4cm lots of noise

hello everyone,

I decided to try using my FM3 with 4cm with my friedman JJ Jr. BTW, it’s an amazing little amp.

I cabled everything up with only the best quality cables (no, they are not hum busters - I have extremely clean power with no ground loops). I triple checked the cabling with the manual - I’m positive it’s correct.

I created the simplest patch - input one wired to output two and input two wired to output one. No efffects. No amps. No cabs. Direct connects between each

I/O set to sum L + R for both outputs.

output two knob is dimed, output one about 5.

What I expect to hear from this setup is my amp. Nothing else. Unfortunately this isn’t the case. what I hear on the clean channel of my amp is this very noticable fizzy sound. Not clean in the slightest. When I use 4cm with my regular pedal board, I get beautiful clean tone as I would expect, so I know theres nothing wrong with the amp.

So, a few questions: 1) how did I eff this up?, 2) if I didn’t eff it up, is there something wrong with the FM3?

I can’t imagine that this is normal operation.

Any suggestions on how to tackle this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have quite a lot of experiences with friedman amps (JJ 100, BE-50 dlx, BE100dlx) and all of them created quite a lot more noise in 4CM setup, as opposed to something like Diezels.

I know this will be probably not very helpful, but I can make my ax3 with fryette Ps2 and Friedman 4x12 cab to sound even better, than those mentioned amps, cygnus as just that good.

A few weeks ago, I sold my last tube amp (Friedman JJ 100).

sorry for not being very helpful.

I know you don't think it is, but it sounds like a ground loop issue between the FC3 and the amp. Quick and cheap - try using an Ebtech Hum-X between the FC3 (or amp) and the socket. Using balanced cables? Any fluorescent lights nearby? A fish tank? The FC3 isn't siting on top of the amp, right?

Hum-x took the hiss and him away with 4cm for me. Humbuster cables helped a bit, but the Hum-x made it silent like my pedalboards are, even with my normal non-humbuster 4cm snakes.

I had the same issue with hum/buzz noise with my Friedman BE-50 Deluxe, Elmwood M60 and to a lesser degree Soldano, and the Axe. My Rockerverb MKIII strangely did not have any hum issues although its setup in the exact same manner. Adding a Hum-x to the Friedman, Elmwood and Soldano power line killed the hum. Perhaps it's an Axe thing? Perhaps it just my Axe?
