Frank, I know you resolved it by using the extension cord, but I'm just curious... are you using Humbuster cables with your FX8? And, also curious as to what volume pedal you're using?

    Back Into The Fractal Fold

Hey guys, I started my journey with FAS in early 2011 with an Axe-Fx Ultra, then moved up to the Axe-Fx II in August of the same year. Really enjoyed the unit for 3 years, and experimented with FRFR (never really bonded with it) options, as well as using tube and solid state power amps and...

    Tip for the amp/cab guys

    Tip for the amp/cab guys

Hey Spence, Just curious... what tube power amp did you try?
  9. Thomas-Hawk

I'm on the fence and the reason is amplification

If you're coming from a regular amp/cab rig, especially if that's what you use at gigs (mic'd up), then I would HIGHLY suggest you start with a nice MOSFET driven Class AB solid state power amp (Matrix GTFX series, or maybe a Carvin 1540), and a traditional guitar cabinet. Even the best FRFR...

Anyone measure the resonance of a Port City 2x12 OS (Vertical even better)?

Sean Ashe did the "find the resonant frequency" trick with his OS 2x12 (not vertical) with V30s (I think), and he came up with 85.3Hz. I have the same cab, same speakers as he does, and that freq. sounds right to me, although I don't play very loudly to really get the cab to resonate.

Hating my Axe FX, any last words before I sell?

Port city Wave os vs. Zilla fatboy vs Rhodes RCS

Another Port City user here. I have the Wave OS 2x12 loaded with the British made Celestion V30s (from a Recto 4x12 cab!), and it sounds so much better than the Recto 4x12 ever did. I'm using a Matrix GT800FX for my power amp, with Cab sims in the Axe OFF and PowerAmp sims ON.

Anyone switch back from FRFR to power amp / cab?

Hey Nick, just curious (again!)... when you use the Axe for amp modeling along with the JSX power section, are you keeping Power Amp sims in the Axe ON or OFF? Also, what type of power tubes does the JSX have? And what volume levels are you typically playing at? Still searching for the best...

    About Speaker LF Resonance

From what I understand (I believe Cliff or someone else from Fractal posted something about this a year or two ago...), once a guitar speaker is mounted in an enclosure (cabinet), the resonant frequency will go up. More so in closed back cabs than open back. So, for example, the Celestion...

Kostas, it would be great if you could do this. I too found it difficult to answer based upon the differences in volume level. I *think* I preferred the tone of the lower master volume clip, but not 100% sure because of the volume level issue. Thanks for this, BTW! :)

2x12" Cab to use with Matrix GT1000

Just FYI, you don't need to run 16 ohm speakers with the Matrix amp. In fact, you'll be able to push more power if you move to 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel, which will present the amp with a 4 ohm load, or you can run it in stereo with 8 ohms per side. You could use one of these for...

My point was simply that if you're using a tube power amp (especially one that doesn't claim to be "flat"), and you're also using the Axe-Fx with Power Amp sims ON, then your signal is essentially going thru two sections of power amp tone coloration, and therefore probably isn't accurate. If...

Absolutely. Which is why I stated in my previous post... "Not saying that what you like isn't "correct"...".
