Just watched that KDH video analisis... Oh boy... 😐

I find his face contortion antics to be downright painful to watch, but I can see how that would attract children to his channel, so I guess that explains his viewership numbers.

The children bit really got me upset, specially when he mentioned Sabrina Sabrok. She's pretty well known here in Mexico as she was part of a comedic late night TV show called "La hora pico" (roughly translated to "The rush hour", but it's a risqué kind of wordplay, lots of double-meaning jokes in there). When the show was cancelled she did a couple cabaret/BDSM live shows, formed a band and finally got into porn (and really hardcore stuff TBH). The fact that hundreds, maybe thousands kids were exposed to that kind of content because "Stevie T" did a video on it, really disgust me.

Steve is making a lot more money on YouTube than he would touring with DragonForce.
he sure is this year! they had to cancel after three concerts this spring, and had tons of technical issues when i saw them in SF (I was there for the opening act)

It's entertainment. It's a nice departure for some of the content I watch. He's not pretentious or arrogant. He does apologize if he gets something wrong. It's a great diversion from reality these days.

I watch his videos, it's not the best or funniest, but a smile and a good shred are fine.
I am not to blame him for inappropriate content for kids for two reasons :
1) Parents should have enough control over what their kids are watching on screens until a reasonable age
2) I guess famous french youtubers would be more offensive to you than stevieT, in a five minute video :D

Your missing the point. The point is Steve did not go to music school and he's just as good as John when John went through musical school. Steve is self taught no school.
Actually JP wasn't 'going thru music institute' in that video, he was doing a clinic at MI. And honestly, there's no comparison at all. JP's dynamics were absolutely tasty while Stevie seemed to be all the time on 11.

That TriAxis tone he had back then was just gorgeous.

The actual point is there are a vast array of phenomenal players and song writers whose claim to fame is based on mastery of the instrument, songwriting skill and...wait for it...phenomenonal tone instead of some click-bait YouTuber.

Maybe I need to listen more via headphones, but the Purple Rain sound doesn't seem too far removed from the various Petrucci lead sounds I've heard and tried.

Now THAT'S another level. Those guys are monsters and were just as good since they were regulars at the now defunct Petrucciforum circa 2005. Another killer guy from back then is Tom Quayle.

I must confess I envy Rick Graham. The guy is phenomenal.

Let me know when Stevie T writes a song on par with "Metropolis", "Lines In The Sand", "The Spirit Carries On"....or really, anything from the DT catalog at all.

While he's certainly a capable player, claiming he's on the same level as Petrucci when the most he's contributed musically is 2-3 minute parodies of riffs and leads he pulls entirely out of his ass seems a bit daft to me, but if you dig it, then dig on!
