    Going from FRFR to poweramp/cab

Shouldn't require more than bypassing the cab block and maybe some global EQ tweaks. If this doesn't do it, like others have stated, try starting with a new preset. It's possible you've made some forgotten tweaks to the preset which could be impeding things.

How many tried the III and decided to just keep using the II?

Same here, I'll probably never buy a III because I "need one", it would only be because I "want one". I currently carry my entire Axe Fx rig (Axe II and MFC), less my CLR, in a single 4u rack bag, which is borderline for a weight and size that I'd want to carry. Anything larger, and I'd have to...

Running SM7B (dynamic mic) through Axe-Fx II

I've actually recorded some vocals by running an SM58 into my Axe Fx II, then using the tube pre block to boost the signal. For just messing around with recording some vocals, I got some decent results, but definitely not a replacement for a high end mic pre.

    Uneven Balanced XLR levels

Before assuming it's "hardware" related, have you tried creating a simple preset with one block, like an amp block? There could be something in the preset(s), which could explain the difference (unbalanced stereo blocks...). Just a thought, and easy to check.

Long-time Axe-Fx user, first time FRFR user, some thoughts

I didn't see where you mentioned what you're using for cabs/monitors. The actual physical cabs/monitors being used can heavily influence the end result. If you're running the signal through low end monitors, or cabs that are not very flat, it can add undesirable characteristics, something no IR...

    Re-amping with Reaper Question #432

It's never staying "within the box", as the actual recorded files reside on the DAW host computer. As for D/A and A/D conversion, I would assume that there's no way around that, since Reaper stores tracks as wav or flac files (audio). I could be wrong, but that's my guess.

I've never liked any of the presets made by others "as is", no matter who made them. I only found the sounds I was looking for through experimentation. The most important thing for me, at least playing live, was obtaining a FRFR solution that was capable of accurately reproducing the Axe Fx...

In the Spirit of NAMM Anouncements (FAS reactive load box)

I'm still trying to figure out if this box also acts as an attenuator, or is just a means of obtaining a line level signal from an amp. The words "Reactive Load" and the presence of the large knob on the front is in-line with some attenuator designs that also feature a recording level output.

Played my AxeFX through a real cab for the first time yesterday...

Yeah, I tried it once just to see what it would sound like, similar experience. I'm a "keep is simple" kind of guy, and the whole cab sims through guitar cabs approach is too convoluted for me. Even if I could get a good sound with that approach, I'd be looking for simpler route (less is more...).

Played my AxeFX through a real cab for the first time yesterday...

I would suggest bypassing the cab block and experimenting with the Out 2 Global EQ. Also, I see you are using for a Mesa power amp, do you have power amp sims on or off? This can also affect the final result, your use of a cab block/sim may be partially compensating for power amp coloring.

The Axe Fx is a modeler, not an amp. Cliff and company have done a tremendous job in closing the gap between modeling and true amps. However, a tube amp is a high voltage device, containing high voltage components and circuitry, much more temperamental than a modeler. They will never behave...
