I find the tonal palette of the Shimmer Drive to be perfect for experimenting with clip type and picking dynamics. I run it in front of three of my mainstay models: Car Roamer, Hipower Brillnt, Supremo Trem. Each is set to mild breakup with wide open Master on the Hipower to take advantage of its amazing output transformer modeling. Here are my settings in the Drive block:
Drive: 1.75
Tone: 4.85
Level: 4.00
Clip Type: HV Tube, Germanium, Op-Amp or LED to taste
All other parameters at default values
My experience:
-HV Tube feels lively and open
-Germanium has a satisfying bounce and growl
-Op-Amp has a sweet top end response
-LED is raw with plenty of bite on tap
