Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.02 Public Beta #2

A full backup including cabs is about 45MB (attached), which is still nothing, relatively speaking. I backup to a location that's sync'd with my Google drive, so I almost immediately have two copies. Better to have them and not need them...

Help a complete modeler greenhorn purchase an Axe-Fx III

I thought the Austin Buddy TonePacks were very helpful. I found the tones I liked and copied some of the blocks out of them as a starting point for my own tones. I've not used the Cooper Carter tutorial, but there are lots of positive comments about it around here. At first it may help to treat...

About to take the plunge... again?

This is me as well. I've been playing over 30 years, and had never believed my primary rig would be anything but a tube amp. Oh sure, I'd use a solid state rig or modeller for rehearsals or as a backup, but what I practiced with and performed with was always a tube head with a pedal or two in...

Is it me? Does 6.03 suck? My live sounds are now terrible.

It's not unusual for updates to require some redialing, but I think that's less common with minor version updates. What version were you on before 6.03? That might help pinpoint what changed.
  6. B

    Finally took the plunge!

Check out the TonePack for Axe III from Austin Buddy. I use some of the blocks in those presets as starting points for a lot of my own tones.

    Need help with wireless selection

I've got the Line 6 G75, no issues. The drop out problems were primarily related to an earlier firmware release. That, and disable the battery saver (although that may also have been related to the earlier firmware). I just make sure I scan for the preferred channel before the show, and when I...

Any bedroom only players using an Axe-Fx 3?

I'm presently a home-only player, but I do the band thing from time to time. I use the Axe-FX III because it covers everything I can possibly throw at it, and it sounds the best to me. I've owned all the big name tube amps after the last couple decades-both mass produced and boutique-due to...

On the fence...help me jump off :-)

Like some of the others have suggested, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. That said, I've been playing almost 30 years, and for 29 of those I was certain that my primary "serious" guitar rig would only ever be tube-based, with high-voltage preamp circuits, no diodes, etc. After a few months...

Announcing the FM3 Amp Modeler/FX Processor!

I personally don't mind buy-to-try, even when we're talking $2K+. I get 15 days to spend as much time with it as I want, in my own home, with the rest of my own gear. Trying something out in GC might tell you some things about it, but I'd rather test it out with my gear in one of the main...

Announcing the FM3 Amp Modeler/FX Processor!

That's what I'm getting out of it too. The FM3 seems of the Axe-FX III/Ares lineage much the same as the AX8 was of Axe-FX II/Quantum, with the FM3 having limitations relative to the Axe-III comparable to the differences between the AX8 and Axe-FX II. In terms of the roughly equivalent...

Axe-FX related (Tone-Talk segment with Friedman and Jake E Lee)

I watched and enjoyed it. Dave's a tube amp monger, and his position on modelling is predictably partisan. I think most people realize there's enough room at the table for everyone.

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 4.03

My sense is that when bugs happen, no one is more unhappy about it than Cliff. We have the option to roll back, and hopefully provide some constructive feedback about what we experienced. Speaking just for myself, I like the rate of innovation and recognize that it imparts some risks. If I...

Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 3.00 Beta

This is purely anecdotal, but it seems like it boots faster now too. Or am I just imagining it? Have I just had so much coffee that I'm experiencing time dilation?

My first month with the Axe-Fx III

I use a Carvin DC1540L and a traditional guitar cab. I leave amp modelling on in the Axe, but disable cab modelling. I love it. I'm still kinda attached to the amp-in-the-room feel/sound, so it's a good balance that still gives me an incredible amount of power. I like the idea of using FRFR and...

My envelope follower has quit working

Cool, thanks for your help! I guess I had an RTFM moment ;-) I switched over to the XLR out on my wireless a few days ago but left the 1/4" connection in Input 1 so it was still getting signal too, at least until I cleaned up my cabling today. Back to Input 1 it is! Thanks again!

My envelope follower has quit working

Preset attached. I have an envelope follower as the control for my wah, and it seemed to stop working while I was playing. This is affecting multiple presets. I've tried rebooting my Axe-FX III, and have created a new preset from scratch. I'm relatively new to Axe-FX, so I'm certainly open to...

Tracking down EMI sources, Axe-Fx 3 Noise Gate settings?

Ahh, I misunderstood the OP's mention of power. Aside from proper shielding on the guitar, cables, etc., there are EMF-blocking panels and paints available. Depending on how serious of a problem it is, EMF meters are relatively inexpensive (at least compared to full spectrum analyzers). In...

Tracking down EMI sources, Axe-Fx 3 Noise Gate settings?

Have you tried powering your rig through a UPS? It that's the source of the noise, a UPS or even an isolation transformer may make a big difference. Or borrow one from someone or buy-to-try and that will at least tell you if the noise is making it in through the power grid. Good luck :-)
  23. B

    Hello everyone...I'm new

I can relate. I've been in and out of modelling since the Line 6 XT series. My main rig has always been a traditional tube amp with a pedal or too and some outboard effects. I used an XT Live off and on for smaller gigs, but it never displaced the tube amp. Then I tried the X3 series and it was...

Coming from Helix to Axe-Fx III

I tried a Helix LT for about 45 days. I was satisfied (but not thrilled) with the tones I was getting. That said, I didn't find the Helix tones muddy or fizzy. What I love about the Axe III is that it is sooooo tweakable. I think it's reasonably easy to get good tones with both, but with the...

Wish Drive block Output Level greater than 10?

Could the output level of the Drive Block give the same amount of boost as the Boost Level of the boost in the Amp Block? I use Boost in the Amp block because it seems capable of greater output than the Drive block, but there are times I'd rather use the drive block since it's more tweakable, it...

    Pre-recorded Audio to the PA

This is what I use: https://digitech.com/en/products/jamman-stereo It sits in my pedal board, and the sound guy just runs a separate line for it. I don't use it for its looping function, just to playback prerecorded content like song intros, sound effects, and things like that.

What is everyone doing for live setup?

Axe-FX III > Randall RT2/50 > ADA split stack 2x12 w/Vintage 30s, mic'd like a traditional amp. Heading towards FRFR/direct eventually, but doing so gradually.

    Axe-Fx III vs AX8

I was weighing the same options. I ended up getting an Axe III, partly because I already have a Rocktron MIDI Raider footswitch that I can use, and because I plan to use a rack-based setup for my amp and power conditioner anyway. Plus, I'd rather someone spill a beer on my MIDI Radier than on an...

Axe-Fx 3 preamp vs Synergy amp quality question

I guess I don't necessarily see the Synergy stuff as inferior. I got great tones out of every module I tried, even the ones that weren't really the tones I was looking for. The modules seem to be voiced with the decoupled power amp in mind, and they responded like a tube amp. I think a lot of it...

    Where to try it?

I can appreciate where the dude is coming from in terms of the amount of money, but as far as not wanting to buy something that expensive until he's played it, that's the whole point of having 15 days. You still get to try out the item, and if you don't like it you're not stuck with it. There...

Axe-Fx 3 preamp vs Synergy amp quality question

The short answer is yes. I sold my SYN2 and 4 modules about six weeks before buying an Axe-FX III. I really liked the Synergy stuff, to the point where I was ready for it to replace my Randall 667, but I couldn't cover the ground I needed with two slots. I was probably going to need a second...

    Where to try it?

In the U.S. Fractal sells direct, so it's buy-to-try. Maybe one of the other forum members will be charitable enough to let you play through theirs, although I'm not sure you should trust anyone who plopped down their Gz without having the "sense" to play through it first ;-)
  34. B

Do you all pretty much leave stock settings on amp for live?

I adjust the "traditional" knobs to taste they way I would on any amp/pedal. I get into the more advanced parameters when I feel like I've done all I can and really need to tweak things for that last 5%. YMMV :-)

What does "FC" stand for in the FC6 and FC12 controller name?

The F is silent, like in "knife" ;-)

I just pulled the trigger on an Axe-FX III!!!

Ordered yesterday. I sat on the fence too long and didn't order in time to have it for the upcoming long weekend. D'oh! I actually had an Axe-FX II XL+ for a bit and ended up selling it. I probably just needed to be more patient. It's occurred to me that I've spent 25+ years becoming proficient...

    The joy of tube amps

Speaking of hernias, anyone else rock the Line 6 Vetta Combo back in the day? A 70lb 2x12 combo, with a single and poorly planned top handle. Not bad if you added side handles and casters, but if you tried to carry it any distance by the top handle your forearm would be tense until halfway...

    Dave Friedman on modelling

I don't think I have enough postings on here to post a URL, but the video is on the guitarguitaruk page on Facebook titled "Dave Friedman Live", with Dave and Sammy Boller. It was fun to watch. Towards the end of the video Dave (and Sammy) makes a couple statements about modelling that I'm not...

What happened to all the presets in the Axe-Change?

I sometimes have trouble access the exchange with AxeEdit too. Same symptom: can see cabs, but not amps. Restarting AxeEdit fixes it.
  43. B

Which real Wah pedal would you suggest/buy?

My fav is still the Vox Joe Satriani Big Bad Wah. Just the right amount of tweakability.

Urgent - can AX8 do convincing and EASY Eb tuning on fly?

As others have stated, trying to pitch shift the entire guitar a half-step one way or the other is going to be imperfect, and this isn't something that's specific to AxeFx. To me the most ideal solution is to get the ensemble to agree to a single tuning; the band I'm in just tunes everything...

    Checklist for creating amps/presets

Like others have suggested, keep mostly to the more common controls you'd see on any amp or effects. I'd would get my tones 95% of where I wanted with those, and then dig into the Advanced parameters for the last 5%.

    Vetta combo HP

If I remember correctly, the G12H-90 was custom made for Line 6 as a speaker that was better suited for a wider variety of amp types. Not FRFR, but perhaps flatter than the usual 12" guitar speakers. My back hurts just looking at the Vetta combo. I gigged with one of those for a couple years in...

    Is my XL+ for me?

I can relate. I ended up flipping my XL+ despite being someone who likes to tweak things. In addition to what the guys above said, there's still a lot of dialing in with your ears instead of your eyes. There's a lot of great info on the forums in terms of the effect of each parameter, but it can...
