AFIII Def Leppard Hysteria cover with amazing choptones preset

Dude! Fantastic tones. And you seamlessly flow between the three or four different guitar parts -- you made some great choices. (Def Leppard fanboy here)

RED SOUND FRFR Speakers now offered through the Fractal Audio online store!

My Elis.8's arrive on Thursday. I'll report back with my (highly subjective, by no means expert) opinion on listening to music through them, as a secondary use. I have no doubt they'll excel with my FM9 -- primary use, of course.

RED SOUND FRFR Speakers now offered through the Fractal Audio online store!

This certainly got more interesting! My updated impression, based on these latest posts, is that the speakers will do fine playing back recorded music. Not for mixing/mastering, which isn't my goal or question, but for listening for fun, which is. Also I'm hearing from people who use these...

RED SOUND FRFR Speakers now offered through the Fractal Audio online store!

I appreciate the replies RE recorded music playback. It seems pretty clear these are optimized for one purpose, which I appreciate. I think what I need is BOTH the QSC and the Elis.8! Not one or the other. :)

RED SOUND FRFR Speakers now offered through the Fractal Audio online store!

Can anyone comment on listening to recorded music through Elis.8's? I don't mean critical listening like for recording, mixing, mastering, etc. I just mean for fun at bedroom / home volume level. Clearly they're fantastic with Fractal modelers (or any modelers). Can they also be "pretty good"...

    Ownhammer Rock Box libraries

I tried the free G12H pack and it is fantastic. I think this Rock Box collection is a big leap forward for Ownhammer. The G12H just replaced a long-time favorite for my Matchless presets. Try it while it's free! The others are on sale through July 31.

    Wish More FAS Amps

+1000000000000000. I would LOVE these also. Cliff's "original designs" or mods are wonderful. FAS Crunch and Buttery are still two of my favorite models. (And my love affair with Buttery goes back to my Standard and Ultra days.) Also on the short list: Hot Rod, Modern. Slightly off-topic...

Are you using Ultra/Standard in 2021?

Still rolling and still loving my Standard! About a year ago I finally offered it a semi-retirement deal, which it gladly accepted. I bought a II XL, and the Standard became the rig for my guitar students. Which allowed another modeler to retire from that duty, and enjoy its golden years as a...

IRs Introducing the OwnHammer (r)Evolution Impulse Response Series!

Excellent, thank you! It's like Xmas in March. Not to say that there aren't many other excellent mixes to use. It's just that Scott's magic formula always gets it done. Thanks!

IRs Introducing the OwnHammer (r)Evolution Impulse Response Series!

These (r)Evolution libraries are fantastic! But I was sad to see the SP mixes go away with these releases. Or did I miss them somehow? Does anyone have information about this? (Or Ownhammer?) With every previous Ownhammer IR library, I try so many mixes and mic IRs, and inevitably end up coming...

    OwnHammer Basketweave GNR

At a loss for words here . . . From the Core Mixes Quick-Start: OH 412 MRBW GNR SP2-05. Worth the price of admission just for this one IR. Even with all of the awesome mixes and options (many of them new), the SP mixes still just get it right (thanks, Scott!). Ownhammer is on fire. On FIRE I...

How to Stop Unauthorized Gear Acquisition

Another option besides Heritage -- I have coverage for professional music equipment through MusicPro Insurance. At home and outside home coverage. I've had one claim for two stolen guitars over the past 10 years, and they handled it quickly and fairly. I highly recommend them.

New OwnHammer IR’s are absolutely fantastic – Gig report

Thanks for such great information, presented in a very interesting and useful way. Just ordered the Ownhammer Tier 3 Jump Starter Bundle, and I can't wait for the weekend to...

Asteroids do not concern me. I want that video. Sorry, couldn't resist. I actually think that the anticipation of this video with (my hero) Alex Lifeson is just as awesome as being able to see it. Thank you, Scott! We know it will be well worth any wait!

Frustrating situation with using Axe-FX at an open Blues jam

Yes, if you get the soft case for it, which has a handle. The 8ma is small, but dense (check the specs for exact weight), so don't think it's a super light-weight option. But I'm a little dude, and have no trouble with a guitar on my back, duffel with gear in one hand, and 8ma in the other.

Show us your MFC setups! (post your pics)

This is a GREAT idea. If not already, it should be in the Wiki somewhere. So simple, but what a powerful way to calibrate your presets quickly.

Showing up to gigs that expect you to use a backline with the AxeFx...

I hear what you're saying. But think of it this way: in any live sound situation, there are so many variables and so many little things that can go wrong. Any one of those little things can bring your tech setup to a screeching halt. So it doesn't hurt, and costs a small amount of money...

Showing up to gigs that expect you to use a backline with the AxeFx...

LOL!!! Well played, sir. :) But please note that, at these places of ill-repute to which I refer, it would be unwise to assume that: 1. anyone knows where the DI drawer is 2. the guy who has the key to the drawer is there that night

It's standard for the low budget places I work at! If I showed up and saw a drawer of Countrymans, it would mean I was at the wrong gig. :lol I stand corrected, and apologize for conflating level and impendance. But I would still respectfully insist that there can and will be reasons the...

The Whirlwind IMP 2 is a live sound standard, and works fine. Radial makes really nice stuff like the ProDI, and it costs a bit more.

Depending on the stage and venue, the sound crew might need you to connect to the FOH board via a big snake. And the inputs for those huge snakes are often XLR (mic-type of connector) only. So even if you had the kind of cable you point out, you might not be able to run it to the 1/4" line input...

Showing up to gigs that expect you to use a backline with the AxeFx...

-- edited to correct factual errors -- It is because your sound jockey sometimes might prefer, or need, or believe he needs to work with a different type of audio signal than the Axe can provide. In a live sound environment, between stage and the FOH and/or monitors consoles, one is...

+ 1 to all of this great advice. I've been on both sides of this situation (musician and crew), and can confirm that all of these tips will (most likely) make the crew like you, and able to quickly accommodate your rig. I'd just like to particularly emphasize the importance of bringing...

just bought verve 8 ma, have a question

No, that's definitely the wrong cover. I have a pair of 8mas with covers, and the covers fit perfectly. Nice and snug. And the 8ma covers DO have a handle for carrying them. The 8ma is very hard to carry without a cover! They're slippery, and it's hard to get a secure grip except by carrying...

    Introduction thread

Greetings. My name is Justin, and I aspire to become an Axe-FX owner. I write music for film, TV, and the web for a living, and have been using modeling gear in my home studio for over ten years. It started with a Tech 21 pedal, and has evolved / devolved through Line 6, Vox, Boss, Rocktron, and...
