What guitar amplification would you use live? (Metal music)

I always use my on stage FRFR setup, however, the particular venue environment would determine whether or not to use IE monitoring so I can better hear what the PA is doing.

Is it safe to use the Axe-Fx II vertically?

You can do it except that you will be limited to a signal chain of only 4 blocks. The advantage is that you can parallel 12 lines (just keep an eye on the CPU usage!) Oh…(I almost forgot) DON'T turn it back flat (normal position) or else all kinds of goofy shit will happen! LoL!

When you say "Drop D", you are referring to a normal open tuning with the E (6th) tuned down to a D. This would only be possible on a 13-pin guitar and an effects processor (such as the VG-99) that accommodates custom, or Drop D tuning. Otherwise, as the above threads tell you, the result is...

Roland VG-99?

I have also been building presesets mixing the VG99 at the end of the signal chain. I bring it in with the FX LOOP block, both L&R channels . All of these are relatively clean (both processors) because I really don't care for the distortion/overdrive type tones the VG produces. Roland, (IMO)...

Enhancer Block: Amazing....

If you like the Enhancer Block, an interesting alternative is to use the PITCH block. Select "Detune" mode and dial in Voice1 to -3ct, and Voice2 to +3ct. be sure to select STEREO as the input mode. Place this at the end of the signal chain.

Are you referring to the jump into 18.01, or the small changes up to 18.07? Have you done a comparison by going back? The process of building any new FW revision may involve steps that inherently bump up or down the indicated CPU usage as an unintended consequence.

Personally, I'd rather pay $100 for the CFW, as opposed to upgrading to XL+. Keep in mind, this idea was originally presented as a win-win for BOTH sides. I am absolutely sure FAS wouldn't go for it if they were not sure they could make some money. It's a 2-way street…like Cab-Lab, we love it...

My XL Sounded Really Bad through a PA Today, Thats a New Experience!

This has happened to me before. It was obvious that a shitty quality PA was the cause. Unlike your situation, we had amps on the stage and decided to run vocals only through the PA. There are some benefits to small venue gigs. However, in your case, I really feel for you man…that must have SUCKED!

Don't worry about a thing. You can try factory presets and likely will be happy with them. Take the step! You won't regret it. The absolute worst thing that could happen is that you'll decide to sell it at 100% (or more!) of your original cost. (Nothing holds it's valve like an AxeFX!)

I try them all just to see what the result is, but all the time I'm thinking to keep the CAB naked unless a particular mic really makes a big improvement. What I'm really looking for is a change in character rather than an attempt to EQ the cab tone. When it comes to EQ, I keep an open mind...

Yeah. I was just curious. I'm sure you realize that the "amp in the room" will probably change things a bit, depending on what you decide to buy. As a member of this little community, I'm always happy to hear the likes of your story. As we say in the States; We're all happy campers!

I have to ask you…to make this assessment, what kind of power amp and cabinet are you playing through? You mentioned selling off the old AC15, what replaced it??

I think you just caught me right in the middle of editing the thread. NO, NOTHING WORKS. I can change the value on the rotaries but it has no effect. I'm unable to select the preamp type or mode (the field remains blank) HELP! (I'm on a Mac computer)

Did I miss something?? I must have. The new (and fantastic) mic preamps in the cab block work great from the front panel, but are nonfunctional from AxeEdit. A single CAB is selected with a mic. WTF? I skimmed over the release notes but didn't see anything about this. I re-downloaded and...

Preconceptions can be deceiving.

I played an Ebony- Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III for 2 years and loved that guitar. l still gig with it because that's the axe with the Roland GK-3 installed. We do Hotel California using the VG-99 producing a very believable 12 string tone. Although these guitars are made in China, mine came out...

HB/HBE. how much gain for live use

I use them a lot also. I favor the HBE. I found that the gain setting can vary quite a bit depending on the CAB I pair them up with. I use mainly user cabs and they are a mixed bunch indeed.

User Presets?

Choose any preset that you really don't like and either CLEAR it using the pull-down function in AxeEdit and start from scratch, OR…modify the preset by plugging in different CABs and AMPs. Experiment! You will learn which AMPs and CABs sound good together.
