    Speaker Thump gives me anxiety

I've been out of the loop on FW updates (and guitars in general) for a little while. My favorite sound depended on the old dynamic depth that went away. Would you kind folks say this effectively replaces it?

What's the Blinking Red Light Under the Fan Mount on the Motherboard of my Axe III MkII?

It's the "everything is ok" alarm. Edit: I'm only being half a smartass, microcontrollers sometimes have a "watchdog" status reporting light to indicate the processor hasn't locked up. At least the development kits I've worked with a while back have.

    Any EBMM owners?

I have a Majesty 7string. Cons: The mahogany neck does like to wander a bit depending on the season. On mine the open 7th string will fret out if I take it out during winter, and the last time I put it in the case was summer. But it only needs minor adjustment to get back in shape. The...

Problem with NVMe Drive (and overated?)

That's been my experience as well, even on brand new systems: the PCIx4 NVMe performance is overkill for most consumer applications, unless you're copying video a lot. The new games coming in the future that need to fill up the 24GB GPUs might benefit, who knows. I also wonder if the drivers and...

Problem with NVMe Drive (and overated?)

SSDs are fast on a fresh write, but writing to the same spot twice in a row can be slow, unless the TRIM command has been run (a.k.a. "Optimized" in Windows parlance). Random write logic is supposed to avoid most of this, but if you're low on space and not overprovisioned it can't do anything...

It's 2020, why can't we have a completely wireless set up?

For power, I'd vote on a funnel to capture spilled beer and route it to a fuel cell. For the comm protocol, I'd vote on something tcp-like with 2way handshaking to help guarantee message delivery.

    Axe-Fx III and Headphones

You might have a bad ground/common connection in the headphones, cable, or in the adapter. When the ground doesn't connect, you'll then hear a difference signal between the left and right headphone signals in both headphones, out of phase, between left and right. The common sound (typically...

    Axe-Fx III and Headphones

I've been using Dt880pro's for a number of years, from forum recommendations. And I just got some MixFi's last year, also from forum recommendations. 😁 The 880s feel relatively flat up top, with a reduced, but gradually tapered, less resonant, low end. I feel like I can trust the high end and...

    Noob question: JC-120 amp

Me too. My clean doubleverb patch through headphones with cabsim sounds remarkably like the same patch through the jc120 without the cabsim. I tried a iic+ patch with cabsim on through the jc120... Didn't work so well. The JC just has its own tone.

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 6.02, Axe-Edit 1.01.09 and FC Firmware 1.08

Correction: I added the pitch modifier back from within 6.02 and the AXE locked up again. It looks like you (Chris/Fractal/jcfiallos) already have a test case, but I'll attach my preset as well. Thanks to whomever is looking into this.
  17. S

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 6.02, Axe-Edit 1.01.09 and FC Firmware 1.08

I'm having the same issue: Pitch modifier attached to the frequency control in the filter block. Locks up the AXE when I load that preset. Getting rid of the modifier (in 6.01), and upgrading to 6.02 works.

Guitar picking up electric noises when turning on PC

Unfortunately, it's "normal" for your guitar to pick up those noises through the pickups (and it's not specific to the Axe). The real issue is PCs don't often have shielded/metal cases to reduce emitted interference anymore. I'm currently shopping for a case that does NOT have smoked glass...

    Vocoder anyone?

Does anyone have experience with the vocoder in the Axe3 (specifically)? I'm noticing a LOT of the "analysis" signal is ending up mixed in with the carrier signal. FAT Switch is totally different than Axe-Fx ll

The recto present in the III has cut enabled (at least mine does). The last set of presets I installed in the II had it off. I'd imagine having the cut on would make the fat switch seem to be more of a bright boost. Sorry I'm not near Axe to test the theory.

A call to Extended Range Bass Fretless Players!

To add to #3: The harmonizer also seems to have tracking issues with bass, especially below the A of a standard 4 string bass. Maybe Cliff can implement a "bass mode" for those blocks someday. It's been improved for guitar, latency-wise, for the Axe III.
  30. S

Wow! It really does sound better...

I agree, there's an improvement in feel, as hard as it is to quantify. I just upgraded my Axe II to 10.x a week or two ago, which was an improvement in itself in the tone department (to something that already sounded fantastic). Still the III has more "punch" to it. I haven't remade all my...

[solved] Crackle noise when using EV-1 or EV-2 as volume pedal MFC-101 to Axe-Fx III

It sounds like it could be MIDI RF noise coupling into the signal path. Maybe try separating the MFC's MIDI cable away from your instrument cable. It's happened a few times for me with other equipment and moving to shielded MIDI cables helped, but your mileage may vary.

    New 18.00 Public Beta

I think that particular "USA PRE LD2 RED" model did not have the shift in 17.04. I figured it was because of the "conventional power amp" in the release notes. Now it's less conventional. :) Either way, it sounds pretty awesome, I just had to tweak my patch a bit here and there to get the...

FW15 - Convinced there is something awry with the Dizzy models

Just a few things I've noticed (and were mentioned in the v15b thread): 1) FWIW, the Herbie & Dizzy default to high CF Comp values now. At least on the VH4, you can lower that and get more predictable SAT switch behavior. Maybe you wont like it. But, like jlynnb1, I'm also trying to imagine...
