    Mojotone 7-string pickup demo - FW15.02 + UltraRes 4x12 Cab Pack 5!

In this video we demoed our new Mojotone Level Head and Classic 7-string pickups through our Axe-IIs with firmware 15.02 and a bunch of different IRs from Fractal's new Ultra-Res 4x12 cab pack. We tracked everything direct and the amp/IR combinations are all spelled out on screen. The new...

More Axe-FX II + Mesa Mark IV Metal Fury! Predecessor - Skin Deep

Thanks dude! I'm a product of 80's and 90's metal (Slayer, Pantera, REAL Metallica, etc.) so I'm all about some groove and classic riffing. I don't have anything against djent specifically, but there's certainly a lot of copycat generic drop-tuned crap floating around these days. I can't say...

More Axe-FX II + Mesa Mark IV Metal Fury! Predecessor - Skin Deep

The bass was actually recorded with an Ampeg SVT3. The bass tone is 100% the work of Jamie King at the Basement Studios and I think he ended up doing a blend of the SVT-3 and an amp sim plugin. Dude can dial in some gnarly bass! The Basement Recording NC

More Axe-FX II + Mesa Mark IV Metal Fury! Predecessor - Skin Deep

Here's another video of an instrumental version of a track from our new album. All guitars were recorded with an Axe-FX II with v12 firmware. The signal chain for rhythm guitars was an ESP NT-7 -> Duncan Distortion -> Axe FX-II (pre) -> Mesa Boogie Mark IV (power) -> Mesa traditional 4x12 ->...

Axe-FX II + Mesa Mark IV power = Seismic tones

I'm running the 6L6/EL34 combo (JJs). I've found that it tames the bottom end a bit. And I've tried various Dimarzios, EMGs, and a Bare Knuckle in this particular guitar, but nothing can touch the Duncan Distortion. It's attack and ferocity are unsurpassed in my travels.

Axe-FX II + Mesa Mark IV power = Seismic tones

The final product you're hearing ending up being the FAS 6160 v12 amp. I'd share, but the preset was specifically dialed in for using a Mark IV as a poweramp, and was tweaked quite a bit to suit the mic placement. The solos are the USA Pre Green direct through a custom blend of Ownhammer IRs...

v13 Firmware UltraRes 1hr Metal Challenge!

I'd read a lot of good things about the new UltraRes IRs and wanted to see if I could dial in a patch from absolute scratch + track/film, mix, and bounce a 1 min video within an hour. I gotta say it was not difficult at all to dial in some very satisfying tones. I only tried the select UltraRes...

Predecessor Album Teaser Video - Axe-FX II Crushing Metal Tones!

Haha....our drummer and singer are two different people (see below)! We had to cut the footage of our singer in after the fact because he was sick when we shot the video. I can understand the confusion though....they are both giant bearded ogres.

Predecessor Album Teaser Video - Axe-FX II Crushing Metal Tones!

The album is about 70/30 screaming and singing, these excerpts just so happened to be primarily the aggressive stuff. Definitely not screamo, just old fashion american metal. The most common comparison we get on the vocals is Phil Anselmo (good Phil...not heroine Phil). I come out of the...

Predecessor Album Teaser Video - Axe-FX II Crushing Metal Tones!

Check out this teaser video for our new album Through the Winter's Cold for some crushing Axe-FX II-driven metal. All guitars were recorded with an Axe-FX II with v12 firmware. The signal chain for rhythm guitars was an ESP NT-7 -> Duncan Distortion -> Axe FX-II (pre) -> Mesa Boogie Mark IV...

    Predecessor - v11 firmware w/ownhammer IRs

Predecessor - high gain v11 firmware w/ownhammer IRs This is a track from our upcoming album Through the Winter's Cold. All leads, cleans, and textures were tracked direct using v11 firmware and an assortment of Ownhammer and fractal stock IRs. Rhythm guitars were recorded using the Axe II as a...

One more piece of the puzzle to be solved, thinness of individual notes

A fair amount of "solving the puzzle" has to rest with the end user/player. Obviously the Axe II is more than capable of providing world class results that even the most critical pros are pleased with, but given the amount of variables it's never going to be a panacea for all situations.

    The scooped 5150 tone

There's a ton of discussion out there on this topic. Here's a couple of links. Agreed that it's going to primarily come down to finding the right IR. I know he uses a Waves C-4 multiband comp on the low/low mids to keep them tight. But it really comes down to mic placement and front end, hence...

    not worth £2000

Fifteen years as a recording engineer and purchases a guitar preamp/effects processor as his primary interface?? Oh and if the levels are too hot there is a volume knob on the front panel, as well as a level parameter in each block. I think the link below might be required reading. Check it out...

Can You Reamp Without DI Box(without using the USB Dry track feature)

This is slightly off topic and I think I know the answer, but is there any difference in quality between reamping via SPDIF vs USB, or any advantage of using one vs. the other in terms of sound quality? I'm using a reasonably high end SPDIF cable (Monster) and I'm guessing there's no difference...

    Get Yer 11.0 Beta Here!

Ahhhh, I gather the "b" is just referring to it being a beta version. I thought people were alluding to a second 'version' of the beta. My mistake. I've already installed it and have blisters on my fingers to prove it.

High gain drive (Envelope) Modifier - suggestions

I'm looking to setup an envelope-follower controlled modifier on the drive setting of the amp block on my high gain rhythm patches. I've found that I'm able to dial in the correct amount of gain to taste, however when playing part of songs which call for very aggressive picking and dynamicly...

Multiband Compressor - tightening the low end in high gain rhythm gtrs

I'd like to experiment with the multiband compressor in an attempt to tighten up the low end aspect of my tone for consistency throughout. I can address it later with the Waves C4 but feel like it might be better to go ahead and address it in the Axe to reduce the need for later processing. Any...

"Go-To" parameters for fine tuning top end in hi gain tone

Many thanks for the solid tips! I think much of my problem will be solved with a high cut in the cab block. Upon running a frequency analysis on my tone last night I found that most of the highs rolled off around 7-8k, but there was a lone spike out in the 10-12k range. I think this can be...

"Go-To" parameters for fine tuning top end in hi gain tone

I'm finding that I can't quite dial in the top end aspect of my tone to be where I'd like it. I like the feel of the preamp and IR models I'm using, and almost everything about the resulting tone is right where I'd like it. However I can not seem to dial in the amount of presence and treble that...

You can also send the direct out into your DAW via SPDIF and still have outputs 1 and 2 for your processed signal.

SPDIF DI out for reamping and SPDIF level issues? Signal too low??

OK thanks. However when I send the DI track out of my interface through SPDIF back into the Axe to reamp, the input level is much lower than the level when it comes from my guitar. Is this ok and should i then just compensate for that on the presets I am reamping through?

SPDIF DI out for reamping and SPDIF level issues? Signal too low??

I'm trying to capture the DI from my guitar while tracking using the SPDIF out but when i do so the level coming into my interface is low and I haven't seen any way to adjust for this on the Axe? Is there any way to increase the level of this out? Any other suggestions regarding the best way to...
