    AC30 Brilliant....bravo Cliff

Cued the AC30 Brilliant up today, and wow… that’s exactly how I always hoped an AC should sound…. My apologies if this has been stated elsewhere, but which AC30 is this modeled off of? It sounds fantastic!

CONFESSION: I put same pickups in most guitars....

I've only got one traditional hum bucker guitar, but I've got thornbuckers in that axe, and if I were ever to bet another, I'd probably put them in there as well- I really like them. They sound good in almost any style, with excellent clarity, and they split well too.

Fractal Audio's library/museum of great amplifiers

Absolutely. Take the Carol Anns for example- notable and excellent amps with a fairly small number of them out there, but Alan Phillips legacy is still active through the Fractal models. We can make beautiful art with his designs, even if we don't have a physical amp sitting in front of us.

    FC-6 Sidecar: Total Success

Cool idea to set that up with delay subdivisions! Do you use channels for that, I'm guessing?

    FC-6 Sidecar: Total Success

These days, I'm pretty much just playing church gigs out, so stage space isn't an issue at all- I have tons of room- but yea, I completely agree with OP's point- having another FC available to augment your primary FC (or FM9) is fantastic. I've been using a dual FC setup for quite a while now-...

Anyone still using a tube amp?

Yea, I have four amps still- two Swarts (an SST-30 and the stereo SM-20), and two Carol Anns (a Tucana 3, and a Satin). I usually use my Axe as a virtual pedalboard- right in front of the Satin, 4CM with the Tucana, and as a w/d/w master pedalboard for the Swarts, which I usually run together-...

Dynacab Pack Purchasers - Looking for Feedback

I've been in the Fractal universe for a while, and I have this huge library of IRs that I've always struggled with. I've never been great at picking them out, and I don't really have the producer experience to totally understand how all the different options that IR libraries come with actually...

Did we forget to celebrate the 6-year anniversary of the Axe-Fx III in January?

My fractal gear is the only gear I have that gets consistently better as time goes on. Consider how rare that is- a piece of consumer electronics that six years after it's introduction is much more capable than the day it was introduced- it's pretty extraordinary, and one of the biggest (but...

Wish AXE FX III Core - 1U Rack Version

Oh jeez, I so don't want to have to drag a laptop or iPad with me to gigs to be able to make on the fly changes. I always use Axe Edit when I'm home, but when I'm playing out, I never, ever do- I always use the front panel. I know there's been some recent criticism of the Fractal UI, but it's...

Wish Wish please - Mimic (Mimiq) Block

Yea, I still run the Mimiq in one of the loops on my setup. It's really good at what it does. I'm only running two outboard pedals at the moment with my big axe rig- the Microcosm, and the Mimiq. It's very cool, and just gives an enormous stereo image in a way that doesn't come off as phasey...

Clean Amp for Les Paul, No Fender

Don't be afraid of taking a smaller amp that is known for breaking up early and just keeping the gain/MV really low to keep in clean, and just compensate by turning up the level- plenty of good tones to be found by keeping the knobs low and turning up the level.

    FM9 Firmware Version 6.00 public beta (2)

    Awesome- thank you!
  13. Adman103

Well it happened...(FM9T v amp moment)

I have some nice amps that I regularly play, but weirdly, because I don’t absolutely crank the amps up to where they usually sound their best, my Axe almost always sounds better. Even at volume, amps are noisy, finicky and have a serious lack of adjustability compared to the Axe. I love both...

Are you using Axe-Fx/FM9/FM3 with a tube amp?

I use my Axe Fx 3 and FM9 in three different configurations- I do use it for modeling and direct tones at church and for quiet practice, but this isn't the majority of my use. Most of the time (probably 70% of the time), I use 4CM with my Tucana 3. Sounds crazy good, and I really love being...
  15. Adman103

Which single amp channel to do it all?

This is kind of cheating, but for a long time my main patch was the Tucana Lead amp, with an expression pedal controlling gain and level. heel down= clean, toe forward= melt faces. Worked great.

    Dirt Cheap Used FM9's?

yea, that's definitely a scam. Like @morrissey007 said, they don't exist.

When's the last time you broke a string during a gig?

I change regularly, although probably not as often as some. Since switching to NYXLs, I haven't broke a single one. Not sure if this is because of regular changing or the strings themselves, but it's working out fine. That said, I always (ALWAYS) bring a second guitar and have it tuned and...

    Good allround amp suggestions

I have a handful of real amps these days (four of them), and it was playing them in the Axe that convinced me to grab the real deal- two Carol Anns and two Swarts!
  20. Adman103

    Good allround amp suggestions

The Tucana can do an awful lot really well. +1 on the Nuclear Tone (the Swart AST). Different flavor of versatile than the Tucana, but a fantastic character amp.
  21. Adman103

    Amp models that surprised you

oh yea, it sure does! I've got a Swart SST-30, and it's got a lot more gain in that preamp than I think a lot of people realize. Not really modern gain, but it can really drive. Awesome amp. It's been a while since Swarts were the darlings of the other gear forum, but they are fantastic amps...

    Wish Send MIDI Clock

yea, I've long wondered about this as well. What the Axe Fx III and FC 6/12 are missing and what I want in Axe Fx IV and new FC's.....

Holy cow, that was nuts... lolol. I hope that guy's ok. He seemed like he might not have been. Anyways, back on topic, what I really hope gets implemented at some point is for the Axe to be able to send midi clock. I'm a simple man, I just want to be able to send the tempos stored in the...

Idea: A randomization switch for component values based on tolerance differences

That would be interesting from a design perspective (just to see how component tolerances and drift affect the sound of an amp), but I think it would drive me nuts in actual musical practice... Are most of you gigging with your FM9's?

Yup, I gig mine a couple times a month. Get a case- you'll be glad for it! I've literally never had a single thing to wrong with my FM9. Now that I think about it, I don't ever remember having a problem with my Axe 3 either, or my II, or my old Standard. I've had cables go bad, and more than...

Yea, honestly, that's where I'm at too. I've gotten my sleep up to 5 hours a night, but it took a long time. Kids man. My aches and pains started literally overnight after having kids- sleep makes a huge difference in healing, muscle tightness, etc. Good luck- stay healthy!

    Electric 12-string thoughts?

I play a 12 string acoustic all the time, and I'd love to own a 360/12, but I know I wouldn't get along with the neck width. I've had half an eye open for a 12 string Jerry Jones for a little while now.

Which presets are best for a telecaster

This is all excellent advice. I'd try not to get too hung up on having the best of something (preset, IR, tele tone, etc) just because context and taste make it impossible for there to be a best- but start here, and fwiw, I've got some of the @austinbuddy stuff, and it's great. yup, I've concluded I'm the same way. I've learned the hard way not to make dramatic changes without auditioning the changes a couple times over a couple days. Back in the day, I remember the humidity really messing with the speakers in my amps when we were playing a bunch of outdoor gigs...

What Amp Models would you like to see added?

I'd love to have a 6G6B Bassman in the Axe! The blonde Bassman is such a classic amp- it's been used on gobs of recordings- I mean, the Beatles used one, Pete Townsend used one, Bon Iver plays one live, it is THE sound of Brian Setzer... it's an iconic amp in it's own right, and it's distinct...

    DynaCab Pack Limited Public Beta

I am not a hard core studio user, but spend a lot of time with IRs... I'm getting some great sounds right out...

Post Your Axe-Fx III Rigs Here!

Finally finished rewiring my big board. Just waiting for a couple modi’s cables to sync up the smartclock, axe and microcosm. So excited to start playing again- I had disassembled this during the pandemic, but my church gig is starting up again, so I decided to get the board back together again.

What’s your choice of Amp model(s) with best “feel under the fingers” ?

Yea, I have a real Tucana, and it's a 75 watt beast. Sounds good down low, but if you could point it upwards, you could hunt geese with the thing.
  49. Adman103

What’s your choice of Amp model(s) with best “feel under the fingers” ?

I always end up back at the Tucana, but the plexis feel great, the train wrecks are really good for that, the buttery feels great, the DC-30 models... a ton of great amps in there.
  50. Adman103

    MIDI clock solution?

I'm in the middle of wiring up my board exactly like this, but with a Microcosm instead of a Strymon delay. The Smartclock can also be set up with an external tap tempo switch, which means I can bury the Smartclock in the innards of the board. It's handy, but I would love it if future versions...

What doesn't the Axe Fx do effect wise

There's a whole range of pedals out there that combine several effects in really specific ways that are definitely reproducible in the Axe, but it might take a while to get it right. Any of the crazy eventide stuff, or maybe the king of the category- the Hologram Microcosm. I keep mine on my...

Fm9 Stereo set up w 2 tube amp

You can set it up in a few different ways, depending on what you want. You can run the FM9 straight into the front inputs of each of the amps, and then just use it as a traditional pedalboard. Depending on how complex you want this to be, it could be great, or it might not be ideal because...

AFIII AXE FXIII with Baritone guitar

Very nice Marco! Awesome playing- groovy and heavy. I love baritone guitars- my TV Jones Spectra Sonic C Melody Bari is one of my favorite axes. That Funk Machine has a really interesting pickup configuration- cool idea with the bass pickup on the bottom three strings. Obviously it works well!

Sorry for the zombie thread resurrection, but I have a related question if anyone has messed with this before- I'm looking to sync up the tempo of my Axe with a Microcosm and Strymon Nightsky, and because the Axe doesn't send midi clock, I know I'll need to use an external tempo source. Dyna-cab, general consensus is that they're "better" than legacy?

I've gotten plenty of great sounds from IRs over the years, and I still use them all the time. But, dialing in a sound with DynaCabs is so darn straightforward- I was blown away at how easy it was to dial in. It's great, and I use both.

    FM9 for Just Effects

Approach the FM9 like you would a regular pedalboard. You can 100% just run all of your effects straight into the amp, and it'll sound like running a pedalboard into a JTM45. If you decide to mess with the loop, 4CM works great, although I'm a little surprised that that new 45s have an effects...
  60. Adman103

How many expression pedals and how youre using them?

I run three. One is always volume, and the other two vary by patch. Generally though, the second controls the wet effects volume, and the third is tied to gain, so as you sweep forward, you increase gain, but it knocks off about 2 dB as well, so it's like a self leveling gain control. I've...

SDE 3000 EVH; duplicating it in the FM3

Well, I don't know if Boss put the original preamp of the SDE-3000 in the new pedal, but that's kind of the thing that makes the original stand out- and we do have that modeled- it's the SDD in the drive block. For the delay, I agree with @Will Chen , the Vintage Digital seems about right...

They don't sound too different in real life, to...
