Preview of the MidyAX - A new tool to enhance the AXE-FX experience

Well done, Polygap. I just posted about wanting something like this on the AxeFXII Wish List forum and was directed here where I find that inventive and capable minds have been at work already! I agree that a 1RU interface would be ideal.

Using Cab sims into a guitar cabinet

Thanks for the suggestions. I should add that I audition most of my patches at quite low volume at home. That might be something to do with it, I suppose. Yes, I don't mind breaking convention if it works for my ears. Overall, adding the cab sims is not an improvement - the extra vibrancy...

Using Cab sims into a guitar cabinet

My chain is Gibson SG Classic > Ultra > Mesa 20/20 > Marshall1960A. Or I use an oversize 112 with a Celestion V30 for practice. No studio work for me - it's all live playing. Here's the thing - although I know I should not use a cab sim as I don't have an FRFR set-up, presets sometimes...

Anyone using a 1x12 cab, and how does is sound?

I'm using a 1 x 12 oversize cab with a Celestion Vintage 30. I quite like it for low volume, but at band practice I tried a 4x12 Marshall 1960A, which just sounded so much fuller. At those stage volumes, the 112 sounded boxy by comparison. Plenty of people use 112s though, I reckon you can get...

Re: Emulating Edge and others "scratchy pick" I'm sure you are all correct, the dimply pick is the best way. I use 1.0mm Jim Dunlops. They have a dimpled part as well, not sure how it compares with Herdims. Sometimes the sheer power of the AxeFx makes me think virtually anything is possible...

Boston More than a Feeling rhythm tips or patch?

Excellent. Will try that. I assume that there is absolutely no need for an attenuator sim, as we have the power to simply reduce the level of the amp block. so... Chorus - EQ - Marshall Plexi? Or Chorus after the amp? How would one emulate a stereo chorus doubler? Two in parallel, with a short...

Boston More than a Feeling rhythm tips or patch?

I had over-written that but have now retrieved. I'm finding find that since I play into a tube power amp and a guitar cab, a lot of other people's (and factory) presets need a bit of work. It seems like a starting point at least, though. Thanks for the tip.

    Boss GT10 as midi controller

You could definitely use an external dual footswtich plugged into the SUB CTL output, which would also give you some other options But it sounds like you want to avoid that. One way would be to use the CTL pedal (or I think you have 2 on the GT-10). These are not very useful for most things...

    Deep rack for power amp

I assume you mean plugged into a power strip inside the rack? I don't actually use one as it is a 3U rack with just AxeFX and poweramp. I unplug both when I pack it up. For a taller rack, I imagine you couldn't leave it plugged unless using a right angle plug, as you suggest.

Mesa 20/20 - anyone using it with their AxeFx?

I replaced the fan in mine and it was a little noisier than it should have been due to wear, but the replacement still makes a noise - it is the sound of the air moving rather than the fan itself. I bought the ART SLA 2 a couple of months ago to replace a Mesa Boogie 20/20. The ART is pretty good - it doesn't sound harsh or brittle and is definitely more faithful to the Axe output tone. No high E and B. Hmm, I used to play bass, but not any more. I get it though, those double up on a 12-string. If Eventide can do it, I am sure Axe can. Any idea how they do it? Pitch shift but with EQ compensation somewhere? Any idea what frequencies?

Glad to hear your first gig went well. I'm hoping to do mine soon. I am changing back to real power amp and cabs too. The FRFR just doesn't work for me. I used to think my 112 and 210 home made cabs were not that good, but with AxeFX into Mesa Boogie 20/20 they sound great.

Weird "extra" note. Low-freq intermodulation? Able to fix?

Tube amps do, I agree - it is normal. Any two tones will produce inter-modulation. I've even heard an incredibly musical effect coming from a fleet of close-moored prawn trawlers with their engines idling. It was uncanny. All inter-modulation and with more than two input tones. I just find...
