I disagree, regardless of how long you've used them, the built in preamp can be a problem to some people, I have transfer functions I've taken somewhere... It's why they feel the way they do anyway. I'm not saying you can't get pristine cleans, don't get me wrong, and backing the pickup off...

No amount of lowering the gain will remove it, it's compression from the built-in preamps. Try the 18V mod, should solve it straight away. They actually aren't that high output. It may not have been so bad before, but I like EMG's and that has always been the main reason I don't use them.

Recto lovers - come on in!

I use recto red modern a lot. I'd say always keep the gain around half or less. More can be fun but you get the best out of it about half way IMO. Turning the bass down etc doesn't make it feel any tighter like a Mark, use a boost, I like clean boosts with the lo cut turned up, but generally if...

FW11 IIC+ vs Mark V-IIC+ - Not getting good results (Solved)

I don't care if it feels the same as something else as long as it feels good. That said, the Axe Mark patches have always been a little different to the real thing to me. I'd be interested to try the settings tweaks suggested earlier in the case.

I reverted back to 10 and it wasn't every preset made with 11b that wasn't compatible, it was every damn patch I'd even scrolled over and it got completely wiped hahaha. Just a word of warning, make sure you're backed up.

These will replace an Active 7 string pickup like a 707, they don't make a 7 string passive humbucker size X-Bar. These are the 3.5" bars that replace active 7's or passive 8's. Thanks guys :)

OS X Driver Issue

I don't know if it's the issue you mean, but after extended use I start getting glitchy artefacts, the only way I know to recreate it is using a long cable or using the standard cable a long time. Changing the buffer rate in Logic solves it for a while. If this isn't the issue you mean then...

Amazing. My Cameron patches don't suddenly sound shit, they're everything I liked but seemed a bit more alive. The TX Star feels unbelievable with the mix impulses. This is just insanity.

Thank you! I forgot to mention that low C is a pitch shifted E from the Axe 2, was really really impressed with the result! Still sounds a little pieced together because the the adding and removing of latency but tone wise I'm really pleased. Thanks for the kind comment :)

I'm not bothered, I won't have time to play til Tuesday and I hate new firmware being out when I'm too busy to play with it. That said, I never really cared about firmwares before this thread. You lot have made me anxious for FW9.0 haha

Tips for Recto tone?

I have a great recto patch if you'd like it. It's slightly boosted - 808, gain at zero, tone and level at 6 so there isn't actually a gain increase The amp itself had a touch more input trim and bright I think, I use the classic 6/4/6 EQ on Red Modern (anyone who's ever looked at a recto owners...

Closest headphones to Atomic reactor 50/50's and passives wedges.

In my experience a set of headphones that sound like an amp pushing big speakers are like gold dust. I'd personally say be willing to compromise and just try some more FRFR phones and use some EQ - Beyer's DT stuff is awesome, I use the 250 Ohm 770 myself, I'd love some 880's. With all that...

Cabinet block on or off with Power amp and a cab

It won't tame the highs a little, it'll tame the highs a lot! Haha. If you're finding things you like with the cab sims on, I'd take them off and try adjusting your amp settings to follow. I use Power Amp sims with my power amp because its FRFR (the cab isn't) but when I used my Mesa Power Amp...

Can anyone explain how the midi switching for the scenes works? I use a ground control (not pro) which is a fairly basic controller. All my midi commands seem to do is flip from scene 1 to scene 8 and back. What's different about it? Would it be possible to get numerical switching to each...

Going FRFR

I'm very happy with the HD1221, it stays extremely clean and consistent as you go up in volume. Other solid state amps I've tried sound very slightly muffled at higher volumes and don't have that really alert attack (slew rate I guess would be the appropriate term) when the volumes pushed I find...

Getting an Andy Timmons lead tone out of the LoneStar sim

How to send Only Guitar to Out 1 and Only music to Out 2

I don't think you can get USB audio to come out of output 2, however I believe you can do it the other way round, and have just guitar in out 2, and just music in out 1, any reason you wouldn't wanna do it that way?

Good phones. If you want more volume, try find a way of EQ'ing and just boost some lower mids, it'll give the impression of more volume and will make your guitar stand out a bit more but won't punish your ears with horrendously dangerous frequencies.

The 'volume knob' you describe on the back isn't that, there is no volume knob, it's input sensitivity. You can't turn the onboard amp up or down, it's fixed, which might be why you're hearing a ring. I get the best sound out of mine with the sensitivity quite high, just wets the signal a touch...
