You’re observing a quick lockdown in China and you’re asking why so quick ?
You mean the reason, the motives and you’re speculating on these (they knew, they lied...).
I just want to put another perspective: they just can react quicker than a western country because of the centralized power in China. And that alone will give you the same observation: a quick lockdown.

I´m sure that their numbers are wrong simply because at the first beginning, when chinese doctors alerted about abnormal rise of deadly pneumoniae, the virus was probably not yet identified and the deaths due to the virus not counted. When the situation worsened, the chinese gouvernement began to react, they identified the virus, began to test people and quickly lockdowned the region. So the real time 0 is not their official time 0.

So are they lying about the number of deaths ? Maybe. But their numbers are certainly wrong anyway.
Telling that they created the virus. I won’t go that way because it’s the same as telling the virus was brought to China from the States.

Some countries are slower than others to assess correctly such crisis.

My impression is that they were not specially quick.
It’s just that a lot of countries are too slow to react. I’m sure we‘ll agree on that last point. :)

And we agree on the fact that it is a deadly virus and that it must be taken seriously.

This doesn't improve the world at all. Everyone has opinions and you shouldn't hate or shun them no matter what their views are.

You see again and again someone thinking their view is best for society, yet they are the ones that will destroy anyone who gets in their way for the good they are doing for people o_O there's also a great movement to keep the past alive which keeps us separated

"Growing up" is becoming self-aware and interested in improving.

What path do you want to cut through the world? What's the legacy you look to leave? Is it a better place or the same as it ever was? Can you alter some part of how you behave and leave it all in a better state? If you could, why wouldn't you? What do you stand to lose?

The answer is: nothing. But you gain much from doing so.

That's not the point here.

The WHO stopped using place names several years ago, not because somebody would get their feelings hurt, but because somebody could use the place name for political purposes to deflect blame or dodge responsibility. As events have shown this week, that's exactly what somebody is doing with a place name.

I have an idea for the problem of people going against advisories and orders by jamming into beaches and parks like sardines -- without actually closing the parks:

Install massive music concert screens / Jumbotrons...

and broadcast a live feed from that city's hospital, focusing on admissions for respiratory illness, especially people struggling to breathe, people on respirators, etc. And if their local hospitals haven't been slammed yet, broadcast Italy's hospital footage - that'll be scary as hell. Use robot cams to keep operators safe, blur faces, or ask permission not to blur faces, whatever it takes to get compelling footage onto those screens.

Tell people the concert screens are only coming down when they stop going against advisories and orders and spread the f**k out, or work with rangers or police or national guard to control the flow. Yes, they need to relax/escape, but they also need to get a clue.

We need to connect people to the suffering, to the consequences, to the reality. We're not, and until that happens they'll continue to be disconnected and behave accordingly. Just my 2 cents.

if someone says something that causes you to do something foolish, the fault lies in you and not them. people need to revisit the old sticks and stones theory. words are improperly used by everyone at some time, nowadays you can be targeted for doing such. don't forgive, don't forget, don't try to understand, don't ignore and don't see the other value in that person

we heard media and famous people saying assassinate someone - thank God no one was so weak minded that they listened

What is a leader and leadership if not someone who spurs a people to an action? Words matter.
 
The problem is putting too much faith in your "leaders". Most of our so-called superiors are simply in it for themselves. Think for yourself. Get the facts and make your own decisions as much as possible within the system. By the time the government has figured out what to do it's too late and it revolves around protecting/rewarding those with a vested interest. They don't care about you.
 
What would be the motive for China to unleash a biological weapon? They are a country who has patience and a long term approach to everything.
They've restricted development and advancement up until recently.. after they became nervous that we so quickly conquered Iraq. They are projected to overtake our economy.. times on thier side and they prefer that. On the otherhand.. they don't want world development, and they dont want development of China.... but a move like this would only bring short term gains..when China does nothing short term. From this, they will suffer the most with the stigmatism, and a paradigm shift that draws production out of China. This will be lasting for them.

Who would benefit the most? The current #1 superpower.

So that could narrow things down to either a natural pandemic... and bio accident with a China made bio virus... or else we let them steal it from the US in a covert plan that seizes the opportunity of Chinese theft
 
Things moving fast today in USA with stay-at-home orders, just like they did last monday with bar & restaurant closings.

Looks like everyone's been trying to buy time they don't have. Understandably, the largest cities are under greatest pressure to issue stay-at-home. I'm guessing they'll fold in 48 hours or less, with adjoining cities following suit, and some states going all-in asap.
