Who's Planning To "Eventually" Move Up To The III?

I don't know. At this stage of my life/career, moving up to the III when I already have a perfectly good II would be sorta like trading in a 2015 Porshe for a 2018 Porsche when the '15 model spends the vast majority of its time in the garage. As appealing as a new model is, there's just no...

Is a power conditioner really necessary with axfx?

I have no illusions about the filtering or surge/sag leveling capabilities of most devices on the market. They're mostly a joke, marketed to prey on people's insecurities about expensive gear, as if the guys who design fancy computer-based electronic gear know nothing about power. Phbbt. The...

Fixed 48k Sample Rate Impedes Recording Studio Integrations

I could be wrong, but I think the 44.1Khz sampling rate is an unfortunate relic of early adherence to Nyquist's theorem that says a sampling frequency a little over double the sampled frequency will return an accurate reproduction of the original waveform. In audio, we really don't care about...

    XL+ Becoming Obsolete?

I agree. I remember when the original AxeFx came out, everybody was just touching themselves in excitement because it was such a peerless revolutionary product. Granted, it has improved over the years, but it's still heads above most stuff out there. No need to get all butthurt over a new...

Any dev/tech that can explain how this works?

The one I heard didn't change the tone of the guitar, and was a pretty effective device. Not quite as good as a gate, but damned close, and with no switching.

Any dev/tech that can explain how this works?

I don't know, but I suspect that opposed to a noise gate, it's a very narrow band filter, designed to notch out maybe 58 to 62 hz. Since it's so narrow, you wouldn't necessarily notice it's missing, but it takes out the powerline carrier. I haven't played around with it, but I suspect that...

Strange noise when combining Axe FX with Boss FC-300

Possibly. You might try just moving things around - separate them more. It's possible that whatever is sensitive to the switcher can be put out of range. The field they put out is usually fairly small, unless it's a high-current supply. Computer power supplies, for instance, are switchers with...

Strange noise when combining Axe FX with Boss FC-300

Powerlines operate at a frequency very near the lower limit of human hearing so they're difficult to hear. What most people hear and identify as powerline noise is harmonics and other noise riding on the powerline and being modulated by it. If what you're hearing is a rather high frequency, it's...

Fractal Expression Pedal Tale of the Taper

According to Code Poet's post above... So, longer than perhaps you'd prefer. But, according to all reports, the Fractal units are much smoother both in operation and response, so it may be worth getting used to a little more travel. I know myself, years ago I was quite impressed with the...

How many expression pedals are you using?

I installed 4 (Mission) pedals when I built the pedalboard, along with 4 discrete switches (Boss), since that's how much I/O is on the MFC. I wanted it all out, whether I used it or not. Mission Pedals: to spring or not to spring, that is the question...

I prefer the unsprung models, no switch. If you're going to use one for volume, wah or rate (delay/chorus/flanger/vibrato), you often want the thing to stay where you set it. Headphone Output only outputs to right ear...

Not according to Ohm's law. Replace the word "impedance" with "resistance" (basically AC vs DC), and it's easier to see how lower impedances are heavier loads. They're not equal - they're inversely proportional. At a given voltage, the higher the impedance, the less current flow you have. It...
  46. Cagey

Headphone Output only outputs to right ear...

I think what you meant to say was that putting two pairs of headphones in parallel lowers the impedance, not the load. It increases the load. The lower impedance causes a higher current flow, which is what causes it to overheat.

Can I run the Axe Fx II off of solar power?

Conversion isn't free, either. The inverter(s) to get from DC to AC will burn some power up themselves in efficiency losses.
