With the news of TigerSharcs stopping production, what does that mean for the Axe Fx?

Oh man, I'm going to keep my Axe Fx II then, because the old TigerShark processors will sound way better than the new ones.

Power Cable for Axe FX II

If you use a new power cable, just make sure you give it time to properly break in or your tone will suffer. That's why I only use vintage power cables. I also purchased a line filter that only lets the older, warmer-sounding electrons into the amp. (Man, I really wanted to say "... or...

Upgraded to Quantum from 16.01... presets sounds shitty

AMEN! It's like "love it or leave it": You'd better love the constant firmware updates, and tweaking things over and over again, or "leave it" - either get rid of your Axe-Fx, or stick with one firmware and never plan on upgrading. And people will jump all over you if you point out the...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 1.00 Firmware Release

Heh. It's kind of funny that my original post sparked a conversation about the nature of firmware updates, placebo effect, hyperboly, etc - a post that got removed by a moderator ;-) For the record, I wasn't accusing FAS of indulging in hyperboly - that's all on our end. ;-) Nor was I saying the...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 1.00 Firmware Release

Wow, I didn't realize our posts were being censored if we voice an opinion that isn't welcome. I was poking fun at the frequent hyperboly around new FW releases - all in good fun, but that got my post deleted. Interesting.

    External Effects

I run an old Ernie Ball volume pedal in front, a (rarely used) non-true-bypass drive pedal as a buffer, and a PolyTune. I use a global volume block, that way it tracks with state changes and I can modify my boost across all my presets. MIDI sync issues?

Thanks for the response Cliff. Is synching to MIDI downbeat something that you can eventually implement, or is there some basic hardware or software issue prohibiting it? If it's simply not possible, then that's just the way it is. I'd think (don't you love when us users arm chair program?)...

    MIDI sync issues?

    MIDI sync issues?

And here comes FW20, with more things I don't need, and the MIDI clock sync issue still being ignored. I was asked not to address questions on this forum to Cliff, because he reads them all anyway...but as far as I can tell this issue is still falling on deaf ears.

    MIDI sync issues?

Dang. I was hoping sending 0 and 127 to CC14 would be a straightforward solution. As to your question of how hard would it be to implement standard MIDI clock, start/stop, etc., obviously only Fractal can answer that, but it seems our woes are falling on deaf ears so far (the issue has existed...

    MIDI sync issues?

Oh thanks Bakerman. So, in a real setting, I'd need to send 0, 127 to CC122 each loop start, not each bar, correct? If it's a 4 bar phrase I'm looping, I'd need to send 0 then 127 every 4 bars, yeah? I'm now wondering: if I send CC14 (tap tempo) from Ableton to the Axe on each down beat, will...

    Windows 10 Kills For Audio

Actually, it is worthwhile. MIDI sync issues?

One would hope that given the power and flexibilty of the Axe-Fx that it would be possible for Fractal to implement System Real-Time Message Start (FAh) / Continue (FBh) and get full MIDI time sync working. It IS the most powerful guitar effects processor in the world, we aught to be able to...

Cliff, what are your thoughts/ideas/plans regarding the MIDI clock sync issue with the Axe? While certainly not everyone is hooking their Axe up to other MIDI gear, it's definitly being done and people are having issues with the lack of clock sync. Is there a way to address this in the next...

Yeah, I certainly haven't noticed a difference, and if there is a slight difference, it hasn't effected me. I just found it interesting that someone had actually measured a difference. MIDI time sync problems

Well, pretty much you're screwed, sorry to say. I've been working on getting the Axe to sync with Albeton Live (tried 8 and tried 9, tried via USB and via MIDI) and until Fractal fixes the issue, it's a show stopper. Ableton (also tried Cubase) will send the tempo to the Axe, the Axe's tempo...

Agreed. As long as it sounds good, I'm in. The ease and flexibility of the interface goes a LONG way towards helping dial in the sound you want. Guthrie Govan - using an FX8 with Aristocrats

Whoa! That's a new addition for him. I saw them in Seattle two weeks ago and he was using the same (analog) pedal board I'd seen in the past. How many presets do you use?

Yeah, nice. I sometimes think "oh no, I'm under utilizing the Axe" (or any complicated piece of gear), then I realize I don't HAVE to make things complicated - in fact it often just distracts from playing. Scenes and global blocks have helped to keep things simpler, though I'm still doing the...

How many presets do you use?

Nice. Thanks for the input. I do a very similar approach, except scene 1 and 2 are clean or clean-ish (depending on the song), 3 is usually medium dirty, 4 is solo, 5 is "special" - a big tremolo in one song, or a big reverb+delay in another where I do some volume swells. I did forget about the...

How many presets do you use?

Have you guys had any issue dialing in patch levels across all the presets? For example, when I switched to the 2x12 guiltar cab I'm currently using, I made some...

Personally I've never jived with the Axe-Fx's tuner (MFC or on the Axe) - I just don't like the way it responds. I keep a PolyTune2 on my board, in front of my EB volume pedal. Resetting or zeroing a value on the Axe-Fx

I understand that you can reset an entire block by clicking bypass twice (or holding it for a few seconds), but how about just resetting a single parameter that you're adjusting? For example, I'll find myself wanting to quickly set a value to zero dB and it's a bit fiddly trying to dial in 0.0...

I know direct recording with the Axe is all the rage, (and it's very convenient) but there's nothing like the interaction of a loud amp and speakers with the guitar for pushing out the sustain in a natural way.

I can give you some input on a few of these: 1) How easily does the Axe-FX deal with switching between piezo and magnetic pickups on the fly? No experience here, though it shouldn't be an issue. The Axe has multiple inputs as well, so you have options for how you want to route things (which...

    CHARACTER, CHARACTER FREQ

I wonder if some of that may be due to the volume circuit in your guitar. Some guitars thin out when you roll back the volume, due to a treble bleed capacitor. I've gone out on a limb a couple times now and said that I like the sound of my Matrix 800 BETTER than my VHT 2/90/2. Help with X/Y States

Ah, okay. That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I may try the method I described a few posts up, which is similar, but keeps the IA switch in Axe Mode. If it works I'll start a new thread describing how to do it on the chance that someone else ever wants to try it. Thanks again.

    Side by side comparison

I've been very happy using a regular guitar cab (2x12 as well) since it helps to give some consistency to my sound across presets, and helps give your time-tested, standard guitar amp in the room sound. I'm sure some see it as a limitation (and argue you can just stick with one cab block and run...

    What fx is this

It kind of just has that old Fender Tweed Deluxe sound, where the amp is adding that natural, slightly broken-up and chimy warble. Hm. I tried that a while back and had some issues. Maybe something has changed with more recent firmware, or maybe I didn't try that exact set up. I should revisit that approach. It's simpler for sure. So you have an IA set to Amp1 Bypass, then set Amp 2 bypass to the same CC (37). How do you...

My approach to this has been to use two amp blocks (in the same preset), one set to clean and the other set to medium-light gain. Help! Thinking of purchasing an axe fx ii this weekend

I don't think the Axe is a magical, miracle box that will transform your guitar tone into something heretofore unimaginable, but it really is a great unit. Setting up volume pedal with MFC 101 and Axe-Fx II

Myself, I've taken to using a volume/pan block for my volume pedal needs rather than tying the pedal to input or output volume. Consistentcey

My formula for consistency, first off, is to use only two amp blocks - a clean amp, and a dirty amp, and to make them global blocks. Who here uses real pedals along with their AxeFX?

My rig went on a gear diet when I switched to the Axe Fx from a TC g-system. So other than expression (Mission), tuner (PolyTune2), a...

    Beat sync / Metronome out

Another idea that I think will work, though I haven't verified it: Use the looper in your patch, but don't feed it any input (unless you want), drop a mixer block after it and direct its output to only go to Out2, which you'll feed to the drummer.

I've be curious to have someone open up an EV-1 and report if there's room under that raised rectangle in front of the rack (the slider with teeth) where a switch could be mounted. Amen to that. Case in point, I recently switched over to using an expression...

Exactly. The end at the Axe will only have 5 pins, and the Axe will never receive any of the power sent into the barrel connector from the external power supply. Whether to get Axe Fx II XL for recording

Check out the JBL LSR305 monitors - they are not only a great bang for the buck, they're on par with many monitors costing 5x as much. The HR824's are just so-so in comparison, while costing a bit more. (I've done direct comparisons and I always go back to the JBL's).

Cab in series vs. Stereo Cab

I might not be understanding what you're asking. You'd want to run the two mono cab blocks in parallel, not series, or you'd be feeding the output of one cab into the next cab block. So, as described example 1 and 2 above would be different. Example 1 would quite likely sound pretty muddy.

I will say, of all the monochromatic screen colors, green is the best. Blue is the absolute worst. Ever notice how any pedal with blue LEDs always seems to blind you? Ever noticed how the sky is blue? It's because water molecules scatter blue wavelengths more than other colors. Blue LEDs are...

    PLEASE PLEASE HELP IM STUMPED!!!

I recently updated the firmware on my MFC and it messed up some settings. Mostly IA assignments, but also a couple other things. At first I thought it had simply gotten reset to factory settings, but the majority of my modifications were still in place. So it sounds like the most recent MFC...

Wait a sec...I thought I was joining the Fractal Cult when I bought my Axe Fx II. I want my money back!

I don't understand the hate for the green screen...

I will be happy when the screen is updated (except that will prompt me to upgrade, and that'll hit the pocket book hard). I don't buy the argument that Axe Edit replaces the need for a better screen. Everyone's usage is different, but my guitar rig lives at our rehearsal space half-an-hour away...

Whats the best way to record raw signal into my DAW?

Agreed. I like to get a good sound, and stick with it. You can gently carve it with eq to make it sit in the mix properly. I also err on the lighter side when it comes to distortion because compression during production/post-production increases the perception of how much gain you used.

Whats the best way to record raw signal into my DAW?

You can use the effects send block inserted at the beginning of the grid - that will send the dry signal out the effects send (output 2) of the Axe Fx. Send that into one of your inputs in the Scarlett to capture the dry guitar. Then send Output 1 L/R to the Scarlett to capture and/or monitor...

    Simple Scenes question

You bet. Good luck. Incidentally, scenes was one of the big selling factors that made me move to the Axe Fx. Having one patch per song instead of 5 has really simplified things, and the seamless switching between scenes is really nice to have.

    Simple Scenes question

They will once you've saved the state of a given scene with that effect off. The default is for each scene to have each effect enabled, so unfortunately if you add an effect that you only want on in one scene, you have to go to each scene and turn it off, save, then repeat for the next scene...

    Simple Scenes question

Yeah. (crossed posted, but brokenvail also explained it). What you want to do is, for a given scene, turn on/off the effects you want, then save the patch. Do that for each scene. The (or one) basic idea with scenes is that it's a way to turn on/off multiple items with only a single push of a...
