    AX8 vs Helix

It’s not a “policy”—I point that out pretty clearly when I state: Yes, if you are asking whether or not I question the vailidity of random anonymous opinions...yeah I definitely do. If you have the wherewithal to yap on a forum then you have the wherewithal to post your playing and tone...

    AX8 vs Helix

Why on earth would I want to? Although I haven’t owned an AX8 I did use an AXEIIXL daily for 2yrs. I’m not “against” people choosing a Fractal product, I am “against” mediocre at best yet needy for attention “players” swaying anyone’s opinions on a high end purchase just because they want some...

Press record, post the results and let everyone listen to the tone for themselves. Talking about guitar tone without posting examples of your guitar tone is the strangest accepted practice there is on these boards.

    AX8 vs Helix

And I am always amazed at how some folks want to talk about music and tone with words lol. The problem with some of those opinions is how they are presented. And they are presented that way for just the effect they receive. “I can’t believe everyone can’t hear it”, “if it’s good enough for...

    AX8 vs Helix

Well, I was responding to a direct comment by @chris by letting him know there are blind tests lol but it isn’t about “right or wrong”. That discussion without full interaction is akin to having a debate about who’s favorite color is “best”, And most here on the interwebs with the strongest...

    AX8 vs Helix

Sorry, I did not want to get into a "best" discussion. Those are stupid. I own tens of thousands of dollars in non Fractal gear--different tools work for different applications. I say that no one can discern one from another because I have had Fractal guys swear up and down about some weird...

    AX8 vs Helix

Why on earth would I do that? I dial in my tones how I like.
  9. tallcoolone

    AX8 vs Helix

My point is that there is no underlying "sound" that enables anyone to discern one box from the other. I've played both of them for hundreds of hours both live and at lower volume. Of course this is the Fractal forum so Fractal is "best", which is fine for fan boy purposes but in real life...

    AX8 vs Helix

That was my Lemon Song video @pat6969 posted. I played the Axe pretty much exclusively at home and at bi-monthly gigs for about 2yrs and have been doing the same for the last 6mos with the Helix. I find it difficult to believe that you guys can actually discern one of these boxes from the other.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.00 Firmware Release

Reading the release notes I'm wondering if this might be one to skip...any significant improvements or benefit aside from the new bass OD? Ive never touched an advanced parameter so I'm thinking a new "speaker compression" knob will get virtually rusty on my box lol

Jimmy Page Royal Albert Hall prest ?

I definitely haven't found a decent RAH Page tone in the AXE. Not the Dano specific tone, but the whole show. WGG off of the Coda album is a pretty solid example. I've been begging for a Page Custom Hiwatt in the Wish section for years now haha. It really is a unique tone and not achievable...

HELP!! AxeFxII doesn't boot anymore - SOLVED

Almost all of that Furman stuff is pretty much useless. People buy it thinking that it is doing one thing but unfortunately it just doesn't. It doesn't "monitor power", it doesn't "condition power", it doesn't "regulate power", and as we see here, it cant even protect your gear as well as a...

I have owned the Axe Fx 2 XL+ for a year, and I am still not satisfied with the tone.

Is The Edge going with Axe FX for the new tour?

Was your friend backstage with the band or in the crowd making a guess? Are the amps props? AXE for backups maybe? Or a few certain songs/effects? No reason other than curiosity I suppose but it would be cool to pull up a particular song on YouTube and hear what a wizard like the Edge can...

    Atomic CLR problem

Wow I had no idea so many CLR owners were experiencing defective units/'intermittent' problems. Great to hear Cliff getting into the monitor game.

    dB Technologies ?

Thanks man! Anyone out there who has tried one out with an AXE? Heard them in person? Seen one? Plenty of info everywhere I turn on the CLR, I take it you own one? As I mentioned, I saw this on CL so it will not be full price.

Front panel adjustment on the fly

I've had this discussion with a few members here and I (think I) disagree. I have owned at least 50 tube amps and prob gigged with several dozen. Guys, I need help

Since I started this thread I've had a little over an hour to spend with a guitar. I spent that yesterday d!cking around with the PEQ and hi/lol cuts in the cab block to see if I could learn a bit more about them. Ugh.

    Guys, I need help

Running the AXE direct into it and using it as a reference monitor for me alone--usually on the floor in front of me but occasionally I'll throw it on a pole. The EQ options are nice for acoustic guitar but I found that they added too much noise when used with the AXE. I've had this same issue...

I am discarding advice that does not take into account the parameters I have already laid out. There are plenty of people here who are able to get their heads around what I am asking for help on. Papaflann just did a few posts above. It's not that hard to grasp what I am asking. Dude.

    Guys, I need help

'Amp in the room' is not something I miss at all with the AXE. Actually, even when I use tubes I rarely hear the guitar speaker--at home I run them through my studio monitors and on stage I am mostly hearing stage monitors.
  42. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

When I mic a tube amp I turn it up and it sounds great. That's what I do--I put the mic in front of the speaker and turn the volume up. Always sounds like the tone I had at lower volumes, just more compressed. No matter what speaker or cab I am using. That good. With my AXE, I dial in amazing...

    Guys, I need help

I'm really hoping you are right and what I've learned here will help me cut out these frequencies. Thanks
  44. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

No. The issue is that with a tube amp compression happens automatically when the volume knob is turned. I'm sure you are technically correct and there is an adjustable parameter that will account for this somewhere in the Fractal GUI. Is it really that difficult to wrap your head around that on...

You know man, I like it. I'll give it a shot this weekend. Thanks!
  46. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

If I am going to be satisfied with one tone, I'm going to go with a tube (fysical lol) amp. If I am going to continue to use the AXE, I want to be able to change up my tone every week if I want. Without having to set aside a day and rent studio space. Sorry if that sounds silly to you.
  47. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

Sorry man--this doesn't make any sense at all
  48. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

Again, I am not sure that you are listening to what I want to do with the AXE. I want to be able to change my core tone from week to week. I am not interested in nailing down one sound that I will use for months at a time. IMO that diminishes the draw of the unit--to be able to experiment...
  49. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

Thank you sir--that is a great idea with the headphones, never thought of that. Maybe they represent my amplified tone which would solve a...
  51. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

I do hear that a lot and appreciate the recommendation but I am definitely not in a mindset where I want to throw another $1500 into this rig. I've used several different monitors live--the Stagesource I have now keeps feedback down on small stages, makes a great acoustic amp on it's own and...

    Guys, I need help

    Guys, I need help

That isn't what I am doing--we just did three gigs in 2 weeks, now we don't play again until the end of August. I dialed in the newer 6550 Marshall for the last three shows, and normally I'd try out something else when we get to the next one. I'm not talking about switching amps and cabs 'in...

    Guys, I need help

Ahh, the 'tough guy' lol. Dialing in patches on a computer is not 'my craft'...dude I have a job that takes up much of my week--when I have 'guitar time' it is 50m after 9:00 at night in a city apartment. Not sure what you are having trouble getting your head around but what I am saying is...
  57. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

Thanks all. No my band doesn't rehearse at all, we've been together long enough. And even if we did, I want to be able to experiment with different types of tones for different shows, not nail down "my tone" and never have to mess with it. If that were my goal, I'd just play out of an amp...
  58. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

Thank you very much. This is the closest thing I've seen to a simple explanation. Just because I play the guitar doesn't mean I want to know what number frequency I need to adjust or what a Q width is.
  59. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

Yes I suppose you've hit the nail on the head, which is why I'm contemplating moving on. It's quite simply a time issue for me.
  60. tallcoolone

    Guys, I need help

Yeah that's been my MO for the past 18mos or so but like I said, one of my favorite aspects of the AXE is the ability to go from one amp to another. I don't want to have to invest weeks in order to dial in a tone I'm happy with. The 'trial and error' part is my issue and at this point what may...

    Guys, I need help

Been using the AXE II since I picked it up a couple of years ago and for the most part I love it. I've NEVER had a more enjoyable and incredible sounding home rig that's for sure--the tones I get at reasonable volume through my KRK monitors is just fantastic. My problem is that live the user...
  62. tallcoolone

    Sigh... gig failure.

If I were having issues like the ones explained by the OP or cujo I would be on the phone with Fractal, not whining here. The #1 reason I personally use the Fractal is consistency and reliability. Take that away and this rig is a $3k paperweight.
  63. tallcoolone

Strange post...you find that 99% of the presets sound the same? Do you own an AXE FX?

Stock vs Commerial Cabs (and where to start)

You don't sell anything? You have a clickable ad below every post you make. I have no issue with it but let's not get too comfy hiding behind semantics lol. I probably have at least 200 IRs on my computer now of some sort of Celestion speaker and Marshall type 4x12...and I'm not hunting them...
  65. tallcoolone

Stock vs Commerial Cabs (and where to start)

I think you are misevaluating the demand significantly. Judging by what others--essentially hobbyists--are charging for this I have to think Mutt Lange is gonna pass unless he can put more than a couple of $20 bills in his pocket.
  66. tallcoolone

Stock vs Commerial Cabs (and where to start)

I spend zero time tweaking--I have 4-5 stereo UR cabs that I know I like and switch between those when I look for a new tone. If the amp I'm trying doesn't 'hit me' right in the first minute or two I'm moving on to something else. There are 200 and something amps plus how many stomp boxes and...
  67. tallcoolone

Front panel adjustment on the fly

IMO this is one of the few drawbacks of going full bore with the AXE. Tube amps are easy--if you have a great low volume tone, it ALWAYS sounds 'better' when you turn it up. Not the case with modeling--a great low volume tone can be piercing or boomy when turned up. AXE is no different. And with...
  68. tallcoolone

Stock vs Commerial Cabs (and where to start)

I can only speak for myself, but I just feel it's not needed. It's not like the older cabs are 'lower quality' and it's not like there aren't a plethora of choices in the box already. Whenever I start to try and compare more than 2 or 3 IRs for a preset the differences just get fuzzy anyway...

Vaping in front of your axe fx

Sorry man, not buying this at all. As mentioned before, guitar amps have been spending their entire lives in smoky rooms for decades. Sounds like you dislike smoking in general and that's obviously your prerogative, but I'm going to call BS on your 'lots of electronics ruined by smokers and fog...

Fractal Audio AMP models: Hipower (Hiwatt DR103)

Love my AXE to death, but not a fan of this model for some reason--I'd love to see it re-worked (not sure if it has been since it was first modeled) and a few other Hiwatts added (JP!)
  73. tallcoolone

    Same problem again

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" 2.00 Public Beta Numero Tres

Understand what you are saying but how often really is there a game changing bug fix in a new FW? Faster patch changes won't effect your studio/album work...you have your tones dialed in so CPU usage isn't an advantage either. If your tones are dialed in to pin point accuracy exactly as you need...

What should I Put In 4U My Rack? 4CM

It's made by Eaton and costs around $900 I think. Power sure 800 I believe is the model?
  93. tallcoolone

What should I Put In 4U My Rack? 4CM

What you are saying is correct but the issue is that these Furman/Monster units do nothing at all about these problems. As I mentioned, I have a voltage regulator but it sure didn't cost $200 at guitar center and it sure doesn't fit in a 1u rack space. I don't mean to hijack the thread but if...
  94. tallcoolone

What should I Put In 4U My Rack? 4CM

Not likely--as you can see here in this thread folks do not like to hear that the $250 they spent on 'protection' was a waste of money. The stage lights and add'l outlets are very convenient though, I agree there. But if you read the fine print on any of these Monster/Furman units you will...

  96. tallcoolone

What should I Put In 4U My Rack? 4CM

The thing is, all 'power conditioners' can do for you is to protect against surges. I have an Eaton voltage regulator that indeed does more than this but I am assuming you are talking about one oftheFurman $100-$400 units? If so, you can get the same piece of mind from any power strip with a...

I play the AXE live all the time and these guys are on the money about adjusting the EQ from home listening level to a live situation. We tend to over exaggerate the highs and lows at lower volume and this can translate to a pretty piercing tone if not accounted for. That being said, I don't...
