    Should I buy a '65 Fender Strat ?!

I went through a period 15 years ago when I had a lot of vintage guitars. Fenders and Gibsons. They are much more than guitars - they are collector items, they are sort of historical documents, they are close enough to hand made to have all kinds of variations. They are in a way works of art...

Is the Axe II still worth it in 2022 for bedroom player

I just rebought the AxeFX 2 since I last had one maybe 8 years ago if not more. It’s still in transit. I’ve been gigging 10 years straight now and I’ve tried all kinds of real amps and modelers - just a cover band playing around town. I’ve learned that form factor is #1 and then price and sound...

How's FM3 as an audio interface?

What is the round trip latency in Reaper (or Ableton etc) you are getting using FM3 as the interface with the buffer at 128 and a sample rate 48k? I'm debating getting the FM3 and using it as my main interface. The MIDI in/out also functions with your DAW - in other words you can connect a synth...

FM3 or Line 6 HX Stomp as multi FX

I've owned the AxeFX II, the III briefly, and the AX8. I think they are all great. I've owned the Helix, the HX Stomp (still have), the Kemper Profiler, the Atomic Amplifire (a few models), the Avid 11 Rack, the Mooer and some Zoom and Boss stuff (still have the GT1000). Before covid, I'd been...

FM3 sounding better through headphones than monitors

I've always preferred modelers through headphones. A lot of guys don't. I also like listening to music through headphones. I've had the Axe 2 and Axe 3 and I absolutely love the engulfing experience of headphones when using them.

FM3 or Line 6 HX Stomp as multi FX

I just got my FM3 invite and I'm really on the fence about it, given that I have the Stomp and it fits in my gig bag. For me, fitting in the gig bag is a really big deal when it comes to gigs and rehearsals, which combined are only about 5 times per month, but still.... I love the Fractal...

Poll: Where do you use your Axe-Fx III mostly?

I'm surprised by the wait for FC to go live. I use a little 6 button midi switch box to do all I need live. Clean, dirty, delay, phaser, compressor. I know some people have big pro gigs - but I think most people can fully enjoy their Axe with a smaller controller live.

  14. RalphNYC

Could an FX8 be used to control the III (limited control) ?

Not really designed for full on midi controller purposes. You use midi blocks - like a drive block or delay block that can be turned off and on. The off and on states will send a PC and/or CC command. Something like the Morningstar MC6 or the RJM Mastemind Lite would be better midi controllers...

Yes I miss the metronome as well. Especially liked it when using the LOOPER block but also just in general it is a great practice tool including at band rehearsals. I loved being able to activate it with a midi button

Odd Idea for Basic MIDI Control for AFX III

Axe-Fx III wait list: Let us know when you get notified...

No massive learning curve. You start with the first preset when you turn it on. You click down on the big knob to look at your blocks. You arrow over to the drive and turn it on. You go over to the delay and turn it on. You come back to the forum and try to find the words. Easy

Any FC release time info ?

Hmm, there's nothing else going on with my setup. Only that parameter. I haven't had any trouble with delayed switching. My biggest trouble is getting my foot and hands to be perfectly on the beat, which is why I wish there were a quantize option on the looper with a metronome.

Any FC release time info ?

It's the Switch Senstivity parameter in the main configuration page (when you first boot up and hold down D+F). That needs to be a higher value (less delay) rather than lower. Any FC release time info ?

It was very simple to configure the MC6 to control the looper. I got confused for a bit as I didn't see the DUB function in the midi assignment screen, and then I realized the looper has been rewritten to just incorporate DUB into RECORD which is easier anyway. So to do a new layer you just use...

  25. RalphNYC

Any FC release time info ?

I wouldn’t worry about the new version of the MC6, as I think it’s highly unlikely that anyone would care about the extras it comes with. If you’re a midi fanatic, then yes. But if you want a gig-bag size switcher for scenes, blocks, x/y, and presets (and more) just get a used original version MC6.

Recommendations on economical setup, suitable for the weekly jam

I have a 10” powered monitor and I can’t even turn it half way up with my 5 piece rock band which has 2 singers, keys, bass, drums and 2 guitars. So I wouldn’t worry about that. I use a Yamaha DBR10 and it’s stupid loud if needed.
  28. RalphNYC

Recommendations on economical setup, suitable for the weekly jam

Sell the amp and the 4-12. Buy a nice powered FRFR monitor, either 10" or 12" speaker. Then you'll be able to play at home with low volume through the Fractal into this FRFR monitor, or bring the fractal and monitor to any size gigs and play as loud as you want.

    MFC Tuner sensitivity

I just got an MFC, and I don't mind the tuner function on it at all. It's not as good obviously as the AxeFX but good enough for gigs. I also have an Morningstar MC6 that communicates with the tuner on the AxeFX and that is really bad. So coming from that to the MFC was a nice surprise actually.

  37. RalphNYC

New Line 6 FRFR cab - Powercab

I don't really get it. An FRFR that stores the impulse responses is a cool idea - and you might as well extend that to have the monitor store high quality reverbs, mods, and delays while you're at it. But does anyone need the faux guitar cab feature in this?

  43. RalphNYC

AFIII The III does a very chill Sugaree

I would go further and say this is true of all the greats - including Clapton, the 3 Kings, Eddie, Stevie, Jerry, Jimmy H and Jimmy P, Gilmour, Yngwie. It’s not the notes but the pockets they create. It’s the pocket that moves you - every time.
  44. RalphNYC

    AFIII To All The Pundits

This is f#@cking cool! The variation between those 4 is equal to the variation one would hear with any fixed amp - just from picking attack and where the strings are hit.
  45. RalphNYC

So far I'm not entirely sold on the Axe Fx 3....

Basically it comes down to one camp of "super users" that is already pushing the limits of their II and see the III as opening up a lot of new options for them, another camp that simply enjoys the "ride" of all the new updates (some of these people may also be super users), and a last camp that...

Pedal controlling 2 blocks in 1 preset

I think the whole controller/modifier aspect of the AxeFx is sort of mind bending. There are so many possibilities. Yes I've got it set to cc#16 right now for EXT CTRL 1 and I have that modifying my WAH block. Pedal controlling 2 blocks in 1 preset

That’s great thank you for detailing that. I get the idea and the approach. Are amp blocks necessary?

That is a great sound! I can easily hear that working beautifully for a Strokes sort of vibe. I'm sorry I just can't get over this. The quality of sounds, and the variety, and the effects. It's overwhelming in a (good) way I did not experience with my Kemper or Atomic machine
