Talk me out of (or into) buying a Suhr Guitar

I had a Suhr Modern HSH, outstanding guitar-right up there with Tom Andersons. Only reason I sold it was the pickups were not my cup of tea and the nut was a bit narrow(1.65, like a strat). If I wouldn't have had my MJ GG at the same time, I'd probably still own the Suhr.
  10. sandmannn69

Talk me out of (or into) buying a Suhr Guitar

Probably why I can't let my MJ GG go, even though my DK24 sounds and feels identical. The GG has slightly taller frets than the DK and it's a Wonderful Slippery Thing.
  11. sandmannn69

Talk me out of (or into) buying a Suhr Guitar

Regarding the USA GG, new ones seem to be unavailable due to demand, which I believe is why they created the Japanese version. I've only played one USA model about 3 years ago, and it was a bigger C profile, very comfy. When I ordered my MJ GG from Wildwood, I picked the one with the biggest...

Talk me out of (or into) buying a Suhr Guitar

Maybe they were talking about the USA GG model, those had bigger necks. Yes, my DK is not typical-I had Sweetwater measure a few to find one with a chunkier neck. Wildwood posts the neck measurements on all of their guitars, so easier there. I highly recommend Wildwood Guitars, great to deal...

Talk me out of (or into) buying a Suhr Guitar

It's actually the same shape, like a C with some shoulder(guess some folks would call it a thin D). I cherry-picked mine at Wildwood(GG) and Sweetwater(DK), got them both at about 0.80" at the 1st fret. The DKs usually are around 0.76-0.77, too thin for me. It's amazing how similar the DK...

Talk me out of (or into) buying a Suhr Guitar

Save some money and get a Charvel DK24. With the extra money, you can have refretted with steel frets. I had that same guitar in a different top and the pickups were too hot.

  21. sandmannn69

    Jackson vs. Charvel ...Preference?

A lot of Charvels I've owned have had thin C profile necks, some with more shoulder, some with less. The two-piece necks usually seem to have more shoulder. My Guthrie Govan MJ has a perfect C neck, very similar to the 2008-2010 pro-mods.
  22. sandmannn69

    Jackson vs. Charvel ...Preference?

I'd say that's a pretty accurate statement since I've owned many Charvels and a few Jacksons, and I don't like D profile necks.
  23. sandmannn69

    Jackson vs. Charvel ...Preference?

    Jackson vs. Charvel ...Preference?

If you're used to a Kramer, get a Charvel San Dimas with a Floyd double-locking vibrato and Duncan JB/59 pickups, it shouldn't have tuning problems if the Floyd is set up correctly. The ash ones are usually lighter than the alder models, but none of the new ones have the cool candy colors of the...

    Slash tremolo trick on hardtail

All of the Fender amps I've worked on or played through have the "Vibrato" control that changes the speed of the tremolo effect. One thing we do know for sure is a whammy bar cannot produce a tremolo effect, but everybody still calls it a tremolo system.....

Measured the volume pot on my 2nd GG MJ that I just got from Wildwood, and it is an audio taper pot. I disconnected the treble bleed circuit from the pot and now it rolls off like normal. Guess I'll put a switch on that treble bleed circuit so I can disable/enable it as I'm keeping this one...

    Any Big Hair lovers?

"Hair bands" was the term popularized by MTV in the 1990s and derives from the tendency among most such bands to style their long hair in a teased-up fashion.

Before you replace that JB, you could try lowering it to improve clarity(if that's what you're missing). #1 main guitar IMAGES and name, if you name it, please

The single in the bridge was actually a humbucker, but I've never found a single coil-sized humbucker I liked. Got a cheap template from Musiclily and did an Eddie on it. The gold is the best color in the dk22 line and this one is a featherweight.

Current #1 is my (modified) Charvel DK22. Routed the bridge for a full-sized HB and put a Duncan 78 in there. Don't name my guitars, but I guess I'd call this one "Goldfinger".

It's quite a bit slimmer. Identical to the Charvel DK24/DK22, maybe with a bit more shoulder-or maybe it's just the huge frets.... My AZ is about 0.82" thick at the 1st fret, this one is about 0.77". But the AZ has a narrower strat nut(1.65").

Just got this fine specimen in from Sweetwater yesterday. Plays very nice with the typical Charvel neck (I'm pretty sure the frets are super jumbo-they're huge). I've always been a 22-fret player. Just seem to get lost up there with those extra frets. Guess modern players don't like to do "boomer bends" to get that 2nd octave..... One thing I didn't care for was the volume pot being a linear taper-it's like an on-off switch and doesn't give that nice...
