It’s not hard to imagine Cliff thinking “No good deed goes unpunished.” When the AFX III MKII was released, it was made explicitly clear that the MKII had additional memory to allow functionality that the MKI would not share. Cliff has let it be known that he has something cool in mind for the...

Yep. They ship with D’Addario NYXL Lights. 10-46. (Love the NYXL – I use Super Lights – 09-42 – on my Strat.) D’Addario also makes NYXL sets for the Strandberg 7- and 8-strings.

Of course, I’m biased … but I acclimated to the neck pretty much instantly … and I love it. I was marveling at the way my thumb naturally tracked the best position up and down the neck. Just great design. When’s the last time I saw a piece of high-tech gear inspire people to divest of their...

    The New Dune Movie Trailer…

I’m a huge Lynch fan, and felt there was much to like about his realization of Dune. (I could have done without Toto – YMMV.) Killer Acoustic IR’s!

It’s fantastic to have IRs that are designed specifically for the Taylor Expression System 2 pickups. What more could you ask for, while playing your Taylor? (I realize your T-5 has different pickup choices, but those E2 IRs are just married to my Taylors.)

I don't think serious music mastering is ever going to adopt Dolby Atmos to replace stereo.

I forgot to mention – specifically – that I’m feeling a little verklempt about the yoots of today having inferior “surround®” being foisted off on them as the “real thing.” And I’ve been living in Rhode Island since 1973, so I don’t want to hear any malarky about “neither a road, nor an...

I don't think serious music mastering is ever going to adopt Dolby Atmos to replace stereo.

iarsee – it sounds like you’ve been listening (to say, Tom Sawyer) on an actual multi-speaker surround system. I’m totally into that. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) Have you heard it (“it” meaning Dolby Atmos) with nothing but headphones or a set of stereo speakers?
  39. randyman

I don't think serious music mastering is ever going to adopt Dolby Atmos to replace stereo.

I’m working on it! It’s going to take a while for me to have enough material to gig with, but I’ll let people know when it’s ready … and if you’re near RI, come check it out. It sounds great in my studio, so far … (IMHO) I’ve been doing this since the early ’70s, when Brown’s electronic music...
  40. randyman

I don't think serious music mastering is ever going to adopt Dolby Atmos to replace stereo.

I think there’s a major marketing problem with using the name “Dolby Atmos” to describe both: a. the true multi-channel, multi-speaker surround system (including speakers for height) used both in theaters and in sophisticated home surround systems, and b. the 2-channel headphone or...

    Killer Acoustic IR’s!

So, how (roughly) are you laying out the patches? Guitar into a couple of cabs with the IRs, panned left and right? Thanks for the referral … I just grabbed the 614 as well. Should be quite the upgrade for my Koa 214ce. :)

    New to Fractal

Since I took a while to save up for my Ultra (and the Axe-FX II, and the Axe-FX III) I always had plenty of time to study the manuals before the gear arrived. I loved doing it! 🆕 Axe-Fx III Cygnus Factory Presets "Enhanced" - Preview 1

Just last night, I helped a good friend install an excellent new KEF wireless stereo system. Among other things, he is a fan of Beefheart and early Zappa. He complained about some of the content in Joe’s Garage, which he had only heard the beginning of, and just once. I asked if he had heard...

Axe-Fx III Cygnus Factory Preset Banks A, B, and C

Scenes are dependent on the structure of the preset they reside in. If a second preset is structured differently, or simply contains elements the first preset does not (or vice versa) there’s no correlation between the two that would allow a simple copy/paste operation.

Headphone recommendation ( Really need one)

I am a long-time fan of Grado headphones. Wonderful sound, very comfortable for extended wear … they’re all open-backed, so if you need silence for mic recording or those around you, they’re not the best choice … but that’s not an issue with me. The Grado SR225x comes in at – you guessed it -...

Looking to buy Axe fx3 BUT!!!!!

You’ll see many of the people on the forum upgrading through the Axe-FX/Axe-FX Ultra/Axe-FX II/Axe-FX III chain. Over the past 12 years, I’ve owned the last three in that series, and upgrading twice cost me very little because I take care of my gear, and the resell value is so high. I never at...

I know ... I know.... An other Headphone Question ...

I’ve always been very fond of Grados; their on-ear SR325x is a real workhorse, and their over-ear models are sublime, with huge ear cups that make you feel like you’re playing in a room. They’re open-air, so they’re not appropriate if you’re trying to be silent or record with a mic … but I love...

A few days ago, I ordered a .strandberg* Prog 6 Neck-Thru Natural. I originally planned to get a Prog 7, but all that empty space where the bolt-on neck would usually connect was just too tempting. (The neck-thru models only come as 6-strings.) I don’t know exactly when it will arrive...

    Axe-Fx III Cygnus Presets - Banks A & B Preview

This one’s for Admin M@. As a lifelong keyboardist working on developing guitar skills, I don’t have the experience that many of your users have with amps, cabs, pedals, etc. – so the factory presets have always been important to me, as examples of what the Axe-FX can do when configured by...

What setting is causing the softest of touches on the string to not emit sound?

You’ll want to use different threshold settings for different patches. High gain patches, for example, are generally more likely to exhibit background noise than say, cleans … so you can expect to adjust the threshold setting accordingly. But phil92 is right; you don’t want to throw the baby...

    A couple of discoveries

Norman Greenbaum's "SPIRIT IN THE SKY" tone

One quick memory – United Airlines once used Spirit in the Sky in a TV commercial, and I still remember the shot of a beautiful airborne 747 sweeping slowly past the camera, sunlight glinting off the upper deck, while Russell DaShiell’s “beep beep” pulsing string bends matched its motion...
