    Firmware expectations???

I beg to differ. The upgrades are factored into the purchase price and are a key selling feature of the unit. They are far from free and are indeed expected.
  2. S

    Firmware expectations???

And what if you didn't want to change your tubes but wanted the new amps or other features? In the real world, you can buy another amp and the tubes in your existing amps don't change. :)

    So what's next?

Don't we already have that? I think the unit would be complete if it could make me a sandwich.

Thanks for the clarification, Lance. I'm intrigued. Are these generally available now or is there a wait list?

    too much bass!

    Gotcha, thanks Adam!
  7. S

Retro Channel has landed - first impressions

Hmmm...significantly more expensive than the Matrix, much lower wattage, and it sounds like you have to disable the power amp models in the Axe. The latter part seems like it would limit the versatility of the Axe, no?
  8. S

    too much bass!

I must respectfully disagree on this assessment. Even with the reference mic or the 57, there is a ton of low end. It's all good, though, because it's surely easier to get rid of it than it is to add it if you don't have it in the first place. :)
  9. S

    too much bass!

Going FRFR, yes, there is far too much low end by default. Things mentioned above like proximity, low cut, etc, all help. It can be a muddy mess if you're not careful. Just use your ears and dial out the low end until it sounds natural. Don't trust your eyes.

    Matrix and 412 cab questions

It does help, Matt. Thanks for that info! You may want to include that spec in your manual. As soon as I get the cash together, I'm going for a GT1000 and a 412 "uberkab" configuration from Avatar, wired stereo or mono.

When is the AXE edit version compatible with V7 due?

I'm confused. Then what was the version that just came out 3 days ago for? And why does it have all the new V7 functionality in it?
  12. S

When is the AXE edit version compatible with V7 due?

Um...it's already here, right? As of Aug 6th. I downloaded it last night and all the new amps were there, and the dynamics worked as expected.

    Matrix and 412 cab questions

Matt, If my 412 cab is 4ohm or 16ohm mono, what's the best way to run the GT1000 with it? I normally balk at 16 ohm because I've always associated that with a "brighter" sound. Can it run 4ohm mono?
  14. S

    Matrix and 412 cab questions

Hmmm...I just saw that the GT1000 is 1U AND it is of sufficient wattage to push just about anything. Maybe that answers both of my questions?

    Matrix and 412 cab questions

I'm considering getting one of the Matrix power amps and one or two cabs. Probably a 412 and maybe a 212 in addition for smaller gigs. For use with a 412 cab with something like 270 watts at 8 ohms (mono) or 135 watts side (stereo...don't know ohms), what is my best option from Matrix? The 2U...

Mission Pedals or Boss FV-500L ...??

I find it works very well. Nice and smooth travel. The Mission pedal has a jerky type motion to the pot that just doesn't work for me. I'm used to optical wahs like the Bad Horsie where the travel is nice and even.
  19. S

    Look who's onboard...UK Fusion-Maestro Tom Quayle!!!

I hate it when you can hear pick/string noise over the main tone. It sounds pretty good...I think? Never heard of the guy. Seems like a cool player.
  20. S

Mission Pedals or Boss FV-500L ...??

Understandably, this isn't a scientific poll but it sure is telling when a generic expression pedal seemingly beats out one that was, as I understand, first created to meet the needs of Axe-Fx users. I wonder what the folks at Mission will do to their product line in response, if anything?

V6 firmware: Time to Release the Monster - Speaker Resonance Page

Know you're busy, but could you give us guitarists (read: non-techies) the general gist of how to use this page of parameters? I generally don't go beyond the amp knobs and EQ. If this is useful to getting a good sound while going direct, it would be cool to understand. Otherwise, I'll just...

  24. S

Mission Pedals or Boss FV-500L ...??

I've had both and I prefer the Boss. The Missions don't have the smooth travel that the Boss do, and they don't have as large of a range. Boss has better build quality and a far smoother travel.

Limelight preset - for your enjoyment

You're welcome. I would guess the difference in our pickups and guitars probably account for some of the tweaking you must do for it to work with yours. It's why I hate sharing patches. :) I almost never get anyone else's to sound as good as they do. But at the same time, I do learn a lot...

Exactly How much better is a RCF NX12SMA over a QSC K12 ?????

The K12 has modes for vocal (scooped) and Flat which indicates it can be used for either purpose and has been designed with flat response in mind.

Exactly How much better is a RCF NX12SMA over a QSC K12 ?????

I own a K12 and I find it to be quite the opposite. Then again, I've not compared it to an RCF. But compared to similar 12" floor wedges from EV and Mackie, it comes out far ahead. Here's the thing with all this discussion of FRFR solutions. You might get your rig sounding awesome on stage...

Perfect lead tone!! We need this amp to be model....

I was going to say the exact same thing. I guess great tone is in the ear of the listener. His playing is tasty, the tone is just okay. Nothing special that couldn't be accomplished through most modelers. I have the distinct impression that this is some kind of dirt pedal.

Is the Big Hair amp based on the ADA MP1???

Introduced in 1987. Most 80's Hair bands didn't use it. But I'm sure the unit was in response to demand for "that sound". I think of Vito Bratta whenever I hear one.

Can POD HD500 do a PA/ Cab split like Axe FX? (yes, line 6 advice haha!)

That's just insulting. Both to members of that forum and this one. Many of the players here use or used Line6 gear. It's a bit disingenuous to say that anyone using Line6 gear has a pea brain. There are a lot of helpful people on that forum too that definitely could have answered your...

An Axe-Fx II with the 4CM seems the perfect setup, but all that AD/DA/AD??

This went fantastically! Our bass player came over and thanked me for bringing a real amp back on stage and for using "real pedals" with it. LOL! I pointed at the Axe and said, "That's where those 'real pedals' live." Every now and then I GAS for analog dirt pedals. This cured the GAS. Not...

An Axe-Fx II with the 4CM seems the perfect setup, but all that AD/DA/AD??

I did the same tonight with my Mesa. Sounds amazing! So much that I'm going to try it tomorrow instead of going direct to the FOH. It was an absolute breeze to get set up. With no effects enabled, I couldn't tell the difference between 4CM and plugging right into the front of the amp. Very...

Looked for a good Limelight patch, didn't find something that worked for me. Most of the others seem to rely on the amp alone. I understand Alex used an MXR Distortion+ into a clean Hiwatt. You can really hear the soft clip of the Germanium diodes in the recording, especially the solo tone...

V6 firmware: Time to Release the Monster - Speaker Resonance Page

I've given this a try at gig volume...actually maybe a bit louder than normal gig volume for how I play...and it sounds okay. What I notice is that there is a slight rolloff of the highs, the mids are a smidge less prominent, and the bass is slightly less. Other than that, I don't really...

Axe into front of clean tube amp - anyone else?

You should try the amp sims, Bobby. Just make sure power amp is off and you might turn the bright switch off on the sim if it's too peaky. The drive pedals are great into the front, but wow...the amp sims too...or BOTH!

Axe into front of clean tube amp - anyone else?

Everything sounds great into the front of my amp. :D Seriously, it's a great little amp (Mesa Express 212 combo) with a wonderful clean channel. I've been running pedals or MFX into it for years, all with good results. Tried the Axe into the return, and it's good for sure, but magic happened...

Frustrated to the point of putting it all for sale

I don't think that's really the problem. It's more like, "Because I'm a guitarist and only care about the end result, the gear should be as easy to use as what I'm used to using: amp and pedals." Many coming from that kind of rig or from simpler MFX with more intuitive interfaces (GT-100...

nice! soon to join the roster?

Scotty probably wants Alex to ditch the gigantic rack of stuff. Can't say I blame him. Probably a nightmare to maintain. Plus, two Axe's (one for backup) reduces the overall cost of the rig and cartage fees. What's not to like?
  65. S

I/O Instrument Input set to 28% for Les Paul...is this what others are experiencing

Mine is set the same way, but both the L and R LEDs light up on input 1. Does that seem right? I've seen videos where only the L LED is lighting for people. And yes, I have to max the input trim to 100% for all of my humbucker equipped guitars and the reds only light if I strum extremely hard.

Static IR versus The new dynamic IR?

Axe II into Mesa Express effects return

Got it, now it all makes sense. Given how my amp works and that unity gain is apparently so easy to achieve with the II, I kinda have this idea about treating the Axe like a big pedalboard straight into the clean section of my amp. I realize that might not be typical, but I can imagine...

Axe II into Mesa Express effects return

From the manual, it says: "To operate with unity gain, simply set the Output Level knobs to maximum. If you then route shunts from the input to the output you will get out exactly what you put in." So, that doesn't sound like it's a +20 dBu boost in volume. Am I reading that wrong? Is the...

So, are you saying that just going from Output 2 into the return of the Mesa that I should be able to get quite a bit of volume? That's encouraging! Yeah, the Express amps' master is disabled when you run into the return directly. The "master" volume knobs on each channel have no effect...

Axe II into Mesa Express effects return

I have an older Express 5:50 2x12 combo that I love. For those not familiar, the amp has two channels - each with a "master" volume that feeds the effects loop. If you run a modeler into the effects return of the amp, bypassing the preamp, you also bypass the master volume. Put a different...
