Going forward with optimism (glass half-full/screen half-green?)

Very true! I should clarify that I'm emphasizing the get-to-know-your-gear aspect of his quote in relation to the Axe-Fx (amps, effects, etc.) and not at all comparing the IPS33B to it.

Going forward with optimism (glass half-full/screen half-green?)

I'm planning to get an Axe-Fx III eventually, but in the interim I keep coming back to this quote by Reeves Gabrels in regard to the Digitech IPS33B in his Tin Machine rig. Once the updates stop, I'm ready and excited for the next chapter with the II. This is from guitarmoderne.com: "Everybody...

    Axe-Fx at April Base

I had the pleasure of spending a week recording at April Base in Eau Claire, WI which is owned by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). Btw, he keeps his Grammys on top of the toilet and his gold records on the wall in the downstairs bathroom. Admittedly, I was rather intimidated bringing my Axe Fx since...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.00 Beta

I'm a big fan as well. In lieu of an actual model, I bet you can get close with a Dual Verb with Celestion V-Type irs. I think the V-Types are a huge part of the sound, but I don't think Celestion offers those yet. Make your own if you can.

What External Pedals Are You Using With your Axe-Fx?

Zvex Fat Fuzz Factory, WMD Geiger Counter Civilian Issue, Dr Scientist Frazz Dazzler, Digitech Freqout, Hexe ReVolver, and Hologram Infinite Jets. Just some extra tools to supplement my Axe-Fx.
  18. themoonshook

    DOD Looking Glass Overdrive

FET based OD with a low and high toggle for gain. In the included block, X is low and Y is high. This thing cuts like a beast in a pleasing way, but the real pedal has an inherent amount of noise even on low gain settings. Even without a gate, this version is much quieter.
  19. themoonshook

    Chase Bliss Tonal Recall

@Jbmetal - Hope this helps. 2 things...Configuration is mono. The Y settings are identical to X except the delay time is 165 ms.

    Chase Bliss Tonal Recall

@silencereleven - Awesome, glad to hear! You can also have the new red knob mod by cranking up the delay time up to 1100ms.

    Jam Origin live

@vaultnaemsae Woah, that setup sounds amazing! I have not tried the Triple Play, but am very intrigued by it. You said you've had better success with that than Midi Guitar 2? How do they compare in terms of tracking? Also, thanks for the tip about StudioMux. That's quite brilliant.
  22. themoonshook

    Jam Origin live

In my Axe Fx's FX Loop I've got 2 Eventide H9's following 2 GLab M2L's in stereo. The GLabs are patching the Alesis ioDock w/Ipad running MIDI Guitar into my Axe Fx and can turn it on and off with one button on my MFC-101. It works better than other pitch to MIDI gadgets I've used before. My...

  24. themoonshook

    Chase Bliss Tonal Recall

This pedal is very deep and I'm just capturing a couple snapshots of it here. The key parts are the EQ of the delays and the sound of the modulation, which I've been able to duplicate pretty nicely. In this block, X is a shorter delay (165ms) and Y is longer (550ms), which is the max time of the...

Just borrowed this pedal for a bit and thought it was a nice variation of a TS-type OD. I got it to match pretty spot-on so I thought I'd share. Here's a short clip through the Car Roamer. First part is just the Roamer, then with the Dunes block. I liked it best as just a subtle boost, but it...

Cool, I hope you like these. I did them by ear and for me that was the best way to hear the nuances of what makes each little sound even though it was very tedious. I'm curious to try the tone match block with fuzzes. Who knows, it could result in some happy accidents. Regarding the Fuzz...

Analog Mono and Deluxe Mind Guy real-time control smoother sounding than Axe-Fx?

Sorry for the long title. I'm in the process of transferring some of my Axe-Fx 2 XL patches to my AX8 and can get everything sounding the same except for certain behaviors of these 2 delay types. On my Axe Fx 2 XL I use an expression pedal to alter the delay time and feedback percentage while...

A question for folks who own both an AxeFx II XL+ and an AX-8.

Sonically, I can't detect any differences and I've found they're both fairly intuitive regarding editing w/o Axe-Edit. I create a lot of effects/texture-based tones and I use my Axe Fx as more of a scratch pad for ideas as I can put a lot more blocks and have a lot more flexibility in a preset...

    Indie/rock-ish radio session with Axe-Fx 2

Thanks! I attached the preset which I use in a power amp/cab setup as I just prefer the vibe of a real amp with this group. Scene 1 is the main tone and scene 2 is the lead. The complete rig for this session was Axe Fx 2 -- EHX Magnum 44 -- Silver Face Twin for speakers only. However, the...

    Ax8 with EHX Magnum 44

I've been using mine live with the Fender 6G12 model into an open-back 1x12 cab with an Eminence Legend as a base clean-ish sound. Issue with preset, CPU jumps from 76 to 100% after scene change

My apologies guys, I accidentally uploaded the XL version. I'm in the process of moving some of my XL presets to my AX8 and must've exported the wrong one. Anyway, h.c.e. pointed out something obvious to me that didn't need to be there (FX loop block) and even just trimming the CPU that much...

Issue with preset, CPU jumps from 76 to 100% after scene change

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone can take a look at this preset as it's driving me crazy. I'm using scenes 1-4 and while scenes 1+3 use roughly 76% CPU, scenes 2+4 will jump to 100% and turn everything into a digital fuzzy mess. Any advice is appreciated, thanks! Note, this preset uses 2...

    MIDI send question

I'm considering whether to make the move from an Axe-Fx 2XL to the AX8... I would like to incorporate 2 Eventide H9's into this new potential rig and am wondering about how midi control will work. Based on what I've read, it looks like each scene can send 1 midi PC command. A question I have...

Dang the Axe sounded good this weekend...

Thanks for the vids and explanation. Just curious, do the other guitarists also run a similar, direct rig or do they have amps on stage? It might come down to what you are playing and how you're playing it, but your parts seem to stand out more or are at least more distinguishable.

    Bit Crusher drive algo

Nice job on this preset! Sounds great on a non-bass guitar as well. Adding a slight detune via the pitch block or chorus makes it sound extra huge. Also, it's very interesting how many new and interesting tones are available without using a cab.

Biggest issues when playing with other musicians?

In Minnesota, where I'm from, there seems to be a cultural norm of passive-aggressiveness. This seems to hold true in band situations as well, especially in the form of constructive criticism. A band I joined about a year and a half ago has really brought this into light as everyone in that...

Couple ?s Which version of the MFC do you have? Do any of your footswitches not work (turn led on/off)? It's possible that a spring underneath one of the footswitches came off and is rolling around loose as they are not permanently attached. The spring makes the contact which sends on/off...

It should come as no surprise that using a drive block in front of an amp sounds way more pleasing now. A quick thing to check... If you've never looked inside the MFC before, there are springs attached to the bottom of the switches themselves that actually make the contacts that send commands. Had my first rehearsal with my AxeFx II XL+ and Matrix GT1000 FX

Thanks for sharing. I'm curious to hear the results of your A/B rig testing. Your bigger board has some of my favorites on it that I still can't quite part with. I find a lot of the Strymon and Eventide sounds very inspiring even if they are essentially re-creatable in the Axe Fx.

Connecting Ipad to Axe fx II? what are the options?

Well, between these two it doesn't seem like you can really go wrong either way. Since we seem to have similar interests in the type off apps we're looking for, I frequent this blog quite often for new ideas: http://www.musicappblog.com Also, the forum on the Audiobus website is pretty handy too.

That one looks pretty interesting too. It may not be a consideration for you, but the Alesis dock will charge the iPad while you use it. Do you know if the Steinberg will also do that? It wasn't super obvious from their website.
