New Deftones album Ohms is out now!

Would be interesting to know if it was indeed an afx3. Their new tone is unreal.

I know they used Axe FX 2 for the Koi No Yokan album. But did Steph share presets from that?

And the new, album is ridiculous. There has never been a band like them before and there never will be. They keep that silk regardless of what new genre they invent with each release, and the only ones who do in fact do that fresh every time.

Stef switches up his rig every couple years so I doubt its 100% AxeFx. There's a recent rig rundown with bob Bradshaw and he shows Stef's new rig and most of it is his old analog gear. Went from 2 AxeFx units to just one and I believe he said it runs parallel to the new main analog rig.

The new Ohms album sounds killer particularly Genesis and Skill of Mathematics. Very tight sounding. Diamond Eyes will always be my fav Stef tone though lol

Most of the original links to Steph's presets no longer work but I found these. Not sure if the presets will work because they were made with really old Axe-Fx II firmware that had many problems with Axe-Edit at the time.

I agree. I've listened to the new album multiple times already and it's really good. All the songs are good and have their own character, so you can listen to the entire album without getting "bored" ;)

I started listening to Deftones when I was in high school before Adrenaline was released and they're one of my big influences and completely changed the way I thought about music. There was a guy I worked with that was also a DJ at a local radio station and he gave me the Deftones 7 Words demo that also had a cover of "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" on it. Then I got the Adrenaline album. I had just started listening to Korn around that time too but I liked Deftones riffs and grooves more and I didn't need a 7 String to play their songs.

I like it and I don’t even like nu metal. Great sounds.

Groove metal with ambience is probably a better descriptor haha. My former bandmate is a huge deftones fan (I can confirm the Abe Cunningham snare sounds phenomenal) so we've talked about the singles. I'll have to find somewhere to listen to the whole album (not a Spotify user) and report back.

I've liked the last 4 or 5 releases, bought a couple of them. With no CD player in my car anymore, it'll have to be a download this time.

Diamond eyes was some ridiculous tone it was a mix of 57s, ribbons, various cabs and guitar rig 3 to ad some layer. But the new sound is also great. Im pretty sure its an axe fx 3 and it sounds good enough to be pro. Its all about the IR now.

I only buy about 3 cds a year now, and Deftones is one,of those bands which when I hear it on youtube, it then makes me want to go buy the actual CD to have the full wav file to take in more. Ghost is another one of those bands that achieve status in my music snobbery ranking list.

Deftones Ohms may have nu-metal ideas and they may have come out of the scene initially but they are not the nu-metal gimmick. They are their own class.

And when that 9 string comes in on this record its so ominous and enters at just the right moment.

Funny, I went into a small skateboard shop to buy a pair of Vans and they had the 7 Words demo tape for free on the counter. Took one and threw it in my truck's cassette player - I was hooked immediately.
