Dave sounded great last night in Brum! Although sure it's practically impossible to gauge guitar sound with any accuracy with all the chaos of an arena performance. Always does cut through the best of the 3 on solos but mainly down to the neck pup!

Multiband Comp on Heavy Guitars

Good idea. I haven't tried in the fractal, but those meters will be a nice help. You can easily thin out your tone a bit too much if you aren't careful. One weird thing I used to notice was that the C4 coloured the tone a bit even with no GR.

Tone Matching

Tone matching is great as a final sheen to get your guitar sat nicely in a mix, if you dont have those 24/7 mixing engineer ears. I always feel a bit guilty afterwards though!

Is linear phase eq more accurate for tone matching?

Hey guys. I typically use the old IR capture from an EQ curve trick to get my tone matches, and then load them into the axe fx III as an ultra res IR. I was wondering whether during this process it would be preferable to use a linear phase eq or whether a standard digital eq algorithm is best...

Dialing tones and guitar volume knob

Always using the volume pot, especially for that subtle solo tone. I have a couple of JS guitars with the high pass filters I use which keep a nice bit of high end in there.

Little update on this issue- i borrowed a small form factor HP to test in the same location. Barely interfered at all, almost zero unless i got the pickups very close to it. My final 2 stages of elimination for the rig are testing with a UPS this week followed by a more expensive motherboard.

Thoughts on purchasing an older interface

RME stuff is pretty damn solid. I used to use focusrite but eventually jumped on the bandwagon. The only annoying thing with my fireface 800 is that I had to buy a microsoft surface dial, convert MS volume to MIDI and then send it into the fireface midi in to control its volume physically!!!

A guy I know reckons the issue will go away if I install a dedicated ground to my studio room. Not sure I'm convinced though . Reckon it's worth a shot, or just try a new case? Think my house is earthed in a tnc-s PMC manner so it has multiple grounding points by the looks of things.

Managed to do some isolation. Looks like lots of leakage from the PSU and the Mobo. Quite far down the rabbit hole now, so will probably try one of my spare PSU's just in case, otherwise maybe upgrade to a pricier board with a bit more shielding going on.

I get a shedload of EMI from my computer too (sounds like the OP). I'd love to work out a way to shield it as its a ballache positioning my guitar in "the sweetspot". I figured i could open the case and copper foil the insides, or tin foil it but that has about half the conductivity. I think...

quick noise floor comparison between III and IIXL+

Exactly the same findings here as well, thanks for illustrating it!!! On the 2 (at least mine) this was always a pet hate when recording which seems to have been cleaned up majorly. I'm guessing higher quality components and better shielding. I havent played with the ground lifts yet. Cant...

The eagle has landed in the UK!

Possibly one of the first in the UK, had it picked up in NYC last week. Only just had chance to rack it on my lunch break, but full review later! From a brief muddle through (the oddly amazing sounding) presets, the noise floor is certainly improved. Cant wait to get back tonight!!!

Axe-Fx III Review

I've noticed in a couple of videos actually that there is little noise compared to my old II. I will make judgement on Sunday :D (great news, as its been my pet hate for years!)

So unless I missed it in the manual...

I never understood the point of polytuners either. Does the new box contain new tuner logic do you know Matt, or is it a port straight over? (entirely happy with the II's tuner, but just curious!)

Axe II vs Axe III... DIFFERENCE now vs Difference in 6 months from now??

I think we'll see a lot more development in effects quality on this new box as opposed to amp simulation updates.

R2R cracks Helix Native

I had a little play with the helix and helix vst a while back. It sounds and feels 2nd rate. Fractal absolutely slaughters the thing, and I wanted to like it.

2:90 finally crapped out. SS power amp or repair 2:90?

Suspect you might miss your 2/90/2 punch a little, but if you're doing a lot of lugging around the SS will do you very well.

Wow, cool story! I found this a few years back as well :( You can put him through anything and it will sound like him. The problem is, most people believe his "tone" is the carvin, buy it and are underwhelmed when they play for the love of god and it still doesnt sound quite right :D:D

Don't forget your I/O shield! (PC)
