Is my rig "safe"? Poweramp into cab questions.

I'm paranoid that I might have already caused damage. Would it be obvious if I've already ruined the speakers?

Is my rig "safe"? Poweramp into cab questions.

Okay, I've switched it over to mono. I never ran it past the "12" mark on the Carvin Poweramp. Correct me if I'm wrong, but since the poweramp is solid state, isn't the "go to" rule of thumb to treat it like 240 watts times 5 for SS instead of tube?

Is my rig "safe"? Poweramp into cab questions.

Hey guys. Picked up a Carvin DCM2000L to run into an Orange 4x12 with my Axe FX 2. I'm currently running the Carvin in bridged mode, but I'm not sure if this is safe. Am I going to overload the speakers? Orange speakers are rated 240W at 16 ohms.

Das Metall - more accurate to VH4 than VH4 emulation?!?!?!

I've also noticed a weird disparity between the VH4 and Das Metal models. Something about the VH4 is 'off'. It's definitely a tricky beast to tame compared to the Das Metal. Carvin DC727 loaded with BKP Blackhawks -> Gate -> Drv -> Amp (VH4) -> Filter (notched at 11k) -> Cab (#48 w/ 58 DYN)...

Will another Axe-Fx II Firmware be released soon?

You can achieve just about any tone with the 80+ existing amps...don't know why people need a 'few more' all the time. Hell, I've only used about 5 amps thoroughly, and there's another 15 or so I'd love to get around to still.

Taming the high end with an actual Cabinet.

Try messing around with a filter, high/low pass and notch out some problem frequencies. Good place to start is the 5k range, do some tweaking and see if that chills out the high end.

Post your top 5 favorite amps in FW10

Just curious to see what amps people are enjoying in FW10 the most. Post your top 5 with maybe a little description or reason as to why you enjoy the amp/how it's changed. I've definitely gained a few favorites and no longer use a few amps I used in FW9. 1. Suhr Badger 30 - I'm enjoying this...

Firmware 10 shat on my patches in spectacular fashion

I don't think any future FW updates will require the patch 'reset' that FW10 did. Seems like MIMIC has finalized any major amp tweaks. It's near-perfect. Edit: I've A/B'd a few high-gain amps (5150, Dual rec, powerball) to the real deal with a few of my friends' amps. Matching amps with...

Progressive metal FW 10 mixtest The Unexpected Side

Sounds great! Couple things I noticed that you could improve on: - Kick drum feels lost in the mix, and isn't really 'glued' together with the bass. Also, drums are very quiet. - Like Kengtin said, mids are audible on the bass, but I'm not feeling much low end. - Mid-low end on the guitar...

Any tones matches of the ultra (periphery first album style)?

Standard or Mod, both should get you pretty close. I personally used the standard.

Any tones matches of the ultra (periphery first album style)?

TS808 -> FAS Modern -> Tone match the left channel from "The Walk" and you'll get it easily. It's a very weird tone, sounds scooped but it isn't... 'sandy' is a good adjective for it.

Buzz on C and C# on E and A string.

Go to a luthier and have them setup your guitar with an action high/low enough to prevent fret buzz. Get new strings, and have them check pickup height as well. If the problem only occurs on certain notes being fretted at certain places, it may be an uneven fret. Does it happen with every C...

Set the monitors master level to noon, use balanced cables. Should do the trick. I'm using the same ones.
  22. J

    Advice....

Each method has its pros/cons. Poweramp and Cab Pros: You'll get that 'air-pushing' feel you would get from a normal halfstack, and you'll get great volumes for gigs. Can also create patches to have 2 outputs and run direct into PA while also running into a cab. Cons: You'll most likely have...

You should as long as you have your ASIO Drivers set to your Axe-FX in Ableton. Here's how my setup is: I've got my computer speakers, and then my Yamaha HS80M Monitors. My Axe-FX connects to my PC via USB, and then my Axe-FX Output 1 L / R go directly to my monitors. My computer speakers...

    any 8 stringers on here?

Looks like I was a bit misunderstood, I don't mean completely strip out the low end, just clean up some spots with EQ and either boost or cut freqs. By the way, you wouldn't happen to be Rook on sevenstring.org would you?
  40. J

    any 8 stringers on here?

Actually ordering an 8 string from Carvin within the next few weeks, very excited. As far as cleaning up the tone, filter out the low nasty frequencies (anything under 80~100 is the bass guitar's job) and boost up around the 1-1.4k range.

Whats the life expectancy of the AxeFx2?

Oh definitely, I've been building and messing with computers for a majority of my life, and I've seen some pretty random hardware failures that weren't instigated by mistreatment. It happens. In a perfect world, with proper treatment and care, it should outlast the owner. Good to see that...

Whats the life expectancy of the AxeFx2?

Like Scott said, the only thing that would really die is the fan. If you treat it properly, it should last longer than yourself :lol Computers only 'die' if they are given dirty power, are overclocked/not properly cooled, stressed for long periods of time, etc. Luckily for the latter 2, the...

Has anyone ever tone matched a processed patch of their own?

Not sure....I'd imagine it would deviate pretty far from the original tone after 2+ matches. Would be cool to try it out though, haha.
  50. J

Has anyone ever tone matched a processed patch of their own?

I think this is what a lot of bands will do; get their processed tracks from their producer that produced their album, run a tone match and just use that for live to get that perfect 'album' tone. . I've definitely considered trying it.

Achieving feedback using the Axe FX 2

I've been toying around with the idea of 'generating' feedback within a patch on the axe using the feedback send/return blocks, a drive, reverb and delay. An expression pedal would be used to control the feedback send, so you could just generate some by increasing the level, then letting it off...

So I Made A Dumb Mistake ... How About You?

I know the feeling, haha. I received my Axe back in August, and started making patches right away. Everything sounded absolutely amazing on my Gibson SG, but on my Carvin DC727...not so much. Sounded like a flubby mess, too much 'fwump' in the low end. Took me about 3 weeks to realize I had...

Axe FX 2 Recording: analogue to an interface or digital via USB

I've used USB for a bit, and while it gets the job done, I'd imagine for larger scale purposes you would be better off running the Axe into a nice interface. The less processing strain put on the axe, the better IMO.

    FRFR Alto TS112a or TS115a???

Picked up a TS112A. I've tried the Mackie HD1221, and although there IS a difference between the two (The alto has a bit more high end 'clankiness' to it, can easily dial it out though), the Alto just wins in terms of the budget-to-quality ratio. You are paying approx. 500$ more for a MINOR...

I'm really on the fence with getting these...I'm usually the type to just save up for what I really want instead of settling (Reason why I have an AxeII over a Pod ;) ) but I've heard a lot of good things with these Alto speakers. Creating 'organic' feedback sounds?

For those weird dissonant sounds he does w/ Danza, I figured out that you can use an Octave Distortion in the Drive Block. You can get pretty close with it. Use an Exp Pedal to control the mix of it.

    FRFR Setup Question

Okay, thanks! I guess my question has changed now: is poweramp+passive FRFR better than an active FRFR setup? I'd like to use my FRFR as my 'cab', but also have the option to use it as a wedge as well and go direct into a venue's PA system.
