have bacisally the same footprint in the end with one wider and the other deeper. Too...

EV PXM-12MP vs Atomic CLR Neo

I was an early user of the Atomic Amplifire 3 and had several direct communications with Tom - not due to any problems or needing anything. EV PXM-12MP vs Atomic CLR Neo

EV PXM-12MP vs Atomic CLR Neo

I've never played thru a CLR, but I've been using a Xitone active wedge for a few years and I really have no complaints. Channel inc/dec on multiple blocks at one time?

Very cool & interesting idea for sure. I guess it pays to be aware what's happening over at the AxeFxIII forum. I don't have one, and I can barely keep up with everything happening at FM9 forum as is. As always, thanks for the insight & ideas!

Channel inc/dec on multiple blocks at one time?

Some of my presets I have dedicated (via per preset) switches assigned to increment thru all 4 channels when I want to dial up a particular setting for a given block, but it's done per block. Nice Compliment on my FM9

I've received a lot of complements on my tones from sound tech's and band mates going back to my AX8 use. That's only increased since I started using the FM9. From Fm9 to Fm3....crazy?

If you only need one amp per scene, I can see how the FM3 would be the perfect fit. Now that I've had a taste of how much better my scenes are with 2 amps each, I'm plenty happy to stay with my FM9. YMMV

FYI Shunt uses CPU: 0.1-0.2% per shunt

Yes, shunts are not "free" when it comes to CPU use. They don't use much, but sometimes it's enough to put you over the CPU limit depending on how many are present in any given layout. One of many lessons learned the hard way.
  66. BCy2k

    Powered Cabs

I've been using an active Xitone with my FM9 and my AX8 prior to that. I'm still a plenty happy camper. I want a 2nd. One thing I'd add is, I'm not a fan of any FRFR that comes in a plastic box. YMMV

    Let's see those FM9 rigs!

It's a Roadie Case. Pic attached. There's a 1-800 number on the logo badge you could try. The external dimensions are roughly 27.75" x 15" x 7" FWIW. Subtract around 3/8" for the internal dimensions. Weight is probably around 25 - 30lbs give or take.

The Virtual Capo is truly Amazing - but be extra careful how you program it when using Scene Ignore!

I guess this post is part cautionary tale, with a side of praise for the folks at Fractal at how truly great the virtual capo works. This cross fading between amp blocks approach is working out well for me and freeing up scenes for other things. It essentially adds a 2nd amp sound to each scene, which is huge actually. dual amps no gap

I've been searching through the forums on the topic of gapless scene switching and just wanted to make sure I'm understanding things correctly.
