Axe-Fx II Firmware "Ares" 1.00 Public Beta

I'm getting the more gain and bass as well. Might do a reload of the firmware. Sounds great though!!

Is the Axe-Fx III available or wait only?

Thanks guys! Yeah, I figured that $2499 was the price. That is great!

Is the Axe-Fx III available or wait only?

Sorry I know this sounds like a dumb question but when I go to the site it says that they are in-stock for $2499. Back when I got my Axe-Fx II, they had a waitlist but also some people were spending more money to get it sooner. I'm not ready to buy but just curious about the situation. Thanks!

Long time Fractal guy here. Is "III" miles beyond the "II"?

Appreciate all of the replies!! One other thing I'll add is that other than a few IRs I bought years ago, I have pretty much stuck with the same IRs built into the "II" for years so I'm sure that part alone will be a big upgrade for me.

AFIII New metal song with my new Axe III!

Sounds great man! Nice chewy chords and Fractal goodness!!

Long time Fractal guy here. Is "III" miles beyond the "II"?

Hello all! I am a huge Fractal fan and have been using the Axe-Fx II since probably around 2011 or so. Love the tones so much that I haven't owned another amp since. I've done so many recordings and the awesome black box never lets me down. I've been on the forum here for years and know a bunch...

    Heavy Tones and Ear Fatigue

I was just doing a search for ear fatigue with KRK's and came to your post. I have the same issue and know exactly what you are talking about man. I have my AxeFx II going into a pair of KRK G5's that I just got about two weeks ago. For me it is certain notes like palm muting in D flat tuning...

Who's Planning To "Eventually" Move Up To The III?

I'm the type of person that researches something to death before buying it, whether a car, guitar, etc. Since I already have a "II", the difference would have to be so significant of a change that it would make it worth the money. Not saying it is not worth the money but I have a few other...

Newbie - buy discounted Axe Fx II or III??

I own a "II" and still absolutely love it. I think I got it in 2012 if I'm not mistaken. Here is the thing about the "III". There is no way you are getting one anytime soon because there is going to be a line of guitarists out the door and around the corner waiting for one. I'm sure Fractal has...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.04 Firmware Release

I can tell you that I had an older Xitone 1x12 and Matrix 1x12, and the Friedman is the only FRFR that I actually took a step back and immediately knew I made the right purchase. The only bad side in my opinion is the weight but I never have to move mine so not an issue. It sounds like a guitar...

    Why 512 Presets?

I might be talking out of my ass here but I could have sworn I saw something where one preset actually can store four channels so you could have a Fender, Marshall, Mesa, ENGL, in one preset. I might be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.

Post Axe-Fx III Launch ... Amp Model Requests

I have been begging for a carefully modelled Cameron Aldrich Mod Marshall down to the various switches, options, capacitors, etc., etc. I know there are Camerons available but haven't seen one that nails that Cameron tone the way Cliff and Co. are capable of.

    Frapple?

This is directly from Cliff when someone asked about how different the "III" tones are from the "II": "A little but not drastically. It's a new platform. It will grow over time. It was time for an updated platform. TigerSHARCs are discontinued, the interface was dated, etc. The III is what the...

    Frapple?

I don't mean any harm by saying this and I'm half-joking when I say that people really need to stop complaining about the "III" coming out. Honestly, and again not trying to be a jerk, but this is a great thing that an awesome product has kept getting better and better. This isn't like jumping...

    Presenting... The Axe-Fx III

Thanks!!! Like I said, my Axe-Fx II already sounds amazing so any significant change would mean that we are not already hearing awesome tone. If it sounds better, that is a bonus. It is going to be great being able to take full advantage of more amps, cabs, algorithms, etc., etc. BTW, anyone...

    Presenting... The Axe-Fx III

I am not enough of a technology nerd to fully grasp the concept but can someone briefly explain why more power is going to equal better tone as related to the II and XL compared to the III? I know that more power can equal faster load times, ability to have more effects, more amps, etc. What I'm...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.04 Firmware Release

Great setup! I use a Friedman ASM-12 FRFR now but years ago I had the Matrix GT1000FX. Great amp! I wanted to use all of the FRFR bells and whistles but if I ever went back to a traditional setup, I'd use that again.

    Only 2 Amps?

LOL, I'm as stupid as you man. I just realized that too while I was reading your post. Man, it actually makes sense now. :) I'm an at home player and didn't even think of that scenario. Just goes to show that they are looking into things we haven't even thought about. :)

Yeah people are flipping out over on Rig-Talk and I'm sure the insanity will continue. :) People are anticipating that folks that recently bought the XL will be pissed, etc. Hopefully nobody feels like that. Axe-Fx II is hundreds of dollars cheaper than my Axe-Fx II. :)

Firmware rollback 9.03 to 8.02 ... how dangerous.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I never recommend people rolling back firmware because you are going to lose added amps, added features, etc. I say adjust those particular parameters that were added and move forward.

    High Gain tone sounds digital

A few of my comments based on my experience as a guitarist. First off, sounded pretty killer in my opinion but there were a few things that might be steering your reasoning for thinking it sounds "digital". It had a slight "crisp" sound which is normally associated with the "bright" setting and...

Man, I need to update soon. I've been waiting but I just need to jump in. :) For the new folks there are three "options" every time we get a new firmware: 1. Amp block reset - Select different amp then back to the amp you want and will have new features (but will keep your settings) 2. Hard...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 9.02 Firmware Release

I'm not sure why it happens but over the years I've noticed sometimes that presets seems to have more gain or drive as you said. I don't know if a certain setting gets adjusted accidentally during the update process or if more realistic values result in a different gain, etc. but some have...

Speaker Comp works great! I was adjusting today and not trying to keep it on any particular setting. I was turning the dial based on my ears. I use an FRFR cab and there was a lot of usable settings I ended up adjusting based on type of amp, etc.

    Instead of Atomic CLR?

For hard rock and metal I'm more of a Friedman ASM-12 fan. I owned a Xitone 1x12 in the past and really liked it but for me, the Friedman just does the heavier stuff better. I will say that it has been years since I owned a Xitone cab and I know Mick has really improved them. In fact...

    Changing tubes...no real difference.

I remember years ago I had a Splawn amplifier and changed the EL34s out for KT77s. There was not a HUGE difference but what did change was there was more low end, and that is exactly what I wanted. I'm sure there are some noticeable changes with some amps, as mentioned above. I think the key is...

How did you create your "core" tones? How much time you have to invest??

Yeah, I think that is why I try to focus on what cabs I would typically use in real life. I also find certain guys make more realistic sounding cabs so I'll use those also. It is great having so many choices but I gotta trim em' down. :)
  61. R

How did you create your "core" tones? How much time you have to invest??

Morphosis on a sidenote, love your country and will always be a second home to me. I think a lot of that was...

    Dr. Feelgood Mod

I was reading a guitar interview with Mick a few years ago and he was talking about his tone and tricks he does to make his sound bigger to feel the void filled with a second guitarist. There are not many bands that get a full sound like that with one guitarist. For the life of me I can't...

Huge improvement with 2 FRFR cabs instead of one?

Man, that video was great! It really makes sense to me now. Now it makes so much sense why this is a great sounding tone. The...

I'm not a huge fan of headphones. Even when I'm doing recordings, I have my Friedman ASM-12 at my feet. LOL! Huge improvement with 2 FRFR cabs instead of one?

I'm a bedroom player and currently have a Friedman ASM-12 FRFR cab. I really enjoy sitting in front of it and playing but wonder if I'm missing an even better tone if I had two cabs. Have you guys noticed a big advantage having two cabs instead of one for stereo separation, etc. or is it a minor...

Awesome! Were you using that as a monitor and everything else FOH? Yeah, the weight thing is my ONLY gripe. I didn't have the balls to ask Dave why it is so damn heavy when I saw him a week ago. :) I did see a commercial for this new hand truck they are selling that goes up and down stairs...
  73. R

Is stereo useless when FRFR speakers are too close?

I don't think so because the speakers, your ears, the direction, etc. would all have to be at the same location. I used to have two 4x12s that were pretty close together and didn't notice any issues.
  74. R

  75. R

    Friedman ASM-12

Yeah, in my humble opinion the Friedman is a good compromise. I think it is good for anyone who struggles at all with FRFR. I might be wrong but I think years ago we both had Peavey Triple-XXX combos and that is when we started chatting on HC. :) Could be thinking of another forum member though.

I do recordings, etc. at home and have my ASM-12 on the floor near my feet, facing up at me. Works perfectly for me. If I were gigging, that new one would be a great addition. I still think the Friedman FRFR cabs would benefit from two handles on the sides like a G-Flex cab. I used to gig with...

    Friedman ASM-12

Hmmm, not sure. The only reason I say that is that the Friedman sounds like being in front of a guitar cab (in my opinion). To be honest, to me it seems more like a "feel" thing than a tone thing. When I'm recording and listening thru my computer speakers, I'm hearing my guitar parts coming back...

User Advice? Matrix GT1000FX or FRFR Speakers?

It really comes down to what you want to accomplish as far as tones go. If you want to sound like specific cabs or are copying certain tones (like want to sound like U2 or Van Halen, etc.) then FRFR is necessary in my opinion. When I was playing thru my Marshall cabs, they were great but I...

The great thing about a band like Brit Floyd is how "perfectionist" they are about getting every little thing right tone-wise and adding sounds, etc. These guitar parts Gilmour created back in the day are so full of delays and reverb and when you hear those leads live, they just soar and...
