Setting the Axe3 up with my DAW question

You can hook your monitors up to the Axe and use it as the sound card. Otherwise your options of using your interface with the Axe would be to use SPDIF. I actually prefer using the Analog outs into my UAD interface. It is an extra conversion, but it's not a problem for me.

I know there is a big hole in the market for something like this. Alesis IO and an ipad is the way I would go. I know the Roland SPD-SX is pretty reliable, although not rackmounted.

GetGood Drums snare comparison + ML Bulb Zilla + Darkglass

A great technique with these samples is to bounce the main track with the low snare when you bounce down the drums and then when you do OH and Room - switch Kontakt to the high snare and use that. Works great with Med and High. You could also just bounce down your snare track with the high snare...

What's the best DAW for a guitar player with an AxeFX II XL+ and Windows?

If you are doing a lot of drum programming I would suggest Cubase for its drum editor and drum maps. I use Logic on Mac and am starting to use Cubase in Windows for writing my drums.

MV settings for5153

I just did a quick test. First Part is Master Volume at 3 and the second is MV at 5 with the Level adjusted accordingly. Otherwise the preset is set the same in both. Gain at 6.22. I think I like the MV at 3 better. Pardon the crap DI I had laid down.

I am interested in nailing a good 5150 III tone as well and am also curious. The best 6160 preset I have found is using MV of 5 but low gain since it using a boost. Sounds great with the drive around 6 without a boost as well.

How is Q5 going for you? I know your HBE patch sounded better in Q3 on my rig. I think tweaking the Harmonics and Preamp Bias settings helps. Love the ambience on your drum sound.

Which headphones do you use to save peace at home?

I have found that my Blue Lola's translate very well - especially for my Axe patches. Plus they are really quiet which saves a lot of peace in my house. I find myself having to mix late at night and they translate better than my AKG Q701's for mixes and Axe patches.

You have to really hear both for yourself. Most of my playing is in the Studio so I prefer FRFR. It is a different feel though. Translates better for me recording. Invest in some Ownhammer Cab IRs! They are fantastic and really made me fall in love with my Axe tones.

I picked up the Lola model recently. They are much better picking out detail and low end than my AKG Q 701. My mixes translate a bit better. I would definitely recommend these for the Axe.
