A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

That’s pretty much it, really. You need inputs to feed your rack, they need the same “pre-everything” inputs for theirs. Lots of shows with a monitor engineer do a similar thing and I stole the idea there. I’m not big time, and don’t do big shows so I can’t attest to what the top shelf shows...

A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

I use a similar mixer, the Presonus 32R. It’s got 32 physical inputs and 16 Aux outputs. We have that set up as both our main and monitor board. Presonus apps (UC Surface and Q-Mix) allow control as needed for FOH or monitors, or both. When the house has its own PA and engineer, we have a...

A Question and a thought about DI and silent stage

We solved the issue by having our own rig, which becomes our IEM or wedge rig when we don’t need/run FOH. Splitter snake give them all the feeds to do their job with, and we hear the same thing (on IEMs) or close to the same thing (on wedges) show to show. Silent stages are built-in with that...

FM9 Headphones output extremely loud - Ear protection

I didn’t know this could be done. You could have output 3 copy output 1 and it would send a quieter version on output 3, but you’d need an adapter to get stereo to your phones.

As Greg notes below, all of their stuff is good, but the deluxe stuff does add useful and well-designed features. I’ve used them for a long time now and they’re roadworthy. IEM gurus, i need help

Might be. Getting a good seal might be more important than the quality of the IEM (within reason), and can play havoc with EQ of the mix, making some things less audible. If you’ve got that lined out, there shouldn’t be massive differences between signals of similar volume.
  9. Rick

    IEM gurus, i need help

Throwing a dart in the dark here, but what type IEMs and tips are you and the drummer using? It’s critical, especially with an a-hole insisting on a wailing amp in the room when it’s not necessary. You need to both hear yourself clearly, and block out as much of that jet-engine blast as you...

    Silent rehearsal studio

You mention needing “a mixer of some sort.” Assuming you’re rehearsing with the intention of later performing what you’ve rehearsed, I wondered what sort of mixer you had for those plans. Many mixers can facilitate a number of mono or stereo aux mixes, and a simple headphone amp is pretty cheap…...

    Behringer X32Rack or something else?

Yes, it’s great either for lots of aux mixes, or the outboard gear. They did a great job across that series.
  12. Rick

    Behringer X32Rack or something else?

The X32 stuff is proven gear, and you really can’t go wrong with it. Super-solid for gigging, and you can go to the Compact, or even the X32Rack if you’d like to downsize in channels or footprint. There are a zillion options out there for mixers, but not many in nearly the scope of use that...

Sennheiser G4 IEM - more gain with AFX3

I’m leaning this way, considering the vocals sound fine and there’s no indication of overload on the G4. I feed my G4 through a paired (stereo) Aux send for a monitor mix, so I can control my guitar levels in my ears from an app. It works great, but there’s no denying that, for better or worse...

Does the tuner work if I’m just using the FM3 for effects?

Adding to Leon’s info, if the effects loop of the amp has an on/off function, the FM3 (or anything in the loop) will only work while the loop is on. Sounds obvious, but it’s normally something like that when you find your issue.
  19. Rick

    Weird tuning issue

Sounds like a bad string to me. The part where it goes both up and down in pitch knocks out a lot of possibilities, at least as far as anything I have experienced. I’d start by replacing the offending string, and if that fixed it I’d replace the rest for good measure. The only time I’ve ever...

It's interesting to discuss, but there is as much mental as physical about it... and that's not to deny there is something physical. I used a pair of them in Thiele cabs, and it was killer. Authoritative and clear… really lets you hear the amp and guitar. As Yek mentions, it’s a “truthful” speaker, as is the 12L. It likes taking advantage of its strength, and doesn’t wither at volume. I look forward to hearing your...

This is definitely a factor worthy of consideration. We tested the Nux 5.8 IEM system after having decent luck with their little guitar wireless sets, but the sound quality was not up to par. At $199, it’s unfair to compare it to $800-1500 systems, but being as that was the option I can only...

    EVM 12S?

The 12S is a wonderful speaker, I used them for years with Mesa and Soldano rack rigs. It’s basically a 12L with a slightly shorter cone to focus the tone more to guitar-specific frequencies. EV intended it to be the main guitar speaker, but the market at the time had already latched on to the...

We’re making the move to IEMs and after watching Scott Uhl’s review of them I thought they might be the perfect solution. Clean Amp for Les Paul, No Fender

A Les Paul doesn’t sound like a Fender just because you plug it into a Fender amp. A couple of red flags there for me as a regular PRS player. 1. You can’t order case candy from PRS. There are lots of fake PRS guitars out there, and selling documentation would just make faking it easy. The lack of a case and candy doesn’t prove or disprove anything, but if I lost a case...

This was my thought too (and is also what I use). In your scenario, you could still keep the FC6 on your desktop where it’s handy and have the switches and capability of the FM9 on the floor. I 8se them both on the floor, but if I wanted some handy switches up top, the 6 does that. Might as...

What non tube amp do you still love, own or lust over?

Two from the past: a Lab Series L5 2x12 combo was my first gigging amp, and I thought it sounded great back then. Also, our bass player got a huge, round, and punchy tone using his Fender basses (Precision and Jazz) into an Acoustic 370 amp and 2x15 cab. Two good ones there.
