How many prefer patches to scenes and vice versa...also why do you prefer?

Patches for me. My patches all have the same fx, and I build banks of 5 where the amp changes. That is gain/we adjustments as well as amp type changes. I build them with a similar base tone, and have a different set for each type of base tone. Each amp has two gain levels as well So each...

    Keyboard amps >= FRFR units?

Same as has been posted. Keyboard amps sent even good for keys. I put my rd2000/dsi rig through a a wc k10.2 for onstage monitoring/small venue backline. At a sound ok through it too, but I still prefers my 2x12 and fryette power station. Yet to try a clr though.

Need help - cant get stereo (ping pong delay) from a cab

Input is set to stereo. Moving the delay block post cab does make it work - but as I split my signal pre cab and send one to my power amp via OP 2 then the other through the cab ir - I kind of need the delay pre cab (I know Im not getting ping pong via the amp/cab but thats fine). I tried the...

Need help - cant get stereo (ping pong delay) from a cab

So - Ive been an amp/cab guy for my whole AFX life (10 years now) - but recently Ive re-arranged things at home and its easy to use my monitors and IRs - and as such Ive been playing around with cabs for pretty much the first time. Thing is, I cant get a ping pong delay from my cabs. If I...

This. If they dont physically have a unit available they cant dispatch it to you, and if they had units available there wouldnt be a wait list. Im 100% sure you'll get the next available unit. On Cross shipping... Although Im n the UK I dont know of a single company that will do this. Every...

Patch creation, and FC control (as far as we know) help

OK, So Ive been a Fractal user since 2008. First a standard, then an original Mk1 AFX2 which I still have. Im considering the AFX3 - though Im in Europe so will be a wait - and I wont get one until the FC controllers are released either. HOWEVER, Im trying to figure out how to "recreate" my...

A friend got the Axe III....

This is how I always looked at the AFX. I got my standard back in 2008 for 3 reasons: 1. I needed a new FX processor as my G-Maj wasnt working. The choice was an Eventide Eclipse or the AFX. Both were roughly the same price. 2. I always had multi channel amps, so wanted the versatility of...

Anyone using Adam A7X and Sub 7?

Just looked at this, as Im using A5xs and recently bought a sub. I was looking at the Sub7, but went with a Yamaha AS8S. AS to your question, if you feed the sub then attach the A7Xs to that, the sub has a built in fixed 85hz high pass filter. Its one reason I went for the Yam, as its high...

    2 way communication

The red/yellow/No light system doesn't work. So if a block is in a present it has different colour led if it's on or off, with no led if the effect isn't present. This function is the biggie for me. I can save initial states and patch named manually which is a pain but can be done.
  14. P

    2 way communication

Its pretty poor actually. The main reason why I havent got - and dont intend (at present) to get an AFX3 is the lack of MFDC 2 way support. 1. My old Rocktron All Access had the same functionality that the MFC does with the AFX3 - which does rangle a little. 2. The new controllers dont...

    Darkglass B7K Ultra Switches

YEh, Im not failure with the stomp, but im guessing you cant replicate it as easily as the switches, but youd want a 2 x PEQ block with bell curves for each switch at the freq shown in the stomp - so PEQ 1 would replicate the low switch, and have bell curves at 250hz, 500hz and 1KHz - while PEQ...

Lf/hf settings when using valve power amp/real speakers questions.

Lf/hf settings when using valve power amp/real speakers questions.

Just wondering what people's opinions are. I know yek likes to zero these as they simulate the modelled speaker with the modelled power stage, but in the case of valve pa And real cabs you get that naturally. I've tried it but can't decide. Loweringv the hf certainly controls high end...

    2007-2017: 10 Years with the Axe-Fx

Scotts tpg threads got me interested, and I went on the g66 list in March 08 before I left for an operational tour of Iraq. I received a standard on my return in nov 08 and haven't looked back. The only change was an ug to a mk2 afx2 on release.

@yek Not tried lowering those REs parameters since Ive had my PS (15 months). Tried tonight and it just sounded dull and lifeless. The Top end was OK - especially with gain, but the low end.... AS soon as I saw your comment here (not been on the Forum for a while) I got it in theory...

OMG just upgraded from Eleven Rack to Axe FX II XL+

when I started - 9 year ago now (REALLY!!!!!), after the first few days just smiling - I picked 3 amp models - one clean, one crunchy and one high gain. I created a patch with just the amp[ (as I use real PA and cab) - though you would select a suitable cab block as well. Once done - just...

Axe fx 2 XL muddy sound through Port City

not necessarily. SS amp - amp sims on definately. Tube power amp - sims depending on the amp, and the volume. If your not pushing the power tubes, amp sims on is better - normally. If its a fairly neutral sounding amp - like the Fryette 2/50/2 oir 2/90/2 then even when pushed sims on is...

Silver Jubilee - Noise and hum

Its not the cable. 1st Gen AFX2's are known to be very noisy in 4CM. Mine is really bad as well - but I dont use it often that way so Im not fussed. Fryette Power Station II on the way!

Its no brighter than a real amp IMO. I ran my Fender MAchete through it bypasses, then in line and matched the tone using the toggles (actually flat) and bass/presence (around 10 o'clock for this amp). The difference between the two was negligible. I then tone matched the amp in the AFX -...

Switching between guitars w/ different output - How do you do it??

Don get you really. The vast majority of amps DO only have a single input. More vintage ones had a hi and low input yes - but not to get two guitars to sound the same really. Even so - how many people change guitars onstage by changing the guitar AND switching the input the cable is plugged...

Front panel adjustment on the fly

    Reference Headphones vs. ASM-12

Absolutely. They are what they are - there made the way they are to sound how they do, to suit those who are looking from that. I was just pointing out that that makes them "not FRFR". I dont know how dave markets them (Im in the UK and dont have a need for them) - but if he markets them as...

Switching between guitars w/ different output - How do you do it??

Just set the IP trim as suggested, for the hottest guitar, then use each when a song suits. They SHOULD sound different. If you plugged the two into a real amp - they would sound different with less gain and body from the strat. Use the guitars as part of the pallet of tones. Ultimately if...

Just bought a Fryette Power Station

I get you. There are a lot of ifs there though lol, and the only 1I think is really important is the "loud backline" bit. It depends what "loud" is. If its in the PS's headroom then the PS is still a better (IMO) option. If "loud" is more than the POS can do clean, then yes, the Matix is...

Just bought a Fryette Power Station

I wasnt going to bring up guitar speakers, though your right. You can also debate this stuff for years. It has been done in both guitar and audiophile circles for a long time. You actually don't want to damped the speakers really, as true guitar amps dont. The afx actually tries to...
  35. P

Just bought a Fryette Power Station

Not True. The matrix doesn't not do it because it's neutral, it doesn't do it because it's ss. A non neutral ss amp won't do it either. All valve amps needs an output transformer. ss amps dont have output transformers. it's that op transformer interacting with rhe speaker load that is the...

Just bought a Fryette Power Station

RE the quote from Fryette. That's true for the whole unit, but mot for the power amp part. The fine tuning and colouration is from the switches primarily which are only active for the loadbox part of the unit. You do have depth and presence on the pa part, which can modify the response, but...

Just bought a Fryette Power Station

Difficult on a phone, but let's break this down The ps is a loadbox, but instead of reducing the signal to the level you want like a typical load, it reduces it to line level then RE amps it with a 50w power section to the volume you need. So, it can take your 100w head cranked and make it...
  38. P

Just bought a Fryette Power Station

I'll chip on hear. I use the ps with amp Sims on. The whole point of the ps is that it's neutral, or it wouldn't work as an attenuator/RE amp solution for real amps which it does very well. It's loud enough without clipping/compressing though if you really push it you can make it do that, but...

That as well. To the OP - I know this has been gone through - but the first thing I noticed when I looked at the patch was the very high master. I too lowered it to 3, then cut the mids a little, upped the presence a little, and also the gain and patch level to compensate. Not really my tone...

    axe fx sounds muddy

Just had to say something here - even though it was ages ago in the thread. Im the opposite, I seem to run bass quite high on most amps - real and models. The bass control is there because every guitar is different, and everyones idea of good tone is different.

    Tube Amp as Power Amp?

Any amp wont be as "clean" as the Power Station though. Its neutrality is its thing. The choice is - PS for good clean power amp,or a head that you like and use that for the tone primarily.

Got my Axe Fx.....but not impressed so far.

Nowhere near flat unfortunately. Nor is the speaker a guitar speaker, so you cant really turn off the cab block (if you want real feel via a real speaker thats kid of what you need), but if you leave it on it has the cubes inherent deficiencies.
  46. P

Got my Axe Fx.....but not impressed so far.

The main issue, is your monitoring a $2000+ processor though a $200 max monitor. The Cube isnt flat, and we dont know what phones your using. That means the factory presets arnt going to sound great. Now this doesnt mean you cant get good tones - but you have work them yourself to suit you...

I use a PRS CU22 with BK Mules, a PRS CE with P90s, a Fender Select Strat, a Suhr Modern, a Tele with Broadcasters and a 335. I use the same pre-sets for all my guitars. If you had a "real" amp you'd do that. You'd pick what guitar for what song, and its own character would come through...

I'm not sure about this. Everything we think we know says its true, however hifi buffs have no problem using/measuring/believing valve hifi amps that produce a flat response over a wider freq range into different speakers.
  60. P

Just bought a Fryette Power Station

Yeh, the PS Power Amp part should be neutral. Also the reactive load part is bypassed when using the line in or FX return inputs. The load is only active when going into the Amp In socket. Effectively when using he PS with the AFX, its just a valve power amp - but its a flat response one...

Having used TC systems before (Nova and G-Maj) - the FX in the axe are better, and easier to program/route than most FX in the TC units. There are some in the TC that are really top notch - and in those cases the AFX only equals them......... Where are you located. im assuming the UK obviously.

If you turn the AFX off, and back on again - and the sound returns its not likely to be the amp. will I be missing anything by using 5" monitors?

  72. P

will I be missing anything by using 5" monitors?

The low freq stated on speakers, also has to spec at what -db level it is at that point. some (unscrupulous) manufacturers spec at -10db, with is half volume (not -3bd as stated), but most spec the low Freq at the -3db point (which is half power). On the graph above, the speakers low freq is...

  74. P

will I be missing anything by using 5" monitors?

You dont, but you will never know what the end user will play through - or what EQ settings they use. Consider this - if you mix on a bass heavy, or mid scoped system - and the end users system is bass light, or mid boosted the end result would be further away from the "mix'd" sound than if...

    Output level to poweramp.

I want posting from a STN ratio POV to be honest. The is exactly why I run the AFX hot and the PS lower - because it eliminates background noise (not just from the input signal but also any generated internally during the amp stage). The bright caps do come into play - and maybe thats why TT...

    Output level to poweramp.

Is there a problem with my Axe-FX?

    Extending my rack

10 Amps means 10 Amps. If you have a Matrix and AFX thats 6 Max. Plenty of juice left. FWIW I run the AFX and Matrix along with a RAC12, a line 6 Relay AND A Fryette Power station from a 13 Amp supply with no problems. The Matrix and PS are the power hungry units.

Question about using the front panel output knobs.

I run the matrix full then control by the afx levels - however as long as your not clipping the afx output it really doesnt matter which way you work.
