WALKTHROUGH: Dialing in amps on the Axe-Fx

OK, but as I go CW and increase damping, the volume also increases. As you know, more damping = more feedback = less gain = less volume. So I guess what I'm hearing is the volume compensation that Cliff included in the damp parameter. BTW, great job Yek!

WALKTHROUGH: Dialing in amps on the Axe-Fx

#23- damp... IIRC, higher values (CW) result in less damping, at least that's what I hear. Like going CW is increasing the value of the feedback resistor. But zero (fully CCW) disconnects the feedback loop for no damping at all. Cliff?

Thanks Cliff! Yeah it's hard to tell if depth is doing anything, so it's probably disabled.

    What's up with damp?

Having fun with this one! 2 Das Metal amps in parallel. #1 with bass, depth and damp off (bass is flubby with no feedback). #2 normal, initially with mids and high/presence off, adjust output level until bass sounds right in the mix. Then adjust mids & highs on both amps for various mixes. Tight...

    What's up with damp?

So I turned up presence all the way, and was playing with the damp parameter to see what effect it had on the presence range. I put damp to zero and... woah! It got louder, very bright and RAW. Cool tone! It is not mentioned in the manual or wiki manual, but searching here revealed that putting...

Hi-gain FRFR "amp in the room" fix

Haha, yes it's true, I never used it and had to look it up in the manual. The funniest part is that I chose by ear the same low pass frequency that Cliff stated in the manual! So essentially my use of the PEQ is the Air parameter, but with a lot more tweakability. Great!

Hi-gain FRFR "amp in the room" fix

Axe-fx -> Yam DSR115. For high gain, I have been struggling to get at least some semblance of an "in the room" 4x12 sound. Went through a million IRs and no matter what, the sound isn't "right there". The highs always sound weird to me, and the midrange seems off in the distance. It doesn't...

The Mesa Mark series EQ once again...

This would be easier if we could disable the preamps, and yes I know it can't be done. But it would be nice to have a couple of generic amp models where, at the default settings, the preamp is completely transparent. Then you could use it as a power amp only model without risk of anyone cracking...

Tried my Axe-Fx through a cab for the first time.

Here's another way to cable it: Guitar --> Axe-Fx front input Left output 2 --> Mesa guitar input Mesa send --> Left input 2 Left output 1 --> Mesa return This will let you use your actual Mesa preamp as well as Axe-Fx amps.

Re: How can i use the editor and my controller at the same t I have the 2x2, and I still can't use the controller and editor "at the same time". I have to toggle the switch on the midisport: usb/merge for the editor and midi thru for the controller.

Went from stereo to mono, lost all sound

I don't think it's the Axe-fx. I never did mono with the SLA2, so I just tried it, and it works fine. You probably already know this, but I had to push the stereo/mono switch in with a pen to get it to mono, and channel 1 is what is used for mono. Maybe there is something wrong with your cab...

There is no "reset" button on the Axe-fx. You have to load the original patch banks via a 'puter. Axe-edit will get you there. Here is where you can download the original preset banks: http://www.fractalaudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=338&start=30

    Modeling for different power valves

What happened to the idea of, like the power amp bypass, having a preamp bypass also. So you can run amp A's preamp section into amp B's power amp via 2 amp blocks in series. Not worth the trouble?

    Turning Axe-Fx off

I turn it on and off like a coffee pot, but it gets unplugged if a thunderstorm is in the forecast. Also unplugged if I'm gone for a few days, cause I can't predict the weather. Just turning the power switch to off won't cut it if I get a lightning strike.

Help make my mind up (Standard or Ultra)

The main reason for the treble/bass difference is the cab sim. You have a Marshall valvestate amp, so I would leave the amp sim ON. As far as the cab sims, since you are using a guitar 2x12 cab and not FRFR speakers, the "normal" thing to do is to have the cab sims off, and then try to adjust...

    Bias adjustment thread

Just for fun and to get a visual, I injected a sine wave into my Ultra running only the USA clean amp. The first o-scope pic is with the bias at 0.0, the crossover distortion is obvious. The lower pic is with the bias at .350.

    Double Drive patch (hi gain)

Here is a patch I made for my live rig. I'm using a tube power amp and 4x12 cab, so I can't use cab emulation, and I find that a lot of the amp sims through this setup sound a little thin during high-register soloing.
