Do you need closed back headphones if youre using the axefx?

I want to buy some new headphones and people recommend closed back for tracking.

I was doing some thinking, and surely it doesn't matter if you're listening to everything through headphones anyway. Even with headphone bleed, guitar pickups wont pick up the metronome and background noise right?

No. Open back are fine for the Axe FX and often sound more "open" and natural. They're more comfortable if your ears tend to sweat a lot in closed back cans. Where open back cans become problematic is when recording up close with mics. Pretty tough to cut a vocal track with a super sensitive condenser mic a foot away from open back cans. It will be bleed city.

Is there bleed through from the acoustic sound of the strings into open back headphones that for example would conflict with your perception of the virtual capo?

All closed headphones I have tried are unnatural.

Guitar pickups wont pick any bleed sound coming from open headphones
