Cubase 50% discount

Sounds like a good deal but the only DAW I've ever used was Reaper ... does Cubase offer significant advantages?

Reaper is great (light, faster, cheap) but the MIDI section is very very poor... this could be the only reason (for me) to switch since I'm "MIDI composing" a lot lately...

Steinberg always find the add value no matter what, and with just 12 months between releases, speechless

Eventually they will run out of ideas and start in the porn industry

Believe it or not, i didn't use this upgrade since, not enough time.
I've upgraded this weekend and wow, what a jump from cubase 5!
Very good piece of software, a lot of customization options and with jBridger most of my 32 bits vsts still work :)

If some of have great tips for getting into the new cool features added from cubase 5, thanks by advance :)

That’s a huge leap. It’s not just that things have been added since then, there have been fundamental changes in how it works. For example the instrument rack is obsolete and window handling has been largely replaced by zones. I’d suggest approaching as a new DAW. The hub (which is new since version 5) is a good source to use when learning how to use Cubase. Also Steinberg has a good YouTube channel.

As a longtime Logic user (the DAW I used previously was Opcode Studio Vision(!) ), this offer looks interesting, considering my addition of a proper PC into my system...Any body out there have experience with current versions of Logic and Cubase to give me insight into
Benefits, and the learning curve of Cubase compared to Logic...? Cheers
I found Cubase to be bug ridden, or it would crash when mixing 30 tracks, corrupting the files in the process.
Sonar was much more stable, and i used it for a very long time, with great results, until Windows forced updates, and the Gibson buyout.

Logic isn't glamorous, or flashy, but that's never what getting sh$$ done is about.
It doesn't crash on me, its become an industry standard, and since its native to the MAC, its baked in.

I've been using Logic for 6 years, but was first introduced to it by a producer in 98'

Cher's single "I Believe" was mixed entirely in Logic, and that was pretty groundbreaking, since Protools was dominant then.
I remember drilling the producer about how he achieved certain sounds on that song, including the NEW Antares Auto-tune, which made the Vocal hook so unique.

I absolutely loved Sonar, but when things became unstable, even after trying Cubase, I switched to MAC.
I've never had a corrupted audio drive on MAC, and for me thats huge!

Yeah, I love the new all-in-one layout, with a 32" QHD screen it's a pleasure to work with, everything you need in one window.

One of the best new features is "render in place" (pro only), you never run out of cpu/memory for your plugins with that.
But also the undo/redo function in the mixer

Yes this mixer undo was very needed.
I love the multiple mixer configurations and visible / invisible settings per configuration also the same in the project window

Wow!! Better late than never! :D

The Sonar platform has been purchased from Gibson and the new owner is now supporting it again. I don't know many details, but if you're a Sonar guy you should check it out.
Bandlab bought it and resurrected it - offering it for free. I invested quite a bit in Sonar and have been using Bandlab Cakewalk without issues since they made it available! They even have some Sonar bakers still employed working on it. Glad I didn't have t learn a new DAW after Gibson let it go ;)

Too late for me.
A corrupted hard drive coincided with Hendershot selling out.

I switched to MAC & Logic at that point.

I Kept another PC with Sonar on it running XP Pro, then the discontinuation of XP support put a nail in that coffin. It’s a shame, I used twelve tone/ cakewalk/ sonar for 10 years.

I do miss Wavelab for 2 track editing as well, and I think it’s available on MAC via Adobe?
