"does the Ax smoke a pod hd?" No, actually the Axe-Fx doesn't "smoke" the Pod HD, but rather it reduces to a colorless, odorless gas consisting of various isotopes of Carbon. In other words…It vaporizes it!

Gibson Guitar is a Remarkably Unpopular Company

Is it safe to use the Axe-Fx II vertically?

You can do it except that you will be limited to a signal chain of only 4 blocks. The advantage is that you can parallel 12 lines (just keep an eye on the CPU usage!) Oh…(I almost forgot) DON'T turn it back flat (normal position) or else all kinds of goofy shit will happen! LoL!

how would i get my low E string to detune down to drop D with pitch block?

When you say "Drop D", you are referring to a normal open tuning with the E (6th) tuned down to a D. This would only be possible on a 13-pin guitar and an effects processor (such as the VG-99) that accommodates custom, or Drop D tuning. Otherwise, as the above threads tell you, the result is...

    Over 90% is bad?

Are you referring to the jump into 18.01, or the small changes up to 18.07? Have you done a comparison by going back? The process of building any new FW revision may involve steps that inherently bump up or down the indicated CPU usage as an unintended consequence.
  37. carloszeke

    Over 90% is bad?

Absolutely. As I am approaching 75%, I'm starting to plan what compromises I might be up against to complete the preset. Most of the time I end up getting what I set out to accomplish when I hit 90%. Truth is, I have no complaints. FW18 always delivers, you just end up taking a different road to...

    Is this a stupid idea?

You guys brought up some good points. I didn't think this posting would go as far as it has. Thanks. Cliff, (and the FAS team)…any thoughts from you?
  43. carloszeke

    Is this a stupid idea?

Personally, I'd rather pay $100 for the CFW, as opposed to upgrading to XL+. Keep in mind, this idea was originally presented as a win-win for BOTH sides. I am absolutely sure FAS wouldn't go for it if they were not sure they could make some money. It's a 2-way street…like Cab-Lab, we love it...
  44. carloszeke

    Is this a stupid idea?

It is my guess that factory CABs are overwritten (by FAS) EVERY TIME a new FW is generated. (Mostly with the same data as on the previous FW) THAT is exactly why this idea may not work, because SOMETHING has to be written there as a part of the entire process. Only FAS can tell us if the build...
  45. carloszeke

    Is this a stupid idea?

Please explain. My situation can't be much different from a lot of users. I have collected, from various sources, enough user CABs to fill the available spaces in my MKII. In addition, I have 4 Cab Packs that are grouped, according to my likeness, on my hard drive. If I ever want to use one of...
  46. carloszeke

    Is this a stupid idea?

Rex, you bring up a good point. This idea could only work if the user understood that the CFW would be the version he would be stuck with from that point on.. Now, BNN also assumed that FAS could develop a relatively simple/cost effective process that adds a customers CABs to a FW build. (for a...
  47. carloszeke

    Is this a stupid idea?

Hey BBN, I like your idea even better than mine. The only thing is, if you never purchased any CAB packs, then you'd need a way to audition them, (on an individual basis), before buying. My user space has been full for a long time and I've bought 4 CAB packs that sleep on my hard drive. There...

    Is this a stupid idea?

I'm afraid I don't follow you. I thought most of the MarkII users were looking for a way to store more user CABs without upgrading to the XL.
  49. carloszeke

    Is this a stupid idea?

ATTN: NonXL users... Maybe this has come up before…. Ever since we had a firmware revision that added/changed factory CABS, I have wondered if FAS could develop an option for CUSTOM FIRMWARE. This would be nothing more than the current FW version with the factory CABS replaced with a list...

My XL Sounded Really Bad through a PA Today, Thats a New Experience!

This has happened to me before. It was obvious that a shitty quality PA was the cause. Unlike your situation, we had amps on the stage and decided to run vocals only through the PA. There are some benefits to small venue gigs. However, in your case, I really feel for you man…that must have SUCKED!

    CPU Hell

The gradual increase in tone quality that we've seen over the last 10 or 12 firmware revisions was a trade-off in the AxeFX's ability to process a well populated signal chain. Running 2 amps, 2 stereo cabs+ some effects is simply putting too much strain on the CPU. Most of the time, CPU usage...

Most of my gigs are outdoor at the seaside, sometimes within 30 feet of the waterline. The salty-humid air eats strings for breakfast. Maybe new AF2 owner... Mam, Dad, I'm so scared!!!

Don't worry about a thing. You can try factory presets and likely will be happy with them. Take the step! You won't regret it. The absolute worst thing that could happen is that you'll decide to sell it at 100% (or more!) of your original cost. (Nothing holds it's valve like an AxeFX!)

Turning off the Axe FX by pulling plug vs flipping switch?

In my opinion, No. It doesn't make a difference, however, it's a good idea to retain the ground, (switching the hot only) during and after switching, to provide a path for transient spikes. In addition, When loading new firmware, the capacitors need to discharge through the ground path before...
