Which OD to crunchify a clean channel?

I have a EVH 5150 III S and I'm trying to use the clean channel with an OD from my FX8 to get a nice crunchy tone; any recommendations towards this? I've tried TS808 + Fulltone OD dialed in different ways but not 100% happy with the results

yes, calibrated and the block goes to zero when in heel position. I remember I've had the same issue also on axe-fx II with a boss volume pedal; to me that simply means that there has to be some sort of offset parameter that I am missing :/

volume pedal on zero does not mute signal completely

I've calibrated my ev-1 pedal and added a volume block at the end of the chain. when I pull the pedal to 0 (heel position), it does not mute the signal completely, I can still hear a little of the guitar signal coming out of my cabinet. is there a settings that I am missing?

6505+ Relay switching cable

you will need a Y cable with 2 TRS connectors on one end and 7DIN on the other. TRS jacks go intro the relay1 and relay2 females on the FX8 and the 7din goes into the EVH, obviously.

just got an answer from an ENGL technician (regarding engl savage): "switching is working Sleeve (GND) to Ring and Sleeve (GND) to Tip." I'm not an technician, can anyone confirm this is short to sleeve?

that's a sweet amp. beautiful cleans, great crunch, nice reverb. I was never able to dig out a proper hi-gain sound with the saturation I wanted, but now with FX8 I've dialed in a tubescreamer in front and boy, it's brutal.

I'll double check about amp and FX8 being on the same circuit tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure they were last time I checked. Meanwhile, I've made my own humbuster cables, we'll see if that makes any difference. just FYI, the ground hum noise (when I muted the strings) was as loud as the hi-gain...

High gain amps sound flubby and muddy

yikes, 5153 Red with TS in front? :shock I've had a similar problem with SD Blackouts, none of the hi-gain amps seemed tight enough in the low-end. I've swapped them for passive pups and hi-gain amps became easier to dial-in. but anyway, try what everyone else suggested, try different IRs...

If you insist on using the cab simulations, then a powered PA monitor/wedge, atomic CLR or matrix FR212 are your options. just don't forget that the patches you have dialled in at home won't work well at higher volumes when playing with a drummer - you'll need to compensate and adjust...

Live tone pointers

definitely dial in your presets at a loud volume through your live rig. It will be quite different than through your monitors at home. I personally don't do any EQ, just a little low-pass filter for the high-gain tones to cut out some of the fizz.
