FW11 IIC+ vs Mark V-IIC+ - Not getting good results (Solved)

If I understand the original post correctly, the slave out into the Axe was the preferred sound. So if there was a problem in his signal chain, wouldn't correcting it just further improve the tone/feel of the Mark V over the Axe model? I'll be curious to see..

FW11 IIC+ vs Mark V-IIC+ - Not getting good results (Solved)

I have had pretty much the same experience, Sean. Difference in feel, attack, and distortion character. The single notes, in particular, sound slightly thinner. The closest I've gotten is running into the Mark V FX return. It's just not quite the same. I notice the pretty much the same...

    bare knuckle pickups???

I've got a Nailbomb set in my Strandberg. Very versatile pickup! Coil-Splits well, dynamic, and cleans up with the volume knob. I play (or at least toy around with) most styles of music. It always sounds great!

Loving my AC30 tones with V7!

Sorry... I honestly didn't even save the patch. It was so easy to make I wasn't concerned. Its so easy to get great tones these days with the Axe-FX II!

Loving my AC30 tones with V7!

Thanks guys! I just started with a blank patch and tweaked pretty lightly to taste.

Loving my AC30 tones with V7!

I had only played though my power amp & cab since V7's release. I'm really digging my clean direct tones even more now too! Just a basic Ac30 patch with some delay..

Anyway to preserve 6.02 tones in 7?

I feel the same. Very drastic change, probably for the better. But, I was also completely happy with a couple patches. Any hope of tweaking them back?

Axe-fx Crackling with longer USB cables.

Yes it was the cable. Problem solved. Running a 15ft now with no issues.

Axe-fx Crackling with longer USB cables.

Thanks for the info. Probably just a quality issue. That was my suspicion, but just wanted to make sure.

Axe-fx Crackling with longer USB cables.

Hmm. I guess it could be my cables.. I've tried a couple though... Any settings or maybe a higher quality cable may be in order? To be clear. I can use Axe Edit just fine.

Axe-fx Crackling with longer USB cables.

I've had no problems recording or playing with monitors with short (2-3ft) USB cables. But with longer (10ft +) I have crackling and noise issues. I just want to be able to record while keeping my axe connected to the rest of my rig and sitting atop my 4x12. Is it possible to use longer USB...

    6.0 vs 5.07

6.0 made the Axe-Fx so much more usable for me. Having owned or play a large number of the real amps, I REALLY appreciate how much truer the models are (both in sound and control response). I have always been a big Mesa/Boogie user and only since 6.0 have I been able to get precisely accurate...

1st attempt at Tone Matching.....Unchained....no FX!!!!

I can confirm that! I'm glad I didn't have to be the first. I see the same thing.
  15. J

    Tuner... Grrr

I know people have probably already brought this up. Since 6.0 I can't tune reliably at all. So jumpy, erratic and inconsistent that it is effectively inaccurate. I always have to tweak it by ear after. I'm sure it will be fixed soon, but any suggestions in the mean time?

More reverb + a tiny bit of very slow flange

Am I the only one who noticed that some amps have ALOT more gain?

I agree. Having spent a ridiculous amount of time with lots of the real versions of the amps modeled, everything actually seems much more logical to also me now. All the amp parameters seem to work much more like I'd expect them to. You'll get the hang of it.
  20. J

got everything Loaded , USA Lead 2 sounds well............

I'm not the AXE expert here. But resetting/re-tweaking will definitely work. I would actually agree that there is a bit less gain, the gain structure is much truer to the Mark IV or even Mark V (having them in my studio currently, I can attest to that for sure). That said, there is still plenty...

No longer simply too soon to speak… Simply Incredible!!

Yes it will be a different "itch" now. Only to explore new sounds. No longer just searching for something that wasn't there. Couldn't have expected this big of a jump!

No longer simply too soon to speak… Simply Incredible!!

So, I will consider this to be the conclusion to my ongoing review. In my previous review posts I described being overall very impressed by the Axe-Fx II, but still had a few concerns. I generally felt my good tube amp experiences were overall superior (if only a 5-10% difference). Simply...

6.0!!! Don't wanna speak too soon.. but holy @#$*

I actually noticed the opposite with my patches…. I think some of the modeling has been completely overhauled. I think you'll have to re-tweak the amp block to know for sure..
  24. J

6.0!!! Don't wanna speak too soon.. but holy @#$*

After a tiny bit of tweaking, I can literally switch back and forth between the Axe and Mark V now and forget which I'm playing. I could not do that before!
  25. J

    My first matching result

That sounds awesome. Keep in mind that the original is probably multi-tracked. So for it to sound identical it you would have to do the same (unless you already did that of course). Sounds perfectly acceptable as is to me, and you'll just get better at it! Awesome.

6.0!!! Don't wanna speak too soon.. but holy @#$*

I think it's already lived up to the hype. And I haven't even touched any of the really new features!! This is sick!

6.0!!! Don't wanna speak too soon.. but holy @#$*

I noticed that exact quality as well.

6.0!!! Don't wanna speak too soon.. but holy @#$*

I think this may have gotten us very close to closing the gap I've mentioned in my earlier reviews. Just a few seconds after downloading and trying out my presets, I notice some very significant improvements! Seems that all my concerns about the AXE have been addressed at least to some...

Followup Review from the Boutique Gear Snob.

I agree. I don't have much of a doubt that we will get near 100% very soon. If there weren't room for improvement, why would Cliff keep updating the amp modeling? However the last few % may soon be redundant. At this point both a great tube amp and the Axe II sound incredible and the gap is...

    CLIFF'S NEW 6.0 CLIP

I think Cliff should just go a year or so identifying clips in reverse. Then let people argue how the "real amp sounds better".. Then cause all their minds to explode by revealing the truth, and put an end to this nonsense once and for all! The differences are becoming so small that he...

Axe-FX II "Firmware Update Unknown" HELP

I'm running my Axe-FX II direct into iMac via USB. Shipped with 5.06 and I'm trying to upgrade to 5.07. I get "Firmware Update Unknown" error every time. I've read quite bit on solutions for the Ultra, but none of them seem to solve the problem for me. Anyone having this issue with their...

Followup Review from the Boutique Gear Snob.

I would again agree. Honestly, if money is not option. I would probably still have an Axe-Fx II. Its capable of some things that no vintage or modern high-end gear are... Maybe we'll have a "charming imperfections" parameter in the future..

Followup Review from the Boutique Gear Snob.

More agreement all around. I know its probably unreasonable, but I'd be in heaven if the Axe-Fx could clone with 100% accuracy and then tweak for improvements. Perhaps in the near future.

Followup Review from the Boutique Gear Snob.

I think some guitarists do aim for a rawer sound all the way. And I still agree with everything that has been said. Alot of the rawness and feel just contributes to my playing. I feel more at home and connected to the whole rig. When the time comes to record, I still want to have that feeling...

Followup Review from the Boutique Gear Snob.

I agree and really don't have anything actually negative to say about the Axe-Fx. As you and I pointed out, my concerns are actually positive for many! I'm not sure its worth posting comparison clips... Unless I consciously tried to make them sound different recorded they will sound far far too...

Followup Review from the Boutique Gear Snob.

I've spent most of my time running them with that very configuration. And it does make a tremendous difference. But the qualities I described are still just slightly present. Like I said 5-10% difference at most. But for years people have been paying serious cash for that extra something in gear...

Followup Review from the Boutique Gear Snob.

I've spent a bit over a month now with the Axe-Fx II. At this point, I had found myself sick of all the hassles of complicated setups and tempermental boutique gear. So, I consider myself to be very unbiased. I reeealy wanted (and still do if I can be proven wrong) the Axe-Fx to be my final...

The Illusion of "Grainy Digital" Sound

I agree. I have yet to find myself happy with a patch without spending an hour or two tweaking it. And I have to have separate patches for live and recording in order to be satisfied. Also with so many options to tweak, It is hard to know all of the ramifications of each adjustment. I often find...

The Illusion of "Grainy Digital" Sound

  45. J

The Illusion of "Grainy Digital" Sound

I have noticed that it is very possible to stumble upon sounds that are reminiscent of other digital modelers. These sounds often even possess the perceived imperfections that are often associated with modeling units I DO NOT believe that this is because the Axe-FX is, in fact, a digital...

-austinbuddy Thanks so much for that advice! I'll be sure to try it! -billmeedog When recording and with monitors I use cab sims. When running through my power amp (Cabs off) I sometimes use power amp sims and sometimes not. It really depends on what sound I'm going for. On amp...

Axe-fx II ultimately wins over another boutique gear snob!

I received my Axe-FX II about two-weeks ago. I must admit that I ordered it with a high degree of skepticism and imagined I that I would most likely return it within the 2-week period. I have been playing high end and vintage tube amps and constantly cycling through boutique effects pedals...
