    FM3 pitch block (vs AX8)

Hello, it's been a long time since I've been active on this forum. I actually made several youtube demos for G66 of both the Axe-Fx Ultra, Axe-Fx II, and the AX8 several years ago, when these units were new in Europe. But since I got my AX8, I've been so happy with it, it's been all that I've...

    AX8 Guitar Christmas/Advent Calendar 2020 :-)

Hello, fellow AX8 users; here's this year's Guitar Christmas/Advent Calendar from me :-) This year there are no christmas songs, instead I'm paying tribute to the many great musicians/composeres who have passed away the last couple of years...

    Guitar/AX8 Advent Calendar 2018

Thanks! I really don't see the need for a III, especially since I find myself playing more and more acoustic these days.. I'm quite happy with my AX8 for now (with a few small exceptions..) ;-)

    Guitar/AX8 Advent Calendar 2018

Thank you very much :-) No, I didn't mention my settings specifically, I have just used some of my old ones, maybe with a little bit of tweaking to suit the different songs and/or guitars. Most settings are pretty basic; I think it's the Double verb amp model on most of the electric tracks and...

    FX Loop/master volume question..

Yeah, I understand, silly me.. ;-)
  11. rednebb

    FX Loop/master volume question..

Yes, I know that I can add a volume block to the preset of course, but then I would have to do this for each preset. I was hoping there was a way to keep the global master volume without affecting the volume of the FX loop also, but I guess that's just wishful thinking then.. ;-)
  12. rednebb

    FX Loop/master volume question..

When I play solo gigs, I normally use my AX8 with 4 exp pedals, a Boomerang III phrase sampler (looper), sometimes a stomp/"bass drum" pedal and a separate mixing desk controlling the ins and outs of the AX8 and the looper, and then again from there to the house PA and/or my Seymour Duncan...

    AX8-edit custom scales?

Yeah, I know about this, but I wanted to know how to do it in AX8-edit, but it seems that it's not possible..?
  16. rednebb

    AX8-edit custom scales?

Thank you, I have set up custom scales in Axe-Fx before, so I know how to do that, but I haven't done this on the AX8 yet, and was hoping I could do it in AX8-edit, of course. If this actually isn't possible, I wonder why..?
  17. rednebb

    AX8-edit custom scales?

How do you create custom scales for the pitch block in AX8-edit? It's kind of strange, when I choose effect type: Cust.shift, no custom scale option shows up, but if I choose effect type: Intel Harm, I can choose key/scale: Custom. But when i try to set up the notes I want in the bottom row...

    Parker tremolo tuning problem

Thanks, but this manual is for the Parker Fly, which has a different type of tremolo. Mine has a more conventional tremolo with a trem block and traditional springs on the backside, even though the bridge looks similar to the Fly tremolo from the outside..

    Parker tremolo tuning problem

Thanks for the suggestions, but like I said, the problem is that the trem block stops in a different position when pulling the trem arm upwards, so it seems that it has nothing to do with the nut and/or the tuning machines, like others also have suggested.. As for lubricating those contact...

    AX8 + Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700 + Matrix Q12x2 = :-)

Well, it sounds FRFR to me, but SD doesn't actually say that it is FRFR. What they do say, is this: "PowerStage 700 is a revolutionary power amp designed specifically for guitarists using modelers, pedals and effects processors to create their tone" and "When you create your tone from a...

    Strange and scary amp/cab incident..

Do you work for Matrix? Anyway, I contacted Matrix earlier about this, but we agreed that shipping the unit to them for service/repair wasn't a very economical option, since I live in Norway.. Strange and scary amp/cab incident..

No, the Q12A was not "killed" in the process, I tested it afterwards, and it worked fine :-). When I tried it with the Magnum 44 the power was of course switched off as it's supposed to be when using it in passive mode (at least I got that right..) And there were no wrong power adapters...

    Strange and scary amp/cab incident..

I have two Matrix Q12A's, but I've had some problems with one of them mysteriously switching itself on and off unexceptedly, so I bought an Ehx 44 Magnum for backup. I tried it for the first time with my AX8 and Matrix Q12A (bypassing the power amp, using the speaker input only) for a band...

Best portable power amp in 2017

Yes, that's the amp used in my pair of Matrix Q12A's :-) But it seems they're not available to buy separately anymore. And this is actually the reason I showed interest in this thread; unfortunately one of my Q12A's has started to fail, so I have started looking for a small power amp to...

    AX8 in live gig

Hello, Lorenzo! I use my AX8 with 4 Roland EV-5 exp pedals ( I normally use one for pre volume, one for post volume, one for wah (auto on) and one for delay/input gain level or other parameters if needed), and it's "plug-and play"-ready in a flightcase originally custom made for a mixing desk...

Interesting, but what ISP model is that (I guess it's not the Stealth Ultra-Lite)?
  40. rednebb

Best portable power amp in 2017

Both the SD Powerstage 170 and the ISP Stealth Ultra-Lite seem very interesting, but are these "guitar voiced" and meant to be used with regular guitar cabinets, or are they clean, flat power amps that can be used successfully in a FRFR setup with FRFR speakers..?

    AX8 harmonizer not so intelligent..?

I guess I could, but I'm not sure if I should..
  44. rednebb

    AX8 harmonizer not so intelligent..?

Yes, an AX8 XL with a top notch pitch/harmonizer block would be cool, but I think it would be even cooler if a firmware upgrade could fix this issue with the existing AX8 (but maybe that's not possible?) And I'm sorry that I lured you into the Axe-Fx world.. ;-)

    AX8 harmonizer not so intelligent..?

I hadn't noticed that thread before. Not promising..

    AX8 harmonizer not so intelligent..?

Ok, so I guess that confirms my suspicion then..
  47. rednebb

    AX8 harmonizer not so intelligent..?

Let me first say that in general I love my AX8, and I don't regret going from Axe-Fx II (and earlier Ultra) + MFC-101 to AX8. But I'm sorry to say that I'm very disappointed with the pitch block, especially the intelligent harmonizer.. Although I never had the chance to compare the units...

    Genelecs for stage monitoring?

They don't have exposed drivers, they have a metal grille, and they seem very sturdy, so I'm not worried about that. And sitting with a B-bender is no problem, as long as you have a strap.. ;-)
  53. rednebb

    Genelecs for stage monitoring?

So around 70000 euros then maybe..? :)
  54. rednebb

    Genelecs for stage monitoring?

Well, so am I, and I think so can I, for the most part.. On most of my gigs I actually also sit or stand at one spot throughout the concert, I don't normally jump around very much.. ;-)
  55. rednebb

    Genelecs for stage monitoring?

Well, both my mentioned friend, the sound guy and also other musicians I've heard of, use them quite regularly and they seem to stand up fine. We're not talking world tours or anything here, I'm working as a guitar teacher on weekdays and normally don't play more than 3-5 gigs per month on...

  57. rednebb

    Genelecs for stage monitoring?

Many here on the forum have mentioned Genelec as an excellent choice for studio monitors, but I wonder if anyone have tried using them for live stage monitoring for their Axe-Fx/AX8? Squealing/feedback problem..

Ok, I've tested with different guitars now, and it seems it's only a substantial problem with one of my guitars; a "parts-o-caster" with Wilkinson "vintage" alnico single-coils. I tried all the above solutions with this guitar, but none of them actually seemed to help very much. So it must be a...
  59. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

I think not. I'm using a clean amp model with a tube drive pedal set to around 3.7..
  60. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Yes, and it's an essential part of my sound, so I don't want to turn it off..
  61. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Ok, I've seen this, but I had the same issue plugging into a regular guitar amp, which of course is not FRFR and doesn't have a tweeter..
  62. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

I had the output level set relatively low, so I doubt that.
  63. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Ok, thanks, I'll try that too..
  64. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Ok, I'll try that when I get the chance tonight. But I guess that will affect the sound quite substantially, especially with acoustic guitars? (or are these bands outside the human ear's capacity anyway..?)
  65. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Any string can start it, but at least on one of my strats the G string is the dominant one.. But as I said, this guitar doesn't cause squealing/feedback with a normal combo set to high (or even higher..) gain at the same (or even louder..) volume in the same room, so again, the problem is...

    Squealing/feedback problem..

  67. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Hm, ok, but is it normal that just touching the string lightly will cause an instant squeal..? Like I said, I've had both the Ultra and the II earlier, and I can't recall having this problem with those.. And also, I want to point out that I'm talking about relatively low gain drive sounds...
  68. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

I had some chance to do some experimenting on my own today, in the same room I rehearsed with the band yesterday, and found that the placement/angling of the Q12A could affect the squealing/feedback a little. And to my surprise, placing the Q12A right behind me (normal amp placeent) seemed to...
  69. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

    Of course..
  70. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Ok, but the Q12A contains a coaxial speaker with no tweeter, AFAIK..? Plus I can't recall having this problem earlier with the Axe-Fx/Q12A setup.
  71. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

Haha.. Reminds me I probably should change that profile picture..
  72. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

    No..
  73. rednebb

    Squealing/feedback problem..

No, the Q12A was placed behind me on an upward angle maybe 6 feet away, like I normally would place a regular combo amp, and I haven't had feedback problems before at same volumes and with same type of drive/high gain sounds, neither with regular combos nor the Axe-Fx. And I wouldn't actually...

Yes, I know about those options. Can't find anything about that Yes, as a matter of fact I have (and a double-neck, too).. ;-)

Global exp pedal volume with Dly/Rev spillover?

Ok, I'm aware of that solution of course, but I was hoping there was a way to do this globally, so I wouldn't have to do this for every preset. And I guess you cannot control delay level globally either, then..?
  87. rednebb

Global exp pedal volume with Dly/Rev spillover?

I have 4 exp pedals hooked up to the AX8, and I want to use #1 for wah (which seems to be default with auto engage already on all (?) I was never gonna use all of them, of course, but there were a few I could actually use...
  91. rednebb

    How many factory presets..?

An oversight, yes, but maybe not minor..
  92. rednebb

    How many factory presets..?

Yes, I understand that of course, but I think it's strange that the manual says there are 512 presets, when most of them are empty (an empty preset isn't actually a preset, IMO..) The II came with 384 factory presets (none of them empty), as far as I can recall..
  93. rednebb

    How many factory presets..?

I just got my AX8, started playing through the different presets, but was surprised to find that only banks 1-16 (plus bank 64) contained factory presets, banks 17-63 were completely empty.. The manual says: "The AX8 contains 512 different presets arranged in 64 numbered banks" But the AX8...

Cool, and thanks for replying :-) So can it be used in "stomp-box-mode", using the "bank down/up" switches to change presets, and then using switches 1-8 to switch effects on/off within each preset?
