Tone Match - Have you used it? Tips?

Thanks, that was helpful! I thought it would be helpful to have one place specifically where tips could be located, but yes, I know there are already various posts that can be found using the search function. Something along the lines of "I found it really helpful if you ..."

Tone Match - Have you used it? Tips?

I'm considering using Tone Match for the first time and wondered if anyone else has used it and gotten positive results? Also, I'd welcome any tips you may have that will help in getting the best Tone Match captures. Thanks!

    1 week with Fm9...might stick with Fm3

I love my Axe FX III/FC-12 rig. I took it to a rehearsal once and realized that a more compact rig would be more user friendly. I had the III in its Gator bag, the FC-12 in its Gator bag and my guitar all with me in the passenger seat of my drummer's pickup truck with little room for my feet. I...

    Deadpool’s FM9 Review

I liked the FC-12 with the III because I could have my presets on the bottom row and effects on the top row. That way I didn't have to do a tap dance to get wherever I wanted. But adding it to the FM9, six gain presets on the bottom row of the FC-12 and six effects on the top row, what would I...

I like having that as an option. That's why, even when I get the FM9, I'll be tempted to keep the FM3.

Yeah, that's not going to happen Jungovila. Think about other stuff, play what you have. Someday the invite will appear in your Inbox. I've found it's a much more pleasant experience if you don't even think about it and let it be a pleasant surprise one day.

Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

I'm the same way but I'm sticking with Fractal because their products are excellent and I've invested significant time in learning how to use their gear. The other companies have little to offer that would make me want to dedicate an equal amount of time in learning their systems and how to get...

Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

It was on another forum. A few people mentioned it, I asked about it, and eventually Cliff confirmed it. No wealth of information, just confirmation by the company that the FX8 was a better choice than the FM3 for 4CM but again, people are using the FM3 in the 4CM with good results. It's just...

Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

It's been posted many times that the FX8 was a better choice for 4CM than the FX3 and acknowledged by Fractal. With that said, many have used the FM3 in the 4CM successfully without problems.

Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

It's not hard, but carrying a FM3 in a Gator bag and a guitar on your back in a gig bag is much easier to transport in situations where you don't need the power of the III or 12 footswitches. I like to vacation in Europe during the summer, attend the North Sea Jazz Festival, do some hosteling...

Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

😆 I don't anticipate reading scribble scripts onstage. It shouldn't be hard to memorize which footswitches do what and that will be aided by color coding. Unless you use a ton of effects and bunches of presets it shouldn't be an issue. Of course people have different methodologies...

Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

Cliff did comment on this a few pages back. You should read his comment but to paraphrase he said that the FM9 has the specially developed analog circuit that the III and FX8 have that make it the better choice for the 4CM.

    Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 11 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta #8

That's not my experience at all. Thinking of upgrading FM3

That's my situation as well. The III is a permanent part of my studio rig and the FM3 is for playing out or practicing in the living room. I've never run out of horsepower with the FM3 so any differences between the two are moot since I'm not installing Cygnus until the non-beta version is...

Do you have a III? If so, have you been using presets with dual amps? And if so, do you hear major improvements over presets with a single amp? Thanks to everyone for testing out the beta version of 2.0 and finding the bugs that will enable Fractal to get it sorted before the official release of the 2.0 firmware. This is a really helpful process.
  38. stratzrus

Wow. Awesome tones. No comparison to previous generation IMHO

On the flip side, I don't feel like it's a step down from the III tone wise. I use both and the FM3 definitely holds its own.

I started out using one of the early powered cabs (forget the manufacturer). Then a Randall RT2/50 into a Fryette FatBottom 2x12 and then finally a pair of pole mounted Atomic CLRs. The Randall/Fractal rig sounded really good...definitely amp in the room tone. But the pole mounted Atomics...

Finally, a real gig with the FM3!

I'm well too familiar with my limitations and know that multi-function switches where you need to remember what does what would not work for me in a live gigging situation. That's why, despite it being fairly huge, I bought the FC-12. I set up the top row with the effects I use most often and...

No freeze ups for me but I haven't done anything fancy with it, no imported presets, no using the editor. I edited two factory presets including amp swaps and have been playing using those. MFC-101 MKII???

Is 6.0 supposed to be out today?

I think it's a mistake to ever render yourself unable to play in anticipation of something being released. Most common is people selling off a piece of gear that's essential to their rig in order to buy the new as yet unreleased thing based on an announced shipping or release date. I always...

AXE FX 2 damaged with 9 volt battery

It's a bad idea to ever connect an output to an output, and as others have hinted, there is no such thing as a "headphone input", what you are referring to is the headphone jack or headphone output.
  57. stratzrus

Is 6.0 supposed to be out today?

Thanks for the update Cliff. I can't do the install until the weekend but it's great to know where things are.

Great demo of the IR feature, but regarding your first point; go direct into what? Most of my gigs have no FOH so the question for me is go amp and cab or go FRFR. I'm not yet convinced that I'd prefer FRFR, it would constitute additional expense (I can use the amp and cab I already have), and...

    Your desert island electric guitar?

I'd take my American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS QMT. With 10 pickup positions that include series and parallel wiring it does everything from Jazz to chicken pickin. Combined with the Axe FX I'd have every tone under the sun available.
  60. stratzrus

The thread about adding profiling is gone

I don't know about "people"...if you're in a cover band, that's what you do. But personally I like the Axe FX's ability to let me create the tone in my head and that's why I prefer it. If I wanted the exact tone of a Plexi I'd probably have one. Instead, I prefer to take the base tone of a...

  62. stratzrus

The thread about adding profiling is gone

To my knowledge, Kepmer only has a patent pending and if Cliff uses a different technique it would be irrelevant even if granted. I would be really surprised if Cliff's version used the exact same technique as the KPA.

Axe FX II and the Seven Cable Method

Is it possible with the Axe II to do a seven cable method? In effect it would be like the 4CM but using two heads for a stereo rig. The idea would be to have access to both tube preamps and tube power amps but use the Axe FX for drive in front of, and delay after the tube preamps (or Axe FX...

How do I listen to my axe through headphones?

It sounds like you have a connector problem, either in the unit, the adapter, or the phones. The adapter is the likely culprit, but it could be any of the three. Try the phones with something else and wiggle the connector. Then try a different adapter with the Axe FX. If there's still no...

  69. stratzrus

Axe Fx II Headphones question + Problem.

I would assume that the headphone out on the Axe II is there for convenience and not intended for mixing. I wouldn't bet that either headphone output (Axe II or your computer) is of particularly high quality in comparison to a dedicated headphone amplifier but that's just a guess on my part.
  70. stratzrus

Gone back to FV2.00 for now. Anyone else?

I'm not switching yet. I've got a big gig coming up and need to spend my time writing and rehearsing at this point, not tweaking parameters. I'll probably switch after the gig though.
  71. stratzrus

only go for solid state with the Axe??

Agreed. I'm using a Randall RT2/50 with my Axe II and is sounds great as well. I first tried it with the amp and cab sims off but found that it sounds much better with the amp sims on but no speaker sims. My amp uses 6L6s like the Atomics and I think that tube is better suited for this...

IIRC I read a post where Cliff mentioned the reliability of the fan he chose over the others. If the fan fails during a period of extended usage (i.e. onstage where you wouldn't hear it) it could prove to be costly.
  74. stratzrus

    heavy duty ethernet cable?

The one problem is that CAT5 connectors are so weak, they are really not designed for this level of heavy duty usage where someone may kick the cable and put quite a bit of strain on the connector. I'm considering installing Ethercon connectors but don't want to void my warranty so I would...
