This cracks me up wicked...I remember Neil Young complaining about how “perfect” this digital world is that we live in...and he’s right...and nobody steps on perfect better than Chuck Berry. This is just the best example of what Neil was describing I’ve found:

Wow, his version of Things That I Used to Do is amazing, made me wish he played more straight blues. Piano was a little high in the mix for my taste though.

Yes sir.
I may be wrong, but when it comes to theatrics and messing with the guitar to get effect , it seems folks attribute this to later generations.
In reality though Chuck Berry was charting this new territory and was unafraid to “stick it” right in your face, so to speak.
It also isn’t lost on me of the racial impact in all this, and I get a big kick out out of watching the orderly audiences of this period
subjected to a man who was acting...extremely freely! How ironic! Well, ya gotta love Chuck Berry.

Yep...also important to note that Chuck Berry never had a band and never wanted to be chained to a script.
Someone, maybe they have, should collect stories from the backing musicians.
