    Powered FRFR Cabinet for Bass?

You don't need fundametal at all on low E or B. Most of what you actually hear are the 2nd harmonic and up. Unless you are in like a reggae band where that big, billowy, bloomy phatness is your thing... but even then, you want the PA to handle that and your on-stage monitor to just let you play...

    Powered FRFR Cabinet for Bass?

Honestly, the K12 (especially if it's v2) is a pretty solid choice for bass. I use one for my projects (AX8 live mostly), going clear down to F# tuning without any real issues. It's not "FRFR", but, that's a tall ask for bass production considering the range involved.

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 2.05

Great choice, Cliff. If you're truly seeking opinions on what could be modeled, please have your people get with me and I'll 100% gladly get you some great options that would be "game changers" and put Fractal on the minds of bass players again. The Model T is certainly nice - and I'm hesitant...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 2.05

@FractalAudio , et. al. -- as a bass player, and one who has been (overly?) vocal about the lack of new shiny stuff for us lowend folks in Fractal products, I want to say a big thank you for the updated SVT model and the PortaFlex. I don't yet own a III so I can't take advantage of them, but...

Axe-Fx III Firmware 2.05 Public Beta

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I would love to have a model with the 6146B power tubes, but IME (having owned a late '69 with 6146's) there isn't a blow-me-away difference. Curious if you can clarify -- what channel was used (normal or bright) and where the ultra-hi and ultra-lo switches were...

    BassGearMag AX8 and Helix comparison

I'm not seeing how that's the case. You have to take a device to be able to have a great UX with an AX8. You don't with the Helix. It doesn't matter if it's a laptop or an iPad, it's one more thing to carry around, hook up, keep updated etc. And it's 3rd party too. Agree with all of this. I...

    BassGearMag AX8 and Helix comparison

Oh, sure, but that's not entirely different than using a laptop. It's still an external device, which I believe is the point Sean is trying to make. Put simply: Helix = super easy and "nice" to work with directly on the unit itself. Software on PC etc. not so wonderful, but workable. AX8 =...

    BassGearMag AX8 and Helix comparison

I felt it was pretty good overall, given the amount of time Sean got to spend with both. He got to borrow my AX8 for about 2 months, and had a loaner AX8 for a month-ish. So, enough time to start getting pretty comfortable, but not totally immersed (in either unit). Indeed. I don't know what...

    BassGearMag AX8 and Helix comparison

I mentioned this in a couple other threads, having been working in the background to make this happen. BassGearMag did a comparison (NOT a shootout, "versus", or "which is better") of the AX8 and Helix, you can read it here...

    The joy of tube amps

Ever move an SVT? The head alone weighs 85 lbs. :tonguewink: And yes, something is wrong with the amp. If you don't know what you're doing, take it to a tech... lots of power in tube amps that isn't to be messed with by amateurs. If you do know what you're doing though, should be simple-ish to...

Not much love for bass regarding amps and effects?

Indeed. It's one thing for something to be said, but actions are always the truth and speak volumes. It's all well and good the folks who want to come in and defend FAS and say bass is of no importance. That's fine. We get it, have been told that over and over again, and have been with the...

Not much love for bass regarding amps and effects?

Apparently all you need is a DI and a compressor for everything bass related ever. No great bass tone has had an amp, cab, or effect pedal added in, ever. If you can't do it with DI and a compressor, you obviously don't know what you're doing. No go away while we add yet another Friedman amp to...

Not much love for bass regarding amps and effects?

Yup. Basically just further confirms that bassists should grovel at Fractal's feet and just be happy with the crumbs off the table that we have gotten. Oh well. At least it saves me a bunch of money from wanting an Axe-Fx III, and with my annual Bass Convention this coming weekend, I can...

Not much love for bass regarding amps and effects?

Sorry, I should've been a touch more clear -- I don't mean the tuner (it does track down to F# fine), I mean when using the pitch block. Anything under E is flaky at best, and under C (B string, 2nd fret) does not track on any of my basses at all.

Not much love for bass regarding amps and effects?

How so? What has been done specifically for bass in the 3? I'm honestly curious and want to be convinced that is true. There's been at least a couple new guitar amps added to the 3, but, I haven't seen a single thing in the patch notes related to bass. Does it track low B now actually? F#? Does...
