are these the same type of 4x12's? have to scroll down...
+1 on this...one knob that controls the FM curves...then add to the new performance feature in the axe 3...easy.
Although you would have to dial in your presets based on the initial curve setting...which would be required.
But perhaps the global eq would work as well if you created 4 FM curves...
It looks like they offer it for US delivery direct for $888 dollars and $33.80 for shipping.
I like this if it’s really that good...the 3 inputs could be very useful.
The angular design, I see 1-pole mount, 2-monitor, 3-straight up,
Yes on the meters.
Thank you for responding!
First off, @Mark Scrivener found the first inaccuracy in the lack of mic signal and that part is corrected.
But I think there is a bug in that the pictures above show I was configured for input 2 yesterday, yet today when I booted up the Axe I...
@2112 ...uh oh...that is one of the coolest things i’ve seen yet in a fractal update...thank you leon! :)
I get it...contextually trying to arrive at a sound just got way easier and experimentation’s door has been kicked open!
No more navigating thru blocks...just grab the relevant parameters...
now that i’ve seen a pic of the atomic clr with the grille off... egads it’s not a coaxial...it’s a hf driver suspended over the woofer:
When I designed a mid range horn inset in the mid bass of a design, I had to calculate the size of the horn relative to the mid bass to ensure the mid bass...
@Mark Scrivener Mark, thanks for the suggestion. I had input 2 for stereo originally...tried input 2 as left only and exact same result.
Global IO settings
mic pre input to axe fx
reference and local shots
tone match result
Answering myself here:
Got an email from eminence technical support:
The coaxial woofers will accept any 1" exit with an 1 3/8" mounting screw.
This includes the F110M-8, APT:50, and ASD:1001.
You can also use a B2S-A adaptor to mount 1" exit bolt-on drivers.
Sent another email but I believe...
Great Plains Audio:
makes a very expensive 12" coaxial that weighs a lot but I bet it's one of the finest you can buy:
makes very expensive 15/16" coaxials that I know are of the finest quality...
@Tom Morris ...understood & thanks
The driver installed: Recommended Crossover 2.5 kHz / 18 dBkHz
right, you’ll never get to 1.6 kHz
The 2002s: Recommended Crossover 1.2 kHz / 12 dBkHz
I see where yer going...it is quite a bit heavier at 4.7lbs
I kind of like this driver:
The neodymium driver...
Yes, many times. :)
I need to re-engage with product support on this.
My test setup is easy:
1 mic into one hi end analog mic pre into an input in the axe(I used to use my rme's mic pre but wanted to simplify the problem)
1 guitar with piezo pickups into the front panel
1 preset with a tone...
Looks like the Xitone cabs use the speakers mentioned in this thread...
-the active wedge:
—Eminence Beta 12CX Coaxial driver
—Eminence ASD:1001 tweeter
-the Michael Britt cab(pretty sure)
the dayton amp xitone uses: 4.8 lbs (edit: Mick says he uses the older version of...
First, no matter how many times I’ve tried, I can’t tone match my acoustic’s output against a traditional mic.
Having said that I finally did the right thing and used a mic.
I had a one channel grace design model 101 preamp sitting in a box collecting dust.
An AKG 451 mic.
A Mark Knopler...
running logic pro a loaded 28 core mac pro is only 38% faster than an 18 core loaded imac pro?
Am I reading that right? I think I’m dissappointed...i bet the price plus imac quality display is astronomical...hmmmm
new imac or imac pro i guess
Yes, the fun is in the doing and most folks aren’t good at this kind of thing. That’s why I bought the Axe. :) But if you know what you are doing...a hot rod blows the doors off the stock car.
Finding all the different 12 and 15 inch coaxial types needs some thought still.
Understood...but you have a choice which one you use...
This is the tweeter the measurements for the 12 + 15 were derived:
then there’s a neodymium:
...and a few...
look at the crown amps, the crossover can bi-amp, crossover, eq, compress, limit, etc....that is a cool project amp!
i could use this same amp then for discrete components, my old altec 15” duplexes, the above speakers, etc. !
that’s why it is a project thread, ha
so go ahead and purchase one of those wrapped up cheap solutions with profit margin for your axe3...i’ll do something like this instead. :)
...but i’ll update the above links, thanks
There was a discussion concerning “not hearing” differences when power tubes were changed. I noticed this too. The thread was this fella:
It might be nice to have an option to disable...
Not taking it out of context...I’ve read the entire thing...but no worries mate...
The point I was trying to make is simply if you substitute tubes, changes to parameters are occurring which has a basic effect of normalizing the sound. I’m not saying its perfectly normalized. So in effect if...
Clif...from the wiki:
Well, the fact is that power tubes do NOT sound different.
So, they offer tube substitution capability, yet they are all normalized in the model to sound the same when changed...okay, got it. :)
In terms of the developed technical capacity of American guitar players—and we could all put a few names on that—some of them are great musicians and some aren't. Do I consider the advance in overall technical standards to be worthwhile? Well, it hasn't affected the musicianship or the...
My thinking is I’m looking for a sound and that sound is a system of “things”. THAT’s why I dig the Axe. In one preset, you can get the whole enchilada. While the statement about firmware updates changing a sound you’ve perfectly nailed is true, well that’s just the game you need to play. If...
-looking to improve the jazz tone
-Used the first 2x12 brownface with the crown 160.
-On its own, it sounds thin...no bottom end...not too much high end
-mixing with the cab i’ve been using...interesting
-will need some time to experiment but...
-it made the mid range pop...and better than...
if anyone’s interested:
-connected my jbl srx812p speakers via their ethernet inputs to the wifi
-downloaded the SRX Connect app to my iPad
-opened up the app
-it found both speakers
-renamed them left and right
-controlled volume, played with the eq capabilities...very cool!
This next link may be more topical in the discussion of relative major/minor theory. I recently ran across this video and could appreciate the methodical way they discussed re-harmonizing progressions. Interesting, no! :)
If you want to kick this up a notch...oh and welcome to the world of jazz....check out Barry Harris and the 6th diminished system:
edit: right at the beginning he discusses this method contains a dominant for the major and a dominant for the relative minor. Barry Harris is wonderful!:)
Must be a reason I don’t yet understand, and it is not a request for anything other than getting to know the axe. I checked the first 100 presets and it seems the output levelling volume is performed in the Amp block. In no case was the volume > -5.5. Then I played the presets and I’ve got a...
I’ve been thinking similarly lately. An FM3 and 1 or 2 active cabs is such an easy setup!
I’d be interested in the cab selection you decide!
I’ve got a 45 year old 15” JBL in a box I like, but I also like stereo and light and active too. Just can’t figure it out yet...I’ve also got a matching...
David Letterman’s Top 10 “Why would anyone sell their Axe-Fx 3 if it’s so great?”
10 - They missed the joy of watching the power transformer of their tube amp explode and catch fire at a gig
9 - They couldn’t get enough hiss in their tone
8 - They just couldn’t understand why Clif wouldn’t...
I had some acoustical batting I had used on some speaker cabinets I had designed and some double-sided tape.
Side note: Actually a music studio I frequented used to use maxi-pads to dampen drums back in the day, and that would work too. Hey, it’s that time of the month for my axe! :)
Bought the noctua fan...i didn’t experience a quieter fan...actually added a resonant noise that didn’t exist before. BUT, the rubbery standoffs are quieter. So I mounted the original fan...much better. Then I noticed the case top is plate metal...added padding to the inside of the case top and...
Switches can be added...okay that’s good.
But the sound of the III is the attention placed into the quality of the analog outs and the processing power...and these two are limiting factors. I would prefer to lose blocks than lose audio quality if a trade off is made trying to stay under a 1000...
Did you do this for your unit?
Does Fractal recommend a high end replacement for studio use?
Is there an opinion on the quietest/highest quality fan replacement in the community here?
Is it essentially a fairly easy/drop-in replacement?
It seems like a worthy upgrade to perform for studio...
It’s funny, I used to gig with 2 tube screamers and an ibanez chorus pedal into a fender twin. So 3 switches would have been perfect. The trouble is there are so many goodies in the box you can’t help wanting more. I’m still not on the fc wait list, I thought it would clear up by now, I was...
JP needs to step in a big pile shhhhhhhaving cream.
be nice and clean...
Shave everyday and you’ll always look keen. :)
Personally, I'd like to hear from the preset masters like @austinbuddy and @Moke and any others that their preset packs are tweaked for this release. I'll take the plunge when they give the "all systems go". :)
