Wish Improvements to 'scenes mode' for live use

It would be super awesome if we had the option to turn on 'scenes display' so that when you're in scenes mode, the display flips over to display the scenes - this should be something very obvious so that in the heat of the moment you can see whether you're in scenes or manual mode. The LED on...

Reamping via SPDIF is my new favourite hobby

Hey Rick, sorry for the delayed response. Yes I have separate patches for initial tracking and reamping. The initial tracking patches are generally just a nice enough tone for monitoring, plus the dry through. The reamping patches can be fairly complex, or rather my usage of them can be. For...

Reamping via SPDIF is my new favourite hobby

Nah I've got dedicated presets for the reamping stage. All I do is switch the input 1 source from the front to SPDIF, and select the relevant preset. Been processing some synths and drums recently too.
  6. AndyTNBD

Reamping via SPDIF is my new favourite hobby

Yeah basically I have a patch, and one path goes straight through to the output, and the output path is hard-panned left. Meaning SPDIF Left is my 'dry thru' ... and my process path is hard panned in the other direction, meaning SPDIF Right is my processed. I record both in Reaper and I can...

Reamping via SPDIF is my new favourite hobby

Fantastic. It's quick, great signal to noise ratio, no additional AD/DA stages, and allows me to play with settings on the fly whilst I record my tones. Did some reamping today and had a whale of a time! And the Memory Man model in the delay is my new favourite delay on the planet! Fantastic...

What guitar amplification would you use live? (Metal music)

Honestly? I'd use an amp and a 4x12 - probably a 5153 50watt head. No PA. Small stage. Small crowd in a small room. Nothing beats an old school rock/metal band properly blowing the fuck out of the place with traditional gear, in my opinion! Most of our gigs are those kind of places!

Axe FX keeps screwing with my DAW!

That's not really how it works mate. It sounds like the DAW is polling the ASIO client, looking for additional devices. CoreAudio does a similar thing. When the Axe turns on it looks for a clock source, and depending on your settings uses its internal clock or external clock; I clock mine...

    Question for Fractal about plugins

Putting it into perspective - component level modeled synthesisers have been very common in VST-land for years now. Look at plugins such as Diva by uhe or even our (FXpansion's) DCAM Synth Squad and Strobe 2. A VST version of the Axe modelling is definitely possible. And looking at the general...

What amps have pleasantly surprised you and what amps have been a let down?

For me the Diezel models are a bit of a mixed bag. I have a real D-Moll here, and the Axe models don't really touch it. I've always put it down to the fact that mine is a D-Moll and the ones in the Axe are Herberts and VH4's. I *really* love the 5153 blue and red channels, and the Friedman HBE...

They can be used with BFD3, provided you use the correct key map layout within BFD3. I use EZD2 and BFD3 together quite a bit, grabbing beats from EZD2 and dragging them to the timeline, and then directing the midi at BFD3.

    Boss FS-7 in pedal socket

Heya, Is there any way to use both switches of my Boss FS-7 into the pedal socket on the Axe II? Currently I can only get one of them to work.
  18. AndyTNBD

Will get an AxeFX if I can achieve this tone. Can the box do this?

The main thing you're gonna run into is that the Axe doesn't have the Rivera Knucklehead modeled. So you're going to have to compromise on some level. I'd be tempted to try one of the 5150's, into an IR with K100 speakers. Which I believe is what Mick Thompson uses.

Working on a Tool (Adam Jones) tone.

Go and listen to Aenima. So many of the heavy riffs on that album are panned straight down the middle, with a double track. That's how he gets that really thick sound. Checkout 46&2 for example, when Maynard is singing "I ... choose to live and to..." - the guitar riff there... straight down the...

Working on a Tool (Adam Jones) tone.

Adam puts all of his effects, including delay, before the amps preamp. Not afterwards. You wont be able to nail his lead tones without doing that. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hPnebOrTx0 The trick is to keep the mix fairly low, so it doesn't get too muddy at the front end.

Reamping - still one track at a time?

Surely that isn't right... Isn't there a preference in the ASIO driver panel to setup how the monitor signal gets to the Axe? I seem to recall there was a setting to make it possible to monitor your DAW audio without it being processed by the Axe.

AX8 vs FX8 now which one to buy???

It wasn't just the ultra, it was the Axe FX II as well. I had one and it sucked in 4cm. I think the FX8 was designed specifically to address that.

It'd be good if Fractal or Mark Day or someone could do a FX8 comparison with something like a 5150III or Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, or a Mark V, or even a VHT Sig X like what I use if you can get one. Basically a noise floor test with a proper multi-channel high-gain head. I appreciated the...

Seriously dudes... I need this thing naow!

Not anymore no. I had one, but I prefer valve amps, and the Axe II didn't work too well for me as an effects only unit. I had one of the very early units that had white noise issues with high-gain amps (a commonly reported thing that Fractal fixed in future versions as I understand it)

I'm Just Going to Leave This Here

I don't think it's going to be cheap, but if it did have a $999/£600/900EUR price range, I can see it becoming the go to floor modeller for amp modelling for the foreseeable future. But I don't think that price range is realistic, Fractal have never made any noise about even desiring to make...

AX8 vs FX8 now which one to buy???

I am going to assume that the FX8's AD/DA stages are ultra quiet and designed to be transparent in front of a valve amp. I am not going to assume that is the case for the AX8; rather I am going to assume that the AX8 is designed to be used in front of a poweramp. So... no 4-cable method and no...

I'm Just Going to Leave This Here

Well... not sure I can agree with that really. He said in another thread that the FX8 uses new opamp's by Analog Devices. I'm Just Going to Leave This Here

One thing that people have missed when discussing the difference between FX8 and AX8 pricing - the FX8 is designed to work with a tube amp, in 4-cable method, with ultra transparent AD/DA stages. The AX8 - for all we know - is just a stereo in and stereo out device. I reckon they'll be priced...

    Pedal switch

Sorry chap, but this just isn't accurate. I've had no dealings with you before now, and if I have, I certainly don't recall them. You don't factor into my Fractal forum experience at all. But I thought your contribution to this thread was ultimately snide and not at all helpful.

"new blocks for sending MIDI and manually controlling the onboard RELAYS"

That is a shame. Ideally I want 4 blocks, and each block being able to address each relay. I don't want to use scenes, because I don't want to lose the effects I've already got activated. I just want to send out pulses to my amp channel change.
  59. AndyTNBD

"new blocks for sending MIDI and manually controlling the onboard RELAYS"

I'd like to know about these new blocks for controlling the onboard relays. Will it be one block for relay 1, and one block for relay 2... or will it be a single block for both relays, and will you be able to load up multiple of these blocks into different FX slots, so that you can have a range...

    FX8: The grid??

I'm left handed and play left handed ;) To me it's just more comfortable with that sort of layout. Been playing like it for over 10 years now, and it's just the way I do things. A pref to change the ordering would be great.
  62. AndyTNBD

    FX8: The grid??

Have you ever used a traditional pedalboard? The signal flow is right to left, not left to right. Many people find this the most natural approach to emulate when using multi-fx's and I think Fractal should definitely consider it.
  63. AndyTNBD

    FX8: The grid??

    Something like that, yeah.
  64. AndyTNBD

    FX8: The grid??

No. Because switch 1 = effect 1, switch 2 = effect 2, and so on... I want switch 8 = effect 1, switch 7 = effect 2, switch 6 = effect 3, and so on... so that the layout at my feet matches a traditional pedalboard.
  65. AndyTNBD

    FX8: The grid??

For me, all I care about is the series or parallel option for each slot, but I also want to be able to reverse the signal flow. So that instead of series mode being 1-8, it could be 8-1, or 4-1 and 8-5... because I want to retain the whole "right to left signal flow" thing from a traditional...

Right, so from my perspective you were saying that 'it's the best there is' in so many words, and I'm thinking 'but dude... you haven't even tried it....' because I was thinking FX8, not Axe FX.
  70. AndyTNBD

    Disappointed in the user interface

I honestly still have no idea what you're talking about. Can you just rewind completely and be more thorough with what you're trying to say?
  71. AndyTNBD

    Disappointed in the user interface

Don't get me wrong either - I DO want one... perhaps I'll wait for a 2nd hand one or a b-stock. I know if I sold my current board now, I wouldn't even make half of what I'd need to buy an FX-8, and my Axe is getting sold to fund an incoming Fryette Sig X.
  72. AndyTNBD

    Disappointed in the user interface

Kinda funny actually, I made a mockup of something that looked like an FX8 *years* ago, but from a TC Electronic perspective, and I sent it to 'em. Here's hoping they're working on it right now!
  73. AndyTNBD

    Disappointed in the user interface

Well I'm not sure how you could make that statement since you have not used an FX8. But that was my point... the fanboy gushing passes by whilst even a remotely critical comment gets jumped on as being negative or something. It's proper cult of personality behaviour.
  74. AndyTNBD

    Disappointed in the user interface

I'm not sure I follow you?

    FX8 Update

I look at my board now... and it comes in at around £600. It looks like this FX8 is going to be approximately £1200 once it hits G66 and the rest of the EU/UK. Basically twice the price of my current board. I'm not sure I will buy it based on that alone.
  76. AndyTNBD

    Disappointed in the user interface

Why was the Sat switch moved to the Advanced tab in the Amp block?

I made a thread about this a week or two ago. I agree. Would love to see a solution where we get the sat switch back on the main page. I'd actually quite like the saturation 'behaviour' option (ideal or authentic) to be a global setting. I personally always use ideal.

USB Adapter mode + Roland TD-20 = Evil midi dropout hell

The problem is it isn't a constant delay. It varies, which says to me that rather than it being a fixed buffer of delay - which is what I would expect with a soft thru, which can be corrected for during editing - rather than that... this seems like the datastream gets jammed at various points.
  86. AndyTNBD

USB Adapter mode + Roland TD-20 = Evil midi dropout hell

  87. AndyTNBD

USB Adapter mode + Roland TD-20 = Evil midi dropout hell

You've got midi note messages, program changes, and hihat control changes which are usually 7-bit. I would've thought a unit as high-end as the Axe FX II could handle this level of stream. Personally... I think there is a bug; either in my setup or in the Axe itself.
  88. AndyTNBD

USB Adapter mode + Roland TD-20 = Evil midi dropout hell

That was in the context of a completely different situation and is not really relevant to this. I am not doing sysex dumps. I am just sending midi notes, CC's, and PC's through the Axe. This is supported for midi foot pedals, so why not for an electronic drumkit. The Axe is doing something odd...

Today I tried the Axe FX II as an audio interface with a Mac Mini. Worked fine. I also tried it as a midi interface at the same time with a Roland TD-20. Performance was utterly terrible.
