Screen flicker and death of an axe fx :-(

Hey guys, I've already opened a support ticket about this but still waiting for a reply from the kind folks at FAS. But I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my malady. My axe fx 2 was on for a few hours running through some reamps, when I think because of a voltage fluctuation the screen...

    Axe-Fx II Firmware V11.03 Up

In Then last tour for monuments and Skyharbor in Russia, (I do foh for Skyharbor) the backline vendor defaulted and olly was left without an amp of choice. We offered one of our axe fx 2s loaded with 11.03, plugged it behind a jcm900, turned up the jcm volume to about 5, disabled sag on the amp...

Axe-Fx II Firmware V11.02 and New Preset Banks

Dear Mr. Cliff Chase, You have NO idea the kind of happiness and ease of great guitar tone that you're ushered into this world. As a musician and a producer in a third world country, where backline is difficult to come by and costs one's right nut to rent it out, the Axe FX is a MARVEL...

    Help with hum issue

Hate clubs and their power issues. This also happens if the neon light is plugged into the same phase as your axe. Ask for a separate shielded or decoupled power source. Does rolling off the volume help?

    The scooped 5150 tone

Andy Sneap has been very open about his production techniques. Some things he's done in the past with great results are definitely quad tracking (he's sticking to just dual tracking now), using different amps for left and right, the mbc trick for woofy mutes, and meticulous eq. Also he's got a...

Bug? Global Blocks for PEQ & Compressor are the same?

According to the manual, each block type is supposed to have it's own set of 10 linkable global blocks. But it seems like PEQ and COMP are sharing global blocks????? Either that, or AE blew up those blocks to full CCW when I linked them :-(

v10 firmware update not possible - what to do ?

Fractal Bot worked flawlessly here. Was coming from 9.01. Kept axe fx 2 plugged in, powered up fractal bot, selected FW file, hit update. Voila! Done and dusted.
  13. G

    Congrats!

Oh, you plink plonk fellows :P I'm loading the FW now and I can't WAIT to annihilate all the high gain monsters. Kachunk chunk CHUGGACHUGCHUG \m/
  14. G

Just wondering....is the Axe Fx II used in any major studios?

Suggestion to FAS before FW10 and AE release...

I think the ae2 announcement was on April fools, or was it later?
  18. G

    Help! I'm covered in bees!

Once again, kudos to fas and cliff. Its been said a lot of times but I'll say it again - there's not a single manufacturer I can think of who gives its customers such an amazing experience.
  19. G

Just got my Matrix GT 1000FX

No :-( although it would be an awesome feature suggestion for the next fw update!
  20. G

A good sign? Wiki amp block list has suggested cabs for v10.

Easter eggs in new fw10. That's what's been taking so long. Its been ready for a while donchaknow?

  22. G

Which do you prefer? : Running the Axe-Fx thru a Wedge Or Power Amp and Cab?

If you're in the us there is always the option to rent and try. I'd recommend contacting a back line rental company and renting a stereo power amp (qsc/crown/matrix) and running it with one output plugged into a guitar cab and one plugged into a frfr monitor. Just remember to turn off cabinet...

    bass big muff how to

Have already done a 3 way split - clean, compressed lows, filtered mids running a hard Fuzz into an svt. Highs running into a 5153 blue. The lows and the highs are sounding great, the mids however are failing :-(
  25. G

    bass big muff how to

So, I'm looking at getting a bass big muff sound, which differs a fair bit from the stock big muff. Any pointers on what all to mod in the stomp section?

one rhythm guitar panned L+R how to...(live situation)

Unless you already have, I'd strongly suggest going through the manual once,as well as the wiki. Have fun :-) this setup sounds huge btw - truly truly massive. Chugs are very rewarding :-D
  27. G

one rhythm guitar panned L+R how to...(live situation)

Erm, split your signal into two amps, drive each amp intoa cabinet block (separate block for each amp). Make sure you're using.2.different amps but they should sound roughly the same. Hard pan one cabinet block left, the other right. Plug in headphones to check stereo spread. Insert enhancer...

AXE-FX II Rack is Finished.... (I think)

Wicked! You're in deep shit if your screen ever breaks though :-)
  29. G

Can I use the AXE FX in two ways at once?

The way I understand it you want to have the option of using the axe fx amps as well as your own amp? Totally doable. I have a question tho wrt impedance - i use a reamp box for reamps (duh), but when the output 2 goes into the amp head, what's the impedence? Is it matched correctly so there's...
  30. G

    Reamping I got hiss

Try flipping the ground/lift switch on your reamp box and see if this solves the issue. Also, see if any of your cables are touching the floor. Finally, turn off all audio and just keep your reamp chain plugged in with the gate off. If you're still getting hiss, it might just be your converters :-(

V7 bug - tick tick noise corresponding to patch/global tempo

Pretty much what the topic says. There's a very soft tick tick tick sound coming which locks in EXACTLY with the tap tempo button, and you can hear it on high gain amps with the noise gate off. It's strange - once I moved my signal cable further away from the MIDI IN cable (from my fcb, which...

Axe-Fx II Firmware Version 7.00 Public Beta

Um, i a/bed the DAS metal and the new vh4, and they sound totally different! The das metal is one of my all time fav amps on both the ultra as well as the ii, but they sound different. The new vh4 looks like it's gonna be the new fav though :D

    Dorthal jazz/metal track (Mayones Regius 7 & Patriot 5, Darkglass B7K)

So how is that darkglass? Everyone seems to rave nonstop about it... Very nice music. You should seriously think about using a BIG distorted rhythm in some parts once the drums kick in. Will sound more dynamic IMO.
  51. G

Heavy! Drop E (you read that right) metal band, Axe FX 2 Rectifier + Real 4x12

Nice nice mix :-) Drums sound like superior or slate or too much sample replacement :-D it's ok, most of the bands sound like this nowadays, fans expect drums to sound like this, and drummers wish they sounded like this in real life haha!

    Version 7.00 Preview III

This. To me the two sound quite different... 1st sounds more flat, 2nd has more low end boominess and more gain!
  55. G

    Creating new AMP tones

I always find myself tweaking the advanced parameters - mostly to tighten up the amp or change distortion character. This is, for me, what sets the axe apart from everything else, and helps me come up with some really unique results.

    Version 7.00 Preview Part Deux

    Anyone upgraded from a HD500?

Also, at the Inferno Metal festival in Norway last year, the two bands with the best guitar tones were BOTH Ultra users - Meshuggah & Incense. And there was a LOT of great backline(5150/Dualrec/Engl Savage/Marshall JVM/JCM900) and engineers there. Not to mention a very expensive custom order...
  61. G

    Anyone upgraded from a HD500?

Here's my 0.2 cents - My "day job" is that of a live sound engineer and an album producer, and I work with almost everything from metal bands to folk fusion outfits, and have to make everything from 2 pedals into a marshall dfx100 to an axe fx ultra sound great. I've to also, invariably, make...

    International Warranty & Servicing

I've had a growing concern after looking at all these "My Axe FX II just died on me" threads. So here's a question to the FAS guys, just to get some clarity. A lot of us order the Axe to places where there's no official distribution (India in this case) - I personally know almost all the Axe...
  63. G

    Tuner Accuracy

+1 on less jumpy tuner. Low B as well as bass strings are still quite jumpy despite the firmware upgrade. Dead on accurate (I have great ears donchaknow :D) but yeah too jumpy... gets a little hectic in a live situation where you've to tune quickly between songs!
  64. G

Got my Axe II , transporting it?

Most airlines allow you to carry it. I wouldn't check it in... To previous to allow airlines to screw with it, rack case or no.
  67. G

Who uses amps they would have never owned actual versions of

Cameron. I'd never even heard of the amp prior to the axe. That and the vh4 and the uberschall - simply because of how much they cost :-P
  68. G

7 string metal tone (Das Metal)

Ouch, too thin.. after the amazing intro i was prepared for a HUGE sound coming my way, must say that I was a bit disappointed with what I was hit with... Nice playing there though! Rhythms could have been a biiiit tighter, and wtf is up with those drums???????????/
  69. G

    Heavy Metal sound test

Maybe dial down the gain a wee bit. Sounds too grainy and oversaturated at times - would probably even pop out better with just a little less gain. I quite like it otherwise - sure as hell could use some high mids though :-)
  70. G

From (good) bedroom tone to (weak) live sound...

Once you're happy with you're bedroom preset, dial down the gain a bit, slap a peq, hi pass @80hz, low pass @ 10k, and boost a wide band at between 500 to 1k by about 2 db. That should counter the Fletcher Munson effect somewhat. You can also dial down the treble or presence from your amp model...

Erm, I'm mostly doing high gains for my tone tests, and I mostly use headphones/studio monitors. Tones are sounding better for me with each subsequent release! Exact same here. I think this config might be a bit iffy... Last firmware update was a breeze... this is taking forever :-( I guess the new AE with win7 x64 might have some problems? Dont know if this has been answered elsewhere in this thread.. it seems like i'm, as usual, a little late to...

    Wah producing distortion in v6

Lower the gain in the amp block? A bunch of amps seem to be, the gainier v6, the wash might be pushing them... Just a guess!
  75. G

So, why does the IR caputure require a mic preamp?

A good Mic preamp stage is expensive, adding it to the axe fx would just raise its price astronomically...let's just say a Mic isn't the best technology humans have concocted...

    Tone Exchange ?

    Killer stuff here!
  80. G

    Tips

Ok! Here's where (for me) tone matching is more than just another way to go jizzies over your favorite tone! This is especially useful if you're too lazy to use and go through a lot of custom IR files! So, make a regular tone (high gain in this case) Now the recto in the II never sounded...
  81. G

Little hint to make the matching process even more accurate

Yeah I noticed the extra low end and high end sparkle on tone matched presets, but then I always block everything below 80, and everything above 12k anyway. Sometimes even narrower (100 to 9k). Tone matching is awesome!
  82. G

Just how brilliant is the TM block? This brilliant.

Ahem. My apologies. I thought this was a bug and actually found that it was EXACTLY what was happening. Is it not possible to save just the reference? We can always resample the local data, but for amp matching and stuff, the reference data is, IMO, MORE important than the matched wave. That...
  83. G

    Tone Match References Gone!

:-'( how sad. If the reference was saved it'd be REALLY cool!!! You could try out different configs and preset exchange would make SO much more sense! Cmon fractal!!!! It's doable!! No?
  84. G

Just how brilliant is the TM block? This brilliant.

I am hoping i'm doing something wrong, but with some different permutations, the same problem is occurring - at one time only one set of captures is loaded onto memory (i.e. In different tone match patches, only the most recent captures are showing) and a power cycle erases all captures. The...
  85. G

    Make Sure You...

Doesn't matter. The reference block still doesn't get saved!
  86. G

Just how brilliant is the TM block? This brilliant.

Wait. Bummer fest happening here. Reference tones not getting saved with the preset. Only last capture remaining in memory... the processed tone matched section is getting saved... but not the reference.. :-(

    Tone Match References Gone!

I tone matched a few clips, powered off while connected to the usb port. Restarted in a bit (axe edit was still on...) and then when I went into tone match, the reference and user plots were gone :-( the tone match plot was still there, but that means I've to do a new capture :-( WHY? I'll do...
  90. G

Just how brilliant is the TM block? This brilliant.

This feature is awesome. I just tone matched some stems posted on the presets forums and holy shit! I couldn't believe my ears! Now what would really own would be some amp matched presets!

Axe-Fx II Firmware Version 6.00, MFC-101 Firmware Version 2.01 Up

  92. G

First Tone Match Attempt - AIC and VH

  94. G

    Version 6.0 is Great!!

The best thing about this update is that I have finally nailed that fireball going into engl v30 pros that I was always after! Thank you fas :) That said, is it just me or do none of the rectos sound as good as the recto new model from the ultra?

    High gain goodies!

I'd love to post a clip, just that I barely had enough time to post the presets. Try em out, they were made on a 7 stringer tuned to Bb! The y cab config works just fine - the own hammer info was in case someone already has those cabs! And for the record they own!
  99. G

    High gain goodies!

Here are two fairly simple high gain rhythm presets - painfully tweaked for uber tightness. Guitar used is a schecter c-7 blackjack with cold sweats -so you might need to tweak the stomp sections to get it just right for your guitar. I'm LOVING these sounds! Your opinion may, of course, vary...
