Has anyone opened up their CLR or Q12/CF12 & can tell us what drivers are in there?

It would be more accurate to say that the HF horn assembly is sonically transparent in the pass band of the woofer, it doesn't "shape" anything.

Running cab and FOH setup strategies

As you describe it, either you are using the cab sims in AxeFX going through your onstage cab, or you don't use cab sim going through FOH - since both are receiving the same signal. Most choose to insert the FX loop block in a row, just before the cab sim block, this sends the "no cab sim"...

The best response and dispersion would be if you used the cab vertically, put coax + HF in top and coax - HF in the bottom, run it in mono. Depending on the cab design and drivers chosen, you may need to add/alter a port, if it's a sealed cab possibly reduce the internal volume. Eminence posts...

You can also use a different method. Rather than use AxeFX modes on your IA's, set them as General Midi. Assign the appropriate CC's for your FX, X/Y etc. You lose the red/green function, instead the lights are off/on which I prefer anyway. In this method, the on/off state of IA's is not "read"...

+1, this is generally the best practice. I don't have an RCF, but most of these higher end powered monitors will have on board limiting. I have also noticed with the AxeFX running DI to FRFR, it really makes a big difference in the tone to get the volume up to certain point. Not to play as loud...

It could be an issue, depending on the board preamps - they may not be able to handle the line level XLR signal, could be an impedance mismatch. If the board has 1/4" line inputs on the channels, try using 1/4" cable. Or the XLR cable could be bad, I've had one cause weird EQ response with a Mic...
