I was a long time AxeFx II user and have recently picked up the FM9. I find myself constantly gravitating toward 4 or 5 amps. With the numerous amp options, I'm curious if there are some I'm missing out on. Of course, I'm working my way through trying them all, but I'd love some extra opinions...

Switching from VHT 2/50/2 to 6505+ as power amp

Regarding the level parameter in the Drive block...

Yeah, you guys nailed it. Thanks so much! This thing seriously blows my mind...Still learning!! Edit: For clarification, it was the lack of clean headroom mainly due to the Master Volume on the amp block being dimed.

Is it common to use reverb on high gain presets?

I use reverb on all my presets. Sometimes a little (~5% mix). Sometimes a lot. I think no reverb sounds weird haha

I've personally never experienced this with my Mark I (about 3 years old). I used both 5 and 7 pin cables without having anything like you mentioned...Sounds like something isn't right somewhere to me.

External Loop pedal..connecting to the axe

I only use my axefx into a poweramp and out of a cab, so I may not be a huge help here... I connect the output of my axefx to the input of my Boomerang looper, and the output of the Boomerang to the input of my poweramp.

Freeze not quite like the real thing?

I had the same issue. I ended up buying the Freeze pedal...It's pretty cheap new and holds its value pretty well on the used market too if Fractal can fully capture it at a later time.

AxeFX as preamp for a bass rig

I believe Nolly from Periphery uses an axefx 2 as a preamp in his bass rig with a Matrix poweramp into a 410. That power amp would work great for guitar as well...

output 1 volume level, GT1000FX volume level and mixer level

I'm not sure what the norm is, or if there is a "correct" method, but I generally keep the Axe output at around 3 oclock and adjust the gt1000fx to taste. I didn't notice a huge change in sound compared with running the Axe lower, but this gave me a good volume and full sound. Bruce

Loose power connection for pins 6 & 7 on the AxeFX

According to the Midi Raider manual, the power connection is 2.5mm ... Can anyone confirm what size the MFC's power adapter is? or what the Axe is expecting? It's not super loose...It works... Either way, thanks for the suggestion!
