With all these gearheads adding their info to the discussion (and presets, TY!), we'll get there. I have no doubt. Sorry Ty, haha
Haha I’m sure one of these amp models and all these different effects and tweaking options can get us close! With all these gearheads adding their info to the discussion (and presets, TY!), we'll get there. I have no doubt. Sorry Ty, haha
I went down this rabbit hole a few years back on the AXE II forum. There are some good YouTube vids and print interviews out there. The one thing that sticks with me from pursuing this is even if you find the Lab5 settings he used, there was something "broken" on the amp he used, which kept it always on the verge of ruin due to how he was running it. I wish I could be more specific on the details, but hopefully you'll find the info from straight from the horse's mouth on the webs. Maybe someone else here knows the source I'm referring to and can point you in that direction. Long reply longer, even if we get a Lab5 model, it might still be difficult to reproduce Ty's tone.
I think the middle years he was on Mesa Boogie.First 4 albums lab series 5 ,he uses orange crush pro 120 now, solid state
I have two of them nothing in the axefx sounds like it. I’ve asked for it to be added since the ultra days. What is so different/unique about the Lab Series L5 that can’t be made from another amp with modifications?
Can you tone capture it?I have two of them nothing in the axefx sounds like it. I’ve asked for it to be added since the ultra days.
I don't believe they choose amps to model based on a player using that amp to get a certain tone out of it. But if nothing in the Axe sounds like it, and there's been offers to model it, I wonder why they haven't done so.Well, this might well explain why Fractal has never modeled it. I always thought it was because they felt other models got close to this. But perhaps it is more that your typical L5 isn't going to give you "this" sound?

I'm sure it might have something to do with the fact that his original Lab L5' power section broke which contributed to the flavor so he would have to give his prized iconic amp to FAS to be modeled I doubt Ty would do that.

I remember that interview! I saw them back in early 2000's at the Galaxy in Santa Anna, Ty was standing in front of Mesa gear along with some Line 6 Rack mount stuff. There's an interview where Ty mentions how hard it was to keep that amp going (cue Tomo Petty's
"Breakdown!" ), and that there was only one miniscule sweet spot on that amp that worked for him.
May have been the interview he did with Pete Thorn in 2020. Well worth watching for the geeky among us.
Looks like Orange gear there in the pic, so shouldn’t we be able to come close with one of the Orange models?I remember that interview! I saw them back in early 2000's at the Galaxy in Santa Anna, Ty was standing in front of Mesa gear along with some Line 6 Rack mount stuff.
I also saw them a few years ago at San Manuel casino in San Bernardino. It was a good show but the sound was not. You couldn't hear Ty or Jerry's vocal at all. I Tried the pot Cigarettes but I guess the file is too large to post here
Consolation pic instead!

It depends on what era of his tone you are after! A lot of the tones he does now are suggestive and not a recreation for the simple fact that it would be impossible to run every piece of gear that he has used over the years on tour.Looks like Orange gear there in the pic, so shouldn’t we be able to come close with one of the Orange models?
