    1961 strat build.

Thanks Andy. Neither do I. I have lots of different guitars (also around 30) I have some with a 16" radius (mainly my Larkins) with tall frets and they do indeed feel very comfortable. This is exactly my thoughts. Although I have fairly big hands and sausage fingers - I have a very tight grip...

    1961 strat build.

Andy, you said that a 16" radius makes it play like a Suhr. But on the Suhr website, I can't find a guitar with a 16" radius. Most are compound radii of 10"-14" I thought you mentioned it somewhere what the difference between different neck radii is but I can't find it. Care to share your...

Strat pups similar to Burns Tri Sonics

I thought as much. It seems Adeson and Yonderbosk make decent Tri Sonics. I was thinking of putting it in a mahogany body/neck configuration with a short scale neck.

Strat pups similar to Burns Tri Sonics

I'm interested in a Brian May Red Special because it's such an unique guitar with a very unique voice. But I don't like the control layouts so much. I wanted to experiment with pups that are similar in sound and was wondering if anyone ever came across single coils that sounded similar. I've...

Upgrade from EZD to Superior Drummer??

I've been using EZD for uite some time now and I feel like it's time to move on. I like using separate channels for each sound and it seems like SD3 offers so much more than EZD. In EZD it depends on the kit what you get as separate channels. With SD, you get all, or am I wrong? Also, I like the...

Tim Pierce Shout Out to Fractal & the FM9

Tim Pierce is great. Nice of him to mention Fractal this way. Also nice he paid some attention to Blackmore who, as fas as I'm concerned, is one of the most underrated guitar players ever. Modern Guitars, Then and Now.

No worries....I sold it. But I've got an even worse one.....a Brian Moore with the whole Graphtech shebang and a Sustainiac  I'm not playing that one anymore though. It arrived with a hairline crack that developed into a full cracked neck. I sent it back for repairs but it arrived again...

    Modern Guitars, Then and Now.

I later bought a Brian Moore i9F. I was kinda sure the electronics would fit since BM made these also with the whole Graphtech package. I had to rout a cavity for the battery box and add the 3 switches and a 13-pins out. As you can see, the electronics fitted quite nicely:

    Modern Guitars, Then and Now.

I always preferred the Kramer Stagemasters to the Jackson Soloists. Much cheaper with genuine Floyd trem, Seymour Duncan pups and Schaller tuners
  21. MisterE

So what's the deal with 24 fret guitars

I prefer the sound of the neck pickup in the strat position (24th fret) to the one on a 24 fret geetar. I always feel the neck pup on a 24 fretter sounds more like the 4 th position on a strat, in between neck and middle.

Scalloped neck refret , is it possible?

Which size do you recommend or should I get all three - they're less than the Z-file?
  32. MisterE

Scalloped neck refret , is it possible?

Well, I won't be able to do this since I've got absolutely no idea were to get this. So, the only option is buying new. Are there any tools in the StewMac (or any other) catalogue you would recommend? What about the Z-file for crowning?

Kinda reminds me of my Irish twin, the late Chris Larkin. He didn't have a lot of tools and made lots himself.

Again a very informative topic. The frets look really clean. Top notch job. Any suggestion for tools for beginners for basic fret jobs -no refretting but things like crowning, leveling, deaing with frets sticking out,...?

That's what I'm planning to do. And I'm not buying these as sort of an investment for me but for my (only) son. Collectible Strats

Oh, and I like big head Strats and I'm particularly fond of the Antigua finishes. In fact, back in '78 when I bought my Stratocaster at the Fender Soundhouse in London, they just had those in and I was seriously thinking about buying that instead of the natural one.

My first good guitar was a '78 strat that I totally messed up and sold. I keep going back to the Stratocaster, even after owning 30+ guitars. After getting the 1980 Strat and reading all the topics about Strats, I got interested in maybe collecting Strats. That is, the ones that are worth...

    OGD - 1980 Strat

And pickups? I have some with Kinmans, which sound great but are not true single coils as you mentioned before. For this one, I would prefer something more vintage sounding, late 60's perhaps.

    OGD - 1980 Strat

I also noticed it comes with the spring inserts, so that should help too, not? They are quite a bit more expensive than the Gotoh though. I found one on reverb: €57,5 + €11,90 shipping The Fender is €159 at Thomann

I had a seller contacting me that his account had been frozen by Paypal after I bought a guitar from him. Apparently, if you've never sold over €2500 in one year, you'll have to verify your acount. In the meantime, you won't be able to withdraw any money.

I wish they developed a finish that fades fast or scratches easily. So you'd be actually have the ability to relic it yourself just by playing it. The polyurethane finish is hard as a rock and won't thin out unless you play with wristbands of sandpaper.
